AI GeneratedThis sports analysis focuses on critical coaching failures in the NFL, specifically targeting Dan Quinn and Nick Sirianni for situational malpractice. While praising the 49ers' dominance and Brock Purdy's MVP form, the commentary also covers the Packers' victory over the Bears, MLB ALCS predictions, college football rankings, and a devastating injury to the Rangers' Igor Shesterkin.
Magic Johnson's Twitter feed, and by the way,
not just legendary NBA player Magic Johnson,
co-owner of the Commanders.
His Twitter feed is usually a joke.
It's like the old AP Sports Wire, where he just reports sports scores.
He murdered Dan Quinn.
Magic Johnson hasn't said a bad word about anyone, ever.
We got to stop the clock.
We got to know his ozone situation.
We got to relay that as an offense.
It starts from everybody, top down.
Ultimately, you know, it's on me.
Leaving tonight with a tie feels like a loss.
Right call honestly, we can go clock it early.
And don't put ourselves in that spot,
and that's my responsibility, nobody else's.
I'm really just grateful that it was a tie.
That's the first tie that I've been a part of.
Was it a win? No.
Was it a loss? No.
It was a tie.
How does that make you feel?
I'm happy it wasn't a loss, and I'm sad it wasn't a win.
Dan Quinn. Dan Quinn. Dan Quinn.
That was the single worst example of in-game coaching
in the history of the National Football League.
That was coaching malpractice. That was unequivocally
a fireable offense.
I am genuinely stunned that Dan Quinn today is still employed after he
embarrassed himself and defied sports and math and logic.
What transpired at the end of overtime?
If you're a Commanders fan, you have to be sick.
The fact that they were in position
for a game-winning field goal, and they couldn't
even get the field goal unit on the field,
and they had plenty of time, didn't have to
get into field goal range.
They were already there.
That was the hottest of messes we've ever seen
in the history of the National Football
League.
coaching malpractice.
Dan Quinn should be relieved of his duties now. Dumb and dumber.
My goodness. And I think it's important here,
from the perspective of Washington and how this
ultimately transpired, to go back on a few things.
Number one, they had a 14-point lead.
They're up by 14, and they blew it.
So this was already a catastrophic mess.
the field was sloppy, weather was a factor,
it was rain, it was soggy, kickers are missing
kicks for the Giants left and right.
You had a 14-point lead. Jameis Winston in the first half
was not playing well at all, and you blew it.
And credit Winston, he was fantastic in the second
half. Credit Likely, credit neighbors.
You saw the Giants and Jameis Winston tie it up after they
He blew that 14-point lead with 1:43 to go.
And I think that's all important here.
And you go into overtime.
And you go into overtime,
and you see the Giants kicker, Dominic Zavada,
miss a 46-yard field goal.
He missed three field goals in this game.
Missed three field goals in this game.
This is all important.
So the Giants' defense then forces a three and out.
So the Giants get the ball. 67-yard drive.
And they're in field goal range. But I'm not
criticizing John Harbaugh at all.
I agreed with this every step of the way. They want to get a
little bit closer because in this slop fest,
in the rain, in the bad weather, Zavada can't make
a kick. So they want to try and get as close as possible.
Right coaching move from a Giants
perspective and Cam ScataBoo does the unthinkable, he fumbles
the football that can't happen, Scat
you gotta hold on to the damn ball that is literally your one job
and if you're a Giants
fan you're deflated can't believe
this is how it's gonna end kicker can't kick scat drops the ball
you can't cough it up in that spot you cannot cough it up
the Washington Commanders get the
ball they recover the fumble they march down
the field four plays to the Giants 26 field
goal they're there they don't have to work more after
that they just have to run the clock
end the game with an attempt at a game-winning
102 to go daniels goes out of bed they opt on
the next play to run the ball with White for a couple
of yards I'll tell you what I would have
done. First guess, watching the game.
I would have basically had Jayden Daniels take a knee. That's
the play. Then after he takes a knee,
I bleed the clock all the way down, spike it. That's what I
would do. 100% to stop the clock.
Utilize the clock as your friend. This way, you don't have
to have the field goal unit rush on.
Instead, you saw everything that happened with White,
or he ultimately runs for two, 55 seconds.
Play clock goes all the way down, down to four.
13 seconds left.
