Video Summary
AI GeneratedJoe and Tosh, accompanied by Wolfie the dog, take their first canoe trip of the season on the lower Mississauga River. The journey involves testing new gear, navigating unpredictable dam-controlled water levels, and managing the challenges of early spring weather, ultimately concluding with a successful but strenuous return to their vehicles.
Hey folks, how you doing? Joe here. I'm with Wolfie.
We're about to go meet up with Tosh
and we're going to do our first canoe trip of the season.
Tosh was kind enough to stop by Swift on his way here
and grab me a boat, a new canoe.
Swift was gracious enough to give me a canoe at cost.
Not a Swift canoe.
They don't offer really whitewater boats so I got a different brand
and they sell it and they were gracious enough to give it to me.
so I'm really brand loyal
to Swift I want everybody to know that so Swift
Swift Swift they just don't make
the exact what I wanted but they hooked it
up with that one anyways I do want
to take a second to say I really wish
Cooper was still around Tasha's dog
is no longer with us he was a great dog I
really liked him and the whole plan was to get Wolfie
and Cooper together and
Cooper to teach Wolfie how to be a good boy
but rip rip Cooper great dog and
they go too young.
There she is.
Young bitch.
How's it going buddy? Good.
Good to see you. Look at that green beauty up there.
Big old booger.
Offsets that horrible red.
We're
shallow.
We're not coming down this far though.
Just
waiting
on Joe.
No we go up a little tiny bit more if we can.
It's pretty shallow right there. It's very shallow.
It's very shallow Tosh.
I want to see if we can put in here. We've got to find a spot for the
truck too
But it deepens up right there. You can see
You can put it in that little pool and then off you go
Prospector all loaded up. I'm gonna have
to pull it down that incline of snow
It's a little deep.
It's a little deep boy.
There you go.
Yeah, it's so hot
Anyways, we gotta get the the boats down here?
We gotta get the boats down here
you can see how deep it is like this is no joke up
to my knees but it's this way buddy come come
i gotta get him down here and tie it up
because even on the way here we stopped for him to go to
the bathroom and he didn't want to come back for quite some time
which is very annoying so we're
gonna get him down here tie him up and that way
and get the boats down without too much problems
Hopefully okay, we made it to the river.
That was an ordeal. There's the bridge
Well, he's tied
up down there.
I'm calm
and relaxed.
It's a good
thing about
these t4
max boats
Just like dirt just like
Royal Lux. They're very
durable. I am sweating. Yo
Horrible never even seen
those boats never even seen
the water seen some snow,
you know seen some snow
That's fine.
That's fine, too
As soon as
we get away,
he can run
next to the
canoe on
the shore
for all
I care.
This
up?
Yeah, I did the same thing.
15th-ish.
None of the lakes are open, but as you can see,
first canoe trip of the year.
Let this guy run and burn off some energy
because he's in the car for a couple hours
this morning and then right into the canoe.
So let's let him go and he'll run across the shore
and hopefully stay with us, come back
when he's ready.
Okay, good boy, go!
Good boy!
Good!
Go on!
Good boy!
eat all the goose poop now
well what a good boy he
jumped back in when we came
to this bay he came out
of like room to run you can
go go good boy good boy not
stuck you got yourself there you know
okay I'll come get you you just go to
shore from there oh I see it's too deep you don't want
to go into cold water
probably got there from there
and that was stuck I'll get you I got you there
whiny boy. I can't talk to the broke boy.
Hup, hup, hup, hup! Yep, yep! Good boy!
Like Titanic.
Hamming speed!
What's the other one? What's the Canadian one?
The uh...
Oh snap.
What is the Canadian one that went down in Superior?
What was it?
Edmund Fitzgerald.
Edmund Fitzgerald. It was American?
Yeah.
My whole life is a lie.
We've got
a bald eagle
circling here.
Everybody's
interested.
He sat
down,
bud.
Hope
he's
being
a
good
boy.
It's
almost...
