With attitudes towards tariffs shifting across the border.
Here in Michigan, we know that Canada is not our enemy.
Canada's opposition leader is headed
to the American Motor City once again to push for tariff-free trade.
We go with increased urgency and I think an even stronger case.
We see that there's growing support among Michigan taxpayers
to end this destructive tariff dispute
and to work together for the goal of free trade across our border.
Poilievre said he and local Conservative MPs would visit GM
and Ford plants in Michigan on Tuesday
and meet with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
His trip follows a similar one to Detroit earlier this year.
Since that time, there has been no deal.
The tariffs have worsened.
And now there's the threat of a massive tariff increase on January 1st.
Prime Minister Mark Carney suspended trade talks
with Washington in August,
saying the Trump administration asked too much and offered too little.
Trump, however, has not backed down,
even with polling showing a majority
of Americans oppose tariffs on Canada
and some Republicans in key swing states softening
their stance ahead of the midterm elections.
Everyone says like, oh, Canada's so nice. They treat us terribly.
Polyev criticized the prime minister
for failing to secure a deal thus far.
Our message to the prime minister is get back to the table,
get a tariff-free deal.
The workers at Stelco, Stellantis, Ford,
every other trade-dependent company in this country
are relying on the Prime Minister to keep his word and get a deal.
The Prime Minister's office did not respond
to a request for comment Tuesday,
but Trump has threatened fresh 50% tariffs on Canadian cars
and steel starting in the new year.