Daniels scrambles.
I couldn't believe it.
It was like they were just playing without a care in the world.
You can see this develop.
And if you're watching on the Fox broadcast,
Dan Quinn isn't yelling at anybody.
Dan Quinn isn't screaming.
There is no sense of urgency.
No one has any idea what the hell's going on.
Never seen anything like this.
So it goes all the way down,
and they can't run a final play and spike the ball to stop
the clock at the end to get the field goal unit on.
Embarrassing.
Absolutely embarrassing.
I do not blame Jaden Daniels at all.
He's listening to his coach.
By the way, they got rid of Cliff Kingsbury
as an offensive coordinator.
They bring in David Blough,
who's completely overmatched and should not be an offensive
coordinator in the National Football League,
what have I always said about Dan Quinn? I like Dan
Quinn. I don't think he's a great coach.
Great defensive coordinator? Sure, go ask an Atlanta
Falcon fan how he managed the biggest collapse in Super Bowl history.
He has never been great
with situational football, and this,
this is the worst example ever, ever in the history of the
National Football League. You didn't have to get into field goal range.
You were already in field
goal range. There is even a case,
I would not have done it, we could have had a conversation
about it. Could you have even attempted the field goal earlier?
Like you could, we could
have a rational discussion about it.
But I would have, again, first guess if I'm going
to say the coach should be fired.
Basically, take a knee with Daniels. Run the ball with
Daniels. It's wet. It's raining.
I'm not even putting the ball in the running back's hands.
Just take a knee, go down, then let the clock run down,
spike it, field goal unit on, kick
a field goal, Commanders win.
And remember, Dallas had lost, Philly had lost.
An opportunity for Washington to remind everyone,
we have Jaden Daniels, we're going to be just
fine.
Instead, this.
Man, if I'm a Washington Commanders fan,
or if I just like sports, or logic, or math,
I am sick to my stomach.
absolutely sick to my stomach.
Now there's officially an expiration date on Dan Quinn,
who I thought would have been fired anyway.
I've been outspoken on that. He can't survive this.
The only question is when. Today? Tomorrow?
When they lose next week? Thanksgiving? Black Monday
when the season ends? It's over for Dan Quinn.
Absolutely over. By the way, if you're a Giants
fan, I'm going to stress the positive here.
Seriously, you go on the road, the other coach
completely failed you know the weather was awful you had
this unbelievable comeback look I like the
kicker I'm willing to give him a pass
for now see what he does in the next game because the
conditions were so awful and they were so sloppy
and they were so not friendly to be a kicker in
the National Football League Saquon would bother
the hell out of me you have one job okay and
Saquon who at times is more interested
in doing backflips than playing football that would bother
me if I'm a Giants fan, okay?
Saquon has to be able to hold on to that ball. I have little
tolerance for Saquon and his act.
You want to act like you're a tough guy and a punk? You got
to protect the ball. That is literally your job in that spot.
But this is yet again another example
of John Harbaugh versus everyone else in the division.
I mean, look at Harbaugh versus
Schottenheimer, Harbaugh versus Sirianni, Harbaugh versus Quinn.
It's not even a fair fight in terms
of the Giants having clearly the best coach
in the division it's been a minute like a decade plus
since a Giants fan has been able to say that so if i'm
a Commanders fan i'm sick i'm livid i'm
disgusted another example why this franchise
is completely on the road to nowhere when Magic
Johnson is taking to Twitter
and he's murdering you that's all you need to know it's it's over
completely over. His Twitter feed is normally like
the Associated Press news wire, just
spitting out facts when Magic is saying it's unacceptable.
Please, that's awful. Absolutely
positively awful. We'll get back to the rest
of week five of the NFL in just a few, but
first, American League Championship Series.
It's underway in Tampa tonight between the
Guards and the Rays. Here's the prediction.
I think the Rays, behind Rasmussen, win tonight.
I think the Rays beat the Guards in six.
Give the Guards a ton of credit for coming back
in their series against Chicago
in the fashion that they did.
And I thought, originally, if you remember,
I picked the Guardians in five.
Then the White Sox took those first couple games,
and I wasn't quite sure that the Guards
were going to have the ability to come back.
The Rays, the way they play, it's just great for your sports soul.
Excellent pitching, great starters, solid relief.