Yeah, yeah, I can see ya.
i wonder this looks like
a plateau up here like
there's some maybe it's
a nothing good i'm just
looking for a spot to camp tonight it's about four
o'clock we're away from all the highways
and roads and trails and everything we're
in this like secluded spot the most uh remote spot on the
river at least this section of it
so looking for a spot we can camp and wolf can run around
how's that look oh it
is just an island
you want to go check
it out it's pretty
snowy it's uh it's
super hot we pulled up to a uh a potential camp spot there's
no campsites along the river here
we're gonna make our own but this is the most flat
we could find we have to get up away from the river
a little bit as well because it's damn controlled it's good
because wolfie can swim in here it's
pretty open there's icebergs floating by there's
a little inflow here we're gonna go up on the bank
and clean out some trees and stuff and make a flat spot
and camp comfortably wolfie what are
you eating bro eating dude very hot
no bugs there's only a couple days like this a year
we
tested
out a new
tent
on this
trip I
really
like the
company
NorTent
you've
seen me
use a
couple of their different tents the Koi or the Koi
and the Gam I got a brand new one this trip
it's just a one man but it has a side entrance with a big vestibule
and a lot of room for Wolfie
this is the tent here we'll get it set up together
it's a different style tent than i've ever had
before has one pole some pegs
and then two integrated poles little ones that
stay attached to it that's a little bit
for me to get used to I've only set this
up once just in the backyard to test it out
in not Trujillo fashion just one
spot for the pole to go in as opposed
to other tents where you have to cross them
over just one I believe there is a secondary pole you can buy for extra
stability
but I'm sure I'm not going to need it.
We've got our one side staked down
I'm gonna go over to the other side do the same.
How do you like blowing up that mat?
The ground is frozen underneath a little bit of leaf litter here
So I have to pound it in with the axe
which I don't normally have to do ever
You always see that in like old-school
Camping things using the axe
to pound stakes in which I've
never really had to do this side
It goes in easily and of course
because I said that this side goes in nice and easy with no
hounding
required.
I thought you
were cooking
dinner. Alright
so this is
called the Vern 1. It's got a little bit
of wire on here where you can kind of
pop out the vent or push it in.
It's got tie outs everywhere. Let's get it open and see.
There's an inner tent and outer tent.
The pull rings are glow-in-the-dark. I've
actually got to put a stake right here.
Oh I'll do that right now. I really like
the the door keepers on this it's got a cinch
so a lot of times when you put the
door in or roll it up and put it on like
this it gets loose after a while but
with this one cinch it
right down it stays
tight and a spider
on me the other
day so tapers at the ends it's
also got ventilation that you can open up at the
ends it's got enough room in here for me
and Wolfie and I can actually take this
inner tent right out and it'll be much bigger
but there's no point because bugs
bug season is right around the corner get
this up even more you can open up
second door. Is there enough room for me
to get in if it starts raining? There's
not even enough room if I wasn't in there.
No, meant for grown-ass Toshi guys.
It's nice,
I like the double vented door.
That's a huge vestibule.
Huge vestibule.
Yes, it's just a one-man inside,
but you got all this extra room for your gear,
whatever, what have you.
You know, if you ever go camping and you have stuff, just
put it there there's an extra pull that you can feel
my arm now dude oh i can see it it's burnt
i must be burnt too that's
more so was on that side
that's my good boy i'm
sitting here shooting
the breeze for i don't know half an hour at least he
was gone for quite a bit and now he's just
KO'd which is so awesome to see the uh letting them run
on the side of the shore oh did you
Did you just split your pants?
Nope, I had gum on my lap,
and then it must have went down into my crotchal areas,
and now I've got
a sticky crotch.
Anyway.
So as I was saying.
Back to the, yeah.
Having him run around on the shore there was awesome.
He really enjoyed it.
I liked seeing him there,
and burned a bunch
of his energy out,
the rest of the gum out of my crotch now.
Comfortable in there, bud?
Went in there on his own.
Yeah, the tent looks so wide, but it's all vestibule.
There, no, there's not, no.
So the tent kind of sticks out in that part
That's right.
Okay.
Still just chilling out, eh?
Oh, Tasha's taking a little nap.
I'm just out paddling across the shore from our camp.
You can see our camp over there.
And Wolfie is content to lay in the tent, so all is well.
I'm just going to take a couple casts.
There's some rapids down there I can hear.
Oh, it's an inflow.
Let's go fish at the inflow.
There's another river coming in.
Go check that out.
It's such a beautiful little river here.
We're on the lower half of the Mississauga.
Very light
lure casting
into the wind
here. Yeah,
it's super
shallow.
That's a lot of
water coming
in here
I'll go back. I see Tasha's got up.
