We begin tonight, though, with new video
and new details out of Orlando.
A man accused of stabbing another man four times
downtown will stay behind bars with no bond.
Davion Brown appeared before a judge today.
Good evening, everyone. I'm Jack Royer.
And I'm Luann Sorrell.
Prosecutors argue he is a danger to the community,
but his defense claims he acted in self-defense.
Alexis Clevenger has more.
This video shows how a confrontation
in downtown Orlando ended with a man stabbed four times.
Mr. Brown then stands over Mr. Newhart,
who's still on his back, and stabs downward.
But what happened before the knife came out
was a question that came up in court today.
A detective with the Orlando Police
Department took the stand and testified.
He says Davion Brown was waiting for an Uber
at the corner of Orange Avenue and Central Boulevard
when the victim stopped in front of him on a bike.
He informed me that initially the two of them had a verbal altercation.
According to investigators, the victim first pulled out the knife,
but then put it on the ground.
The state says Brown could have walked away instead of using it.
In this case, when he picked up the weapon, thereby neutralizing
the threat, Your Honor, he could have left, he could have ran.
In this case, he instead closed distance,
testified to and found video by about six to eight feet,
Your Honor, and stabbed the victim four times.
But the defense argues Brown acted in self-defense.
The victim is the one who was the instigator of this incident
and the initial aggressor.
The judge considered the self-defense claim,
but ruled Brown stay in custody.
As to count one, Mr. Brown will be held without bond.