Camionero's a stud.
They don't beat themselves.
I wish they would get rid of that dopey
drop, and they will at some point.
Kevin Cash is unbelievable.
So I'll take the Rays tonight, and I'll take Tampa in six games.
Coming up, the errors are beginning to pile up for Nick Sirianni.
Must have been a long flight back to London, sitting in a hot seat.
My Monday music on the Sunday that was in the NFL.
Max.
I didn't make the right decision, and I lost us that game.
And that's what I said to our guys.
and what hurts there is that, you know, the guys fought so hard
and then I don't make the decision that, you know,
that I should make it to the end of the game
and I cost us that game and I put that fully on me.
Nick Sirianni didn't learn from what Brian Schottenheimer
did a few weeks ago in Rio.
How do you do that?
Eight seconds to go and you kick off to Amir Abdullah?
The hell's going on here?
The game should have been over when the Eagles took
the lead 17-16 on Jake Elliott's 48-yard field goal.
Eight seconds to go.
How in the world do you kick off to Abdullah?
And I know that it got called back because of the penalty
and then Trotter gets kicked out of the game.
But he already returned one.
It didn't count earlier in the game.
And Abdullah's excellent on special teams.
Not to mention this guy, Cam Little.
The guy's unbelievable.
he's got a huge leg so why wouldn't you bomb it out
of the end zone why wouldn't you squib it
there were a thousand different things
to do but not this and of course Nick Sirianni should take
blame and honestly I felt for Jalen Hurts I thought
that Hurts played his ass off yesterday
with no offensive line no Barkley no Smith
and I thought he played well under the circumstance
Made a couple of big-time throws.
They deserve so much better.
The Eagles fans, the amazing fans of the Philadelphia Eagles deserve
so much better than this.
You know, Jacksonville, and you know
that I thought Jacksonville going into this week,
best team in the AFC, this wasn't even about the Jacksonville Jaguars.
No, not in any way, shape, or form.
This was about Philly melting down.
That's what this was about.
I mean, the long snapper for Jacksonville was hurt.
Liam Cohen coached a horrendous game.
There's not a Jags fan in America or London.
Who feels good about this win?
This is all about Philadelphia.
I mean, and by the way, Sirianni could have done a better job
bleeding the clock down on the drive
when Elliott kicked that field goal.
Amateur hour.
Repulsive.
I understand Nick Sirianni won a Super Bowl
and he should always be given credit for it.
That doesn't make him Don Shula.
That doesn't make him Tom Landry.
That doesn't make him Bill Belichick
or Andy Reid or Vince Lombardi or Jimmy Johnson.
Doesn't make him John Madden.
It makes him Doug Peterson.
He won a Super Bowl in Philadelphia,
but it doesn't mean there's a lifetime appointment.
This team is two and three.
They're on a road to nowhere.
And this is a game on ebb and flow.
Different head coach.
They should have won.
This team is so poorly coached.
Nick Sirianni should go door-to-door and apologize to every
single Philadelphia Eagles fan for the way he coached that game.
From embarrassment to excellence, many time zones away in Seattle,
the 49ers escaped with a win over the Seahawks in a truly amazing,
wild back-and-forth game that featured seven turnovers.
49ers are now 5-0, three of those wins against divisional opponents.
Brock Purdy, he's my MVP.
Brock-tober rolls on.
Listen, you look at what Brock Purdy was able to do.
This is why he's the MVP, right?
Look at the numbers.
Good.
Good numbers.
But it's what he did in the fourth quarter in Seattle.
That's why he's the MVP.
All those throws, all those plays to Mike Evans.
The way he stepped up in the pocket and was able to find a sliding.
Brandon Cooks, love that signing by John Lynch
with all the injuries that they had.
Brock Purdy played his best when it mattered the most.
This is why, on one of our first ever editions of Shine Time,
we said Mike Evans was going to make an impact like
no other newbie during the free agency period.
We said that.
You can check the YouTube page.
You're seeing it.
I also love when Mike Evans did the look
at the back of the jersey on Diggs.
Who are you, bro?
I loved every single second of that.
Brock Purdy is the MVP.
It's not even close.
And I got to give San Francisco a ton of credit for the calm.
They were the calmer team.
Seattle, for a team that just won
a championship, they were too frenzied.