He's starting to collect some firewood. So we'll go back and help him
Did
ya?
He's
proud,
white
as can
be. Oh
yeah, he
gives
you his
butt.
That's
what he
does.
Oh, you're right.
Tasha's night
to cook supper tonight,
and he's promised
me something fun.
What did you call it?
We are making walking tacos.
That's right.
Walking tacos.
Talking walkos?
A
little
bit,
then
you
don't
get as
many.
And I find it's easiest to split the bag this way.
Okay.
Which way?
You don't want them crushed, though.
No, just...
Broken up.
Broken up a little bit.
A little smaller so they're not full-sized.
Just rocket science for Joe.
Stay back, buddy.
Stay back, buddy.
We go with a generous
serving of beef,
and we've got lettuce
in there,
a little bit of
greenery.
How much is generous?
Take whatever you want.
There's only two bags.
Yes, green onions lettuce
mixing it as you go
or what I usually just kind
of let it fall in
Cheese
cheese
Pico that pico de gallo with onions
Tomatoes and some kind of spice thing
of that in there. You already got
your own you get a scoop of guac on top
Hold this up.
I should go
get something
Never had guacamole in my life
Really?
Yeah, yeah, it is right
and I don't think that I've ever had sour cream
I don't know try a dollop dollop of the creme de la creme.
Well, thanks, man
This is gonna be amazing.
Do you close it up for a while? Or is it good to go?
Good to go. Good to go. Good to go Joe.
Mm-hmm. We're around there
Get some some of the chips and the beef
and let's throw a go. Oh boy. Pretty good eh?
Yeah,
let's sit down
and enjoy
this. Talking
Wacos. Haha.
Good boy
He's trotting down there like he has a purpose,
but he not much going on. Well, what do you think?
What do you think about today?
It was a good day
Got the pro 15 over here just chillin very happy
with that canoe today
Very maneuverable and paddleable with the double blade.
It's made of T4 max. So she's durable, you know
icebergs floating by just just
the tip of the iceberg
you know there he is good
boy oh you guys leaving?
Is that food you got?
There's not anything to eat, I'm starving
I'm starving here
Oh yeah there is a beef jerky in there
But it's not for you
It's
not for you
Wolfie Von Fluffypants
This is Von Flufferbottom
Fluffernutter
it's just ice bud and we're about to go in the tent
so maybe get out of the
water, he can sleep with you in your cowboy
roll if you want, it's getting away
Wolfie, he's in no hurry to get out of
that
water
but
it's
all
hardwood
in
there
really
really
nice
I
imagine
there probably will be still some snow dude coming
in today but like I I went the
wrong way down that portage trail like there
was like I didn't know which way
to go, it was like tree down, trees everywhere so I end up going to make
big leg turn or whatever, dude, it was up to my hips.
There were a few spots I went through,
I was up to mine, I sunk right down,
trying to get my other legs sprawled out across the snow.
Yeah, exactly.
Friggin' almost waist deep.
I had no shirt on, hip deep snow.
All right, it's bedtime,
we got Wolfie in here already.
All right, folks, we'll get with you in the morning.
I'm sure we're gonna have a good night's sleep.
I'm pretty tired.
I got a full day of paddling again tomorrow,
so back with you then.
Wish me luck.
Hopefully Wolfie doesn't rip a hole through this tent
like he did with
my one last fall.
Good
night,
buddy.
This way, here, right here, go on.
Yes, yes,
good
boy.
How you doing?
This is a great reason for why you don't camp
along the water line on a dam-controlled river.
We woke up this morning
to our fire pit is now submerged
merged, and the frying pan we left here
is now in four inches of water.
I'm kind of surprised the spatula's just chilling.
Yeah.
That's wild.
So we were sitting here, you can see the circle right there,
that's where our fire pit was
last night, and we were at least three feet from,
four feet from the water.
Oh, plenty, we had tons of room to walk around in.
Oh man, well.
So the water came up significantly in the night.
I guess I'm reaching in the water here.
Well, if you'd grab that pan for me, bud.
I was camped up high on the bank,
but we tied our boats up, pulled them up.
Nice. It's like ice.
Because they open the dam up a little more
or if that's just more melt water.
Put
a
patch
over
that.
Rub nuts, bitch.
Stay
calm.
Dog,
no.
