Shifting our focus to India, Durga Puja transforms Kolkata every year
but this time the transformation
is reaching new corners of the city, fresh paint, festive lighting
and a historic first at Park
Street are turning Kolkata into a spectacular canvas of devotion, color
and celebration. Watch
me on the ground report from the City of Joy. Red
pink, yellow and orange, Kolkata is painting the
town in festive colors
and the transformation is impossible to miss, roads are being brightened
flyovers and bridges are receiving fresh coats
of paint, busy crossings are turning into colorful
works of art with traditional Alpona designs
bringing Bengali culture onto the city's streets
the City of Joy has decked up like never before. I
am standing on the iconic red road and as you can
see right here the colorful bands
of yellow, orange, pink has occupied this
street. It's not only a religious festival, we know Durga Puja is an art
and cultural festival. With Durga Puja just around the corner, people are
excited as the wait
for puja finally draws to an end
We are excited to see. Obviously, everything is open now.
In between work, there is no time,
but definitely we did not see the Goriahar flyover as of now.
We will, surely, once we are on our leaves. Once that starts.
But one landmark is stealing the spotlight.
Allen Park on Park Street,
long associated with Kolkata's Christmas celebrations,
has opened its doors to Durga Puja for the first time.
The new Pandal here is bringing a different festive identity
to one of the city's most recognisable destinations.
The organisers are praising
the new BJP government for bringing this change.
Durga Puja is happening and it is happening
because the government has come.
Durga Puja remains with the people.
Families gather before idols.
Friends plan their pandal hopping routes.
Dhakis bring the streets alive with their pounding rhythms.
For many, this is the moment Kolkata feels most like itself.