I mean, where do you want to start?
You know, Sam Darnold, who I love, had a couple of picks.
JSN had the drop at the end.
I thought they got it right on the spot
with Cooper Cupp in the fourth quarter,
latter stages.
I thought Kevin Burkhardt, Tom Brady, Dean Blandino did a wonderful job
on the NFL on Fox, explaining why that was not going to be overturned
and why that was the right call.
The end of the first half was amateur hour.
I mean, you just need to take the knee, run out the clock.
And the fact that George Haliuni fumbled
and you saw the defensive tackle
from the 49ers strip him.
Big man touchdown, big man celebration,
seven free points at the end of the half, just take
a knee, but that's San Francisco 49er football,
they find a way, Gracian makes the unbelievable
play, and able to scoop and score,
and they started doing the dance, a little big man
dance, a little big man touchdown, love that,
5-0, 5-0, listen, Niners are the best team
in the NFL, not Kansas City, not Jacksonville,
not anyone else we're gonna throw into the
mix. Remember too, and we talked about this in preparation
for this game last week, San Francisco
last year, end of the regular season, lost in Seattle.
San Francisco got destroyed in Seattle
in the division round of the playoffs.
So the fact that they were able to win this game like this,
that tells you everything.
And they're still dealing with all these injuries, all this
adversity, and they're 5-0.
That's coaching, that's Purdy, that's McCaffrey, that's Kittle,
that's Trent Williams, that's Trent Warner,
that's leadership, that's being buttoned up,
that's next man up, here's the veteran Brandon Cooks,
he comes in, sliding catch back in the
end zone. The San Francisco 49ers, as we speak right now,
are unequivocally the best team in
the NFL. And the season does not end today,
but if it did, Brock Purdy is the MVP. And I don't
even think it's close. By the way,
Seattle made a conscious choice to let Kenneth Walker go and
free agency. Now, they drafted Price.
He's hurt. They knew that Charbonnet was
going to take him a minute to get back from a major
injury that he suffered in the postseason.
Listen, hey, Miss
Kenneth Walker, there is no question about it.
And we talked about that in real time. I knew they
weren't going to pay him. I didn't mean
I liked it from a Seattle Seahawks
perspective. That was a little
too sloppy from a Seahawks standpoint
with the interceptions by
Darnold, the fumble at the end of the half,
JSN drop. You expect
better from a Mike McDonald coach team.
which really underscores just how buttoned up
and how strong the 49ers and Kyle Shanahan and
my guy Brock Purdy were yesterday.
The Green Bay Packers put the smackdown on the Chicago
Bears yesterday at Lambeau.
I think Jordan Love had the best game of his career, joining Ben
Roethlisberger as one of only two players
with five completions of 30-plus air yards a single
game since ESPN began tracking the metric back in 2006.
And listen, I think you have to first
and foremost start by praising the Packers, because Love was amazing.
Numbers on the screen
right there, phenomenal. Didn't make dumb throws.
His deep ball had precision. Utilized both
receivers brilliantly.
Watson, six catches, 143 yards, a couple touchdowns. They had a great
rapport the golden rapport Matthew Golden
was terrific six catches 123 yards the defense was
flying around and this mattered to Matt LaFleur
and I've always defended Matt LaFleur I'm not a
Brian Gutekunst guy I'm not a Jordan Love guy I thought Love was fabulous
and phenomenal in the
ball game yesterday Matt LaFleur though is a great coach
and he had his team ready they're playing at
home they they've already outkicked my expectations
for wins in the first five weeks I gotta give
to give LaFleur all the credit in the world.
Jonathan Gannon had the defense flying around.
I mean, they didn't just win.
They murdered the Bears, destroyed the Bears, suffocated the Bears.
And Ben Johnson takes a hit, and I love Ben Johnson.
Ben Johnson, Matt LaFleur hate each other,
and we know what happened at the introductory press conference.
Ben Johnson likes beating Matt LaFleur a couple times a year,
and then he did it last year, regular
season and then in the postseason.
I mean, that handshake was frosty.
LaFleur kept running it up.
Good for him.
Ben Johnson's ridiculously cocky and arrogant,
but backs it up, and his team backs it up.
Listen, credit the Packers.
Tyson Bagent was awful.
Absolutely awful.
They didn't have Menungai.
