Replacing Old Electronic Air Cleaner With A Regular Filter!

Hey guys I think you're going to enjoy today's video. We're on our way to replace one of those old air cleaners. If I can remember I'll put the video up here where we found it and the actual opening was way too small for this air conditioner so we're replacing something that's more like a 16 by 20 with a 20 by 25 so we're going to have to cut all the way around it and reframe everything and i'm either going to make an absolute mess or it's going to turn out real good stick with me you'll find out hey guys today we are replacing this old electronic air cleaner with a 20 by 25 filter grill i have tried to prepare this is the only return for a three ton as you see that's 11 and a half inches wide by 18 so we are going to need a hole 20 20 inches wide and 25 inches tall first thing to do is get this old air cleaner out of here and screw it out i'm still not sure i'm gonna be able to get it okay the way these things worked this right here is a sail switch so there should be a sail right there so when air starts to move that sail switch will close and it should give power to that if the sail switch is working as you see i have a constant 120 volts I just pulled the sail switch up which means basically turning it off and now it's back on so what I need to do I'm gonna put this on wireless that right there really before I can do anything else I need to get rid of that electricity all right now I'm going to go look for the breaker and see if we can't find out which one kills that I still have 120 volts okay I do not have anything extra running to that okay so I was never able to find a breaker okay that is my wire right there and get some wire nuts and now we have no voltage so I'm gonna put some wire nuts on that I'm gonna proceed with what I was doing much better looks like this return comes all the way to here that is good news that is 16 that is 22 the next step is to remove these I made this great big old metal frame to connect to the ductwork looks like i'm not going to need it something a little over 20 inches here it's perfect that is perfect cut down here or here actually that might be simpler so i need it is like 20 and a quarter that is perfect see what i was measuring it's like 20 and a quarter and then up here i need 25 if y'all can see i am a bit short right here almost to all of that right there looks like it was just kind of added i might be able to cover that up not like this this is going to turn out easier than what i thought i'm going to pull this out and then we're going to go ahead and clean this up a little bit let's go get the vacuum clean up this mess is better not perfect i am going to hide this away as best as i can i'm gonna zip tie it up here and put electric tape around it and now this is what i was looking for isn't that wonderful these little screws come with the filter grill there's a little bit of space so that's nicer okay so that one turned out pretty good it did leave a little bit of a line on the wall where the trim was for the other one but man we went from what did i say 11 by 20 to 20 by 25 that is going to be much better i honestly think that maybe a 20 by 25 is what was there first those type of electronic air cleaners that ionize everything that goes past it um were popular like in the 80s so um i think they they were very happy they have a filter that they can now change and better airflow i hope you enjoyed if you did how about like and subscribe check out the link in the corner for my store and there's some other links for jobber and aciq down in down in the description catch you on the next one