I enjoyed sleeping in this tent.
There's the flat part here and then the part that
Vs out at the back and Wolfie was able to lay it in that V part
and be completely next to me.
I thought he was gonna have to sleep at my feet,
which he didn't want to do and I'm happy that he didn't have to do.
All is well. I got this blanket for him, which I shouldn't have brought
he doesn't need it and it is completely covered in wolf hair now
We're gonna break down camp and get on the river
We've got more to paddle today than we did yesterday
To get to the spot where we left one of the trucks
and we want to take it easy nice leisurely paddle
Happy
with it.
Always
pleased
with
North Tent One
pole system
Like I said, you can buy a secondary pole
to put going crossways if you need it
But I don't live in the tundra in the highlands in the moors
or the barren land
You know probably prefer
You know what it means, time to go, time to go
super happy with how he's being on this trip
I think he's enjoying himself.
He slept like a king yesterday all day since we got here
at like four o'clock and he slept all night long,
which I was kind of concerned about but he ran like five
five clicks up along the shore, back and forth.
Full tilt at some points.
Hey bud, one fluffy butt,
one fluffy butt.
Tosh already doused the fire, we're good to go.
It doesn't look like the water rose up too much
since I
put that
stick in
there, no.
Talk about a stable
boat, hey good boy,
hey good boy.
All right, we'll just take it easy.
Yeah, that's a good dog, that's a good dog.
Take it easy
for a bit.
Another beauty day on the water, eh bud?
Oh, that's my good boy.
We're gonna do some good adventures this year.
promise hey you drove you love
it you drove 14 hours to get
to me rambling just call me a rambling
man oh that's a good shot good boys good boys now
we're coming up on this longer stretch of moving
water here nothing crazy
but uh it's probably gonna be the longest stretch we were gonna hit

you run for a minute
eh you're a good boy we hit another uh patch of rapids
or actually two more since i filmed
and he did really well he doesn't like them all that much
but he's not freaking out so that's
good good boy go yep good boy all right i'll see
you later bud tell everybody you're a good boy
you're being good such a cool
time of year to be out here
and then transition period
of the
seasons yesterday no shirt sunburn last night
my water bottle froze there's freaking snow
everywhere a little comfortable in t-shirts it's great
no bugs fish aren't biting but i haven't
really cast more than three or four times so i
can't say much there you go oh yeah just a little
ripple just a little ripple there wolfie stay good
boy look at his hocks spread across his legs are
splayed out good dog oh look
at the big cliff nice
beautiful beauty we just
noticed this nice little
sand beach there's some footprints on it some probably wolf
and pretty flat up in the back
there and then not only that but then you'd have
a view of this big rock and the sound of the rapids
nice camp if i come back i might try to aim
for that to sleep at i probably will come back every
every spring either this or the little white river
and because i can get into these way before the uh
the lakes
are open obviously you
stay okay bud you stay
i can't see dude yeah
that'll get you down in
a hurry huh that'll get you down
in a no you stay stay stay you're good you're good everything's
okay man everything's okay we're
coming up to the old pig pen shoots
this is the takeout spot
it looks very wide yeah the water's high i'm probably
not going to run it Tosh might he's got
a
skirt

those in the spring one year in the summer a bunch
but never not this year it's it was way too much
for me i'm gonna give this thing a wide berth go
around all the chop and then we are done there's
like it's all sorts of whirlpools here the water's
boiling up and churning it's wild it's pushing
my boat in every single direction possible the times
when i like to have a heavier boat here i like
this boat a lot super happy with its test run
super happy with the tent happy with the dog happy
with the boat happy with my buddy Tosh happy with
with the weather happy Joe happy Joe canoes

get him the roads up there i said i gotta get him
the roads up there all right back on the trail
trying to get back to the car got some deep snow
to go through some deep snow to go through and
lots of heavy loads and heavy boats
and uphill both ways six miles to school got wolfie already
situated in the truck he
was more than happy to go do that all
right you can see we've already
made the trip a couple times oh well we got mine up
and got all the gear up we're gonna leave
tosh is there because there's no sense of putting
on this truck just to take it off and drive back
past here so leave it there he can throw it
on his avoid some nonsense and a little bit
of a heartache because uh yeah that was a lot
of work anyway i hope you guys enjoyed the video
i'm pooch he's pooched hey wolf