The offensive line was terrible.
The lowest yards per play in Ben Johnson's career,
either as a head coach or as an offensive
play caller.
That's all you need to know.
31-7.
That was an example of getting punked.
They got punched out.
That was a terrific performance by the Green Bay Packers.
You can do nothing here but stress the positive.
Now, doesn't mean I'm changing my tune
on what the Bears are going to look like
when Caleb Williams comes back.
Doesn't mean I'm changing my tune big picture on Green Bay.
But that result got my attention.
And I thought even with the backup quarterback,
Chicago was going to win that game
and win it by 7 to 10 points.
And absolutely, for a team in the Packers
that was ripe to be knocked out,
absolutely deliver a death blow.
Instead, it was the exact opposite.
If you're a fan of the Green Bay Packers, man, enjoy this one.
That was a drubbing against your hated rival.
Excellent stuff from Jordan Love and Matt LaFleur.
More great quarterback play was on display at Foxborough,
where Drake May dominated the Vegas Raiders 45-17.
I mean, Brandon Mendoza made his NFL debut in garbage time.
After Kirk Cousins turned back into a pumpkin.
But the story is Drake May.
And listen, when you look at Drake May, and it needs to be stressed,
five total touchdowns yesterday, zero interceptions, zero turnovers.
I thought last week against Buffalo,
the Bills gave Drake May life.
I did not say he was back.
Now, Drake May is back.
And here's the thing, because you watch the show,
I read the YouTube comments,
I read all the Instagram comments, the X comments, all the comments.
I love Drake May.
I voted Drake May number two on my list for league MVP last year.
And that's the highest compliment.
Stafford won, Drake May too.
On shine time, in the summertime,
even after Drake May was awful in all four playoff games last year.
All four.
I went into the year and said for 23-26,
he's the seventh best quarterback in the NFL.
ahead of Caleb Williams, ahead of Kyler Murray,
head of my guy Brock Purdy.
I love Drake May.
Drake May, the first three weeks, played like Zach Wilson.
Statistically, eyeball test, one touchdown,
seven turnovers, first three weeks.
The Buffalo game, Buffalo let him off the hook.
threw that scampering touchdown, one-handed grab.
Efton Chisholm, if that's even a real person,
this week against the Raiders.
Team that was piping hot, very confident.
Max Crosby and company could do some damage.
That's the Drake May's back game.
Now, Drake May is back to being that great quarterback,
that reliable quarterback.
Watching that entire game yesterday,
you could see the swagger's back, the confidence is back,
the zip on the fastball's back, you know,
the way he was able to distribute the ball.
And I want to stress again, no A.J. Brown.
So, give Drake May all the credit in the world.
That was a monster deal if you're a fan of the New England Patriots.
Jim Harbaugh is at a loss, or five to be exact,
after falling to the Broncos at home on Sunday.
What is the message that works, you know,
that kind of gets through, or is there one?
Yeah, I don't know what that message is.
Jim Harbaugh couldn't answer questions at the press conference.
Jim Harbaugh is an amazing coach.
We can talk about what he did in college, Stanford.
We can talk about how he resurrected the 49ers.
who's amazing. We can talk about winning championship
at Michigan. We can talk about
the first couple of years he was in LA with the Chargers.
They're now 0-5. And when you look at
the nuggets of futility here for the Chargers
and what transpired yesterday, Bo Nix was awful.
Sean Payton's offense was awful.
And Harbaugh screwed everything up. They were up 17-10,
10-33 remaining. And Harbaugh inexplicably opted
to go for it on fourth and one from his own 41.
Why wouldn't you punt?
The Chargers defense was playing well. The Broncos offense,
even Sean Payton back on the plays, was broken.
And look at the nuggets of futility on the screen
for Justin Herbert.
Fifth straight game with a fourth quarter turnover. I mean,
It's embarrassing.
And look, we can talk about the injuries on the offensive line,
and Ian Eagle and Ross Tucker did
a brilliant job on this on the NFL and CBS.
You know, they got four rookies playing.
This game was on Harbaugh.
And the fact that they're the first team in the history of the league
to start 0-5 after consecutive years of winning 11 or more games,
that's on Harbaugh.
We can rip Herbert. We do.
We can rip Mike McDaniel. We do.
We can rip the defense, the injuries.
We can praise the competition.
This specific game was on Harbaugh.
What a mess.
What a disaster.
The Chargers had a chance to save face and kind of save the season.
Now, it's over.
The Texans got their first win of the season,
as predicted here on Shine Time.
And Domenico Ryans had some news to share after the game.
You guys wanted to know, huh?
Yes.
All right.
We traded for Marvin Harrison.
See ya.
Noted NFL insider, Domenico Ryan.
So, this is one of those trades where you kind
of need a second to really break this one down.
First of all, I think the Houston Texans, by winning that game,
are officially back in the conversation for everybody.
Let's just throw that out there.
I know it's the Titans.
The Titans are atrocious.
But I expect the Texans to play winning football.
When the Texans lose, I'm always surprised.
They have great players on defense, and Domenico Ryan's
a fabulous coach, took over the play-calling duties once again.
They go to Nashville, beat their rivals, destroy them,
and then they make this trade for Marvin Harrison Jr.
I feel compelled to say this.
The Cardinals made an excellent trade.
Marvin Harrison Jr., they took him fourth overall.
That was a draft loaded with great players.
Malik Neighbors was in it.
I talked to Monty Austin for it,
their general manager on my SiriusXM radio show, right after.
He thought about other players,
thought briefly about trading down, phone lines burning up.
Marvin Harrison, he had graded as an A++.
Like it was a no-brainer selection, and I agreed with him.
Harrison has been an abject failure, a disaster.
He has done nothing.
For the Texans, I get it.
They give up a second-round pick.
By the way, they're a team that's 1-4, so for Arizona, you're thinking,
this could at least be, worst-case scenario, middle?
of the second round. You could
also use that to trade up in the draft. You're going to get
probably a top three, four pick in the draft.
Maybe you're in position to get your quarterback.
Maybe you could trade up to one and get Jeremiah Smith,
ironically enough, to replace Marvin
Harrison. We have plenty of time
to do that from an Arizona perspective. The fact that they got a
two is miraculous because Marvin Harrison has done nothing,
nothing in two and a half years in the
NFL not a thing but if you're Houston I get it
because when he was in college who was his
quarterback throwing him the ball brilliantly CJ Stroud
who's now the Texans quarterback
obvious so CJ Stroud you don't have
to wonder aloud about will he have chemistry with Marvin
Harrison Jr we know it we've seen it you're making
this trade for the Ohio State version
not the Arizona Cardinal
and listen if you're Arizona the trade makes sense because you're
trading an all-time boss
and you got a second round pick sometimes you just know you know
Trey Lance years ago Niners gave up everything all
these first round picks to go up and get
him the third overall pick they had to deal him
for a day three pick fourth round pick to the
Dallas Cowboys we've seen you know the Jets knew
with Zach Wilson it was time to go we got to get
this guy the hell off the team you know selling low
on Marvin Harrison Jr. would have never made
sense they got a second round pick I think he's going
to be great for Houston I do by the way
he never had an agent i know his dad is a hall
of famer you know very weird that that was the case
he just signed Todd France from Athletes First
is one of the best in the business represents
Dak Prescott as an example i think that that's
a smart move in terms of maturity here and finding
someone else to handle your business so you could focus
and put the the blinders on and solely deal
with ball i think Stroud is going to be great
for him i think he's going to be great for stroud
Domenico Ryan's a special coach, maximizes people, maximizes players.
Domenico's an unbelievable human, great for X's and O's.
You know, players love playing for him.
So I think this is going to work out incredibly well.
We'll see the level, ultimately,
and it's going to have to make an immediate impact, of course.
But I thought this was a truly strong deal by both teams.
And I'm so into it from a Texans standpoint
because of the Stroud-Harrison Jr. Ohio State connection.
The Jets got back in the win column against
the Red Hot Browns on Sunday at rain-soaked MetLife Stadium.
The story of the game for New York
was the dominance of rookie David Parley,
who sacked Deshaun Watson three times, and he was everywhere.
He was a tackling machine, hit the quarterback nonstop,
And listen, with all the back and forth,
Reese versus Bailey, Bailey versus Reese,
there are a lot of smart people, myself included,
who had Reese ranked higher for the NFL draft
and thought the Jets should have picked Reese.
Reese for the Giants was off to this unbelievable start,
and they needed this kind of performance,
and Bailey really took over the game.
I just love that the Jets won, how the Jets won.
When Watson was able to hit Boston on that bomb to take the lead,
it was one of those, and you just said,
maybe everything's, you know, coming up Cleveland Browns,
and this is just a charmed football team.
The fact that they were able to win,
the fact that they were able to persevere,
the fact that Geno Smith couldn't get enough,
the Garrett Wilson spin for the touchdown,
give Aaron Glenn much maligned a lot of credit
but really I can't stop thinking about Bailey
because I think if you're a Jets fan you were waiting for him to flash
and when I say flash
take over a game dominate
and the Browns came in as a three-one team you know they are what they
are Jets were favored in Vegas I picked Cleveland I
was wrong thrilled to be wrong thrilled how the
Jets won, that they won, and most
especially, Bailey played
like the number two pick in the draft.
That's exactly what you needed to see
if you're a Jets fan.
The Ravens, without Lamar Jackson, came back
with the Falcons in overtime on Sunday Night Football.
The win was a surprise to many, but
not Derrick Henry.
I do want to say, I saw a post on Instagram
about my son.
A lot of y'all
picking us to win, too.
You were one of them.
I can't wait for this moment.
I don't know if I've seen it.
I'm going to go back and look because I saved it, man.
Yeah.
Yeah, I love that.
I mean, here it is, right?
The King, future Hall of Famer,
and he's still reading the Baltimore Sun.
He's still looking at who the writers are picking
to win on the Baltimore Sun Instagram.
And everyone was picking Atlanta.
I picked Atlanta.
By the way, the game, the flow, all favored Atlanta.
How about this?
NFL teams had won the last 581 games up by eight
or more points in the final minute.
I expected the Falcons to hold on and win.
Falcons' first loss up eight
or more points in the final minute since they blew it to
the Patriots in the worst Super Bowl collapse we've ever seen.
I got to do nothing here but give Baltimore credit,
and when you look at what Snoop was
able to do as a backup quarterback, he's so good.
Huntley is just amazing.
I give him so much credit in terms of always being ready.
He's a winning ball player.
And the way they were able to persevere.
Then they go into overtime and they drain the clock.
The whole thing was incredible.
Hamilton is a special player on defense.
And honestly, it was a bad loss by the Falcons.
They played with their food a little too much.
Very disappointed in Atlanta, who I thought,
and remember, I picked them against Green Bay to win.
Picked them against New Orleans to win.
I thought they could and should and would win this game.
You know, Penix to Jake Matthews, the tackle,
he didn't catch the ball, left a lot of points on the field,
and they messed around and they found out.
Then Penix got dinged at the end of regulation, so of course Tua had
to come in, throw an interception to seal the game.
Why would you even sign Tua Tagovailoa
in the first place? We've been over this.
This gutty, gritty, noteworthy loss for,
gutty, gritty win for the Baltimore Ravens.
Noteworthy loss for the Atlanta Falcons.
I think it speaks volumes about the inner fortitude here in Baltimore.
Very disappointed from an Atlanta Falcons perspective that they lost
and how this game unfolded.
The New York Rangers got some terrible
news, but it's their season over.
Plus, we discussed the college football week
in our Monday Night Football Pick, next on Showtime.
Rangers goalie Igor Shesterkin suffered
a season-ending right knee injury on Friday,
dashing all the hopes of the Blue Shirts fans after
the team had gotten off to such a strong start.
When I saw this news and Molly Walker from the Post broke this story,
honestly, I was crushed.
Absolutely crushed.
Not that I thought the Rangers were going
to sustain this unbelievable pace,
but it was all there for the Blue Shirts
to take a monster step forward this year.
and make the playoffs, and Shesterkin is so great.
And when you have a goalie like that that inspires so much confidence,
everything else can fall into place.
And look, I know the Venn diagram for sports fandom in New York
can go in a lot of different ways.
But for those that are fans of the Knicks,
the Rangers, the Giants, and the Yankees,
which is a popular foursome based upon geography for a lot of people
and who they root for.
I know a lot of people are wondering aloud if maybe someone
who's a long-suffering Knicks fan
made a deal with the devil, just give me one,
and then you can have the Yankees.
And Aaron Judge misses 100 games.
You can have the Giants for the year
and Jackson darts after the Dallas game.
He's done for the year.
Brian Burns, best player on the team, is done for the year.
I don't know.
Then I saw Shesterkin.
You know, I don't usually believe in these kind of things.
But all of a sudden, you have Judge, Burns, Darks.
You have Shesterkin.
I'm not saying it's about a higher power.
It's about college football.
Jeremiah Smith!
Heisman!
It's over!
Another two-touchdown game on Saturday
in Ohio State's destruction over Maryland in Columbus.
And I'll tell you, these numbers, I mean,
it tells you everything you need to know.
and you look at the Heisman odds, we're calling it.
We're calling it.
We've talked about Smith as the Heisman Trophy winner forever.
We talked to Josh Pates about this with ESPN.
We've joined this preseason.
You take a look at what the odds say
and what Jeremiah Smith brings to the table.
Look at how favored he is in Vegas.
I mean, it's crazy.
He is running away with the odds.
You see him right here.
you understand that Jeremiah Smith at this stage there's
not a quarterback who can catch him
there's no other receiver who's in the mix i mean
and i love mensa and he's been accurate
and Notre Dame there's always a fun cool bias
when it comes to awards i think chambliss is the best
quarterback in college football stockton had
a monster win we'll get to that in a second
minus 220 in the middle of october see you
in new york jeremiah smith congrats on winning the
that Texas loss to Oklahoma was a genuine stunner
I still can't believe it happened I think Mateer
stinks I thought Texas was playing phenomenal ball
and Arch Manning just absolutely embarrassed
himself in the fourth quarter we're
at a stage right now we have to have the conversation
about Arch Manning
and he needs to go back to school I love his talent I love his upside I
of the Manning family, how could you rationalize that he's ready to go?
Ready to be, forget the number one overall pick,
a top ten pick, a first round pick.
I mean, these two interceptions were awful.
There's no other word choice.
Then you factor in prior games, he was awful in the Tennessee game.
I mean, if I'm advising Arch, go back to college.
I want him to be the next great Manning of the NFL.
There's a brutal loss for Texas.
Terrible job by Sarr.
I mean, Mateer has been awful at quarterback for Oklahoma.
He was terrible against Texas last year.
He had a miserable season this year.
This is a dreadful loss for Texas.
So Texas was number one.
Now it's Georgia.
And I love what we saw.
And they're the new number one in the AP Top 25 poll.
How about the way Gunnar Stockton played when it mattered the most?
And this was a terrific game, terrific battle.
Absolutely loved it.
And I think Kirby Smart deserves
so much credit for the way that he had his team ready.
This was a terrific quarterback battle, terrific coaching battle.
And we talked about Georgia as a team to make
the college football playoffs before the season started.
Georgia is terrific.
Gunnar Stockton, man, if you want to win games,
this is the guy you want as your quarterback.
I just love watching him play.
I'm obsessed.
I can't get enough.
And the toughness of this Georgia team, terrific game.
You know, Alabama's quarterback is awesome,
but it's not even up for debate.
And I watched this entire game.
In terms of ebb and flow, the better team, the more buttoned-up team,
the better defense, the better quarterback.
And we said this last week.
Give me Georgia.
And I think Georgia's going to hold
on to that number one spot for a while.
But wait, there's more.
The Shine Time Super Bowl
for Monday Night Football tonight.
with the Rams and the Bills and friend of the show, Joe Buck.
Appreciate all the nice words, read all the comments here on YouTube,
read all of them on Instagram at Adam Schein, on X at Adam Schein,
about how great the Joe Buck spot was.
He's going to be calling the game with the great Troy Aikman,
Monday Night Football on ESPN.
And this was my pick for the Super Bowl.
Now, no longer are either one of these teams favorites
in their respective conferences like they were before the season.
I'm still not backing off this as a Super Bowl preview.
But obviously, you know, neither one would
be considered the team to beat in their respective
conferences as we stand right now.
I think the game's going to be terrific.
I think that you're going to see a lot of points.
I have the Rams winning 38-35,
which means I'm going to grab the points with the Bills.
Plus three and a half.
I'm gonna take Buffalo with the points Sean McVay Matthew Stafford
Puka Nacua with the win, it's a show
if you missed any portion of the show just do what I do
We watch the show over and over and over again.
