Hey folks, how are you? Joe here.
We're about to jump into the main video, but first let's take
a look at the sponsor for this video, Bespoke Post.
Bespoke Post is a monthly membership club and they deliver
awesome boxes of top shelf goods from under the radar brands.
And as always, it's free to join.
Bespoke purchases 90% of the products in the boxes
from small businesses, and many of which are based right in the U.S.
For example, if you got the Trail Package, the gut hook knife
in that box is made by Titan International, located in Illinois.
every box is about 70 bucks in retail value
but you only pay fraction of the
price the best part about Bespoke
is you get to preview your box before it's
shipped so you're never gonna get anything you don't want based on your
preferences you'll get a box assigned
to you and before it's shipped you'll get a
preview of what comes inside
and after that you can decide if you want to keep
it swap it or skip the month entirely
for no charge you only pay for what you
want so it says the swing kit hatchet
kit we're gonna get a hatchet in here
I'm sure. I've already taken out the little card.
Cool. Cool. I like axes. If you know me,
you know I like axes. And this is one to make my own for sure.
A little guard. And it needs to be
sharpened, but that's fine. The profile is decent, nice and thin.
It's not overly wide. And the
handle is readily available to take on some boiled linseed oil
and honestly to make this my own. So
I like this little camp hatchet.
There's a couple other things in that swing box.
We've got a tinder scraper, which I've never seen one of these before.
Oh, that's cool, like a cheese grater.
Just going to run down some wood, some fingers.
Cool.
Never had one of those before.
Oh, and a mask, an axe mask for the hatchet.
Sick.
So you don't have to rely on the little rubber junk that will,
no doubt, get lost or break soon.
You've got a little Cordura.
sheath axe mask
that's kind of cool now you can trust that in your backpack
or whatever nice
well I'm sure I'll get as much use
from this stuff as I have been getting from
my old bare bones field hatchet I got
a couple boxes ago as you can see this
thing is used now I've been using it
for cleaning up camp splitting kindling
around the house taking down limbs just lots
of fun stuff this has turned out to
be a really useful tool alright folks

thank you guys for watching this on to the big video well
this has been an eventful couple hours
man I have a crossover sled here
so I'm able to go on and off trail a little bit but not crazy
off trail but these lakes back in here are no fishing
so nobody really goes back in here
so i broke trail in here i got stuck
on that little small back lake there mike just came out
after about an hour of me stuck back there he
didn't know what was going on so he strapped
on the snowshoes and came back
and helped me pull out i got stuck up four times couldn't turn around
on the trail because it's super deep off trail
anyways oh look i'm frosted up too anyway um on
the lake that we came in on it's all slushed eh yeah right
by the shore is really bad even with
the snowshoes i was breaking through right
so we're gonna have to go back to that lake and
kind of just boot back and maybe boot around the lake
or something but we can't get to these other
lakes just because they're inaccessible the lake
on this lake too i got stuck in the slush as well
it was even worse than that one yeah sun's gone in an hour too yeah
so anyways yeah we gotta go
back and work now after uh playing for a couple hours
these things they're fun and they're a good
tool but it adds a whole element of freaking sketchiness
and extra degree yeah sometimes
worth it sometimes not all right okay back
to you i'm gonna assume a little bit a little bit
now i'll boot
around this lake
for a bit anyway
look for some
firewood
on the shore
you can see oh yeah lots of slush we just don't want
to get the bike stuck that's the biggest
issue getting bogged down
and then they have no grip no traction to push off and then if
it solidifies and freezes in there
and you screwed boy it's a lot of work eh
who'd have
thought
slush would
be such
an issue
a lot better
without that
sledge on me
there's something seriously wrong
with my big camera i'm using my older one my canon
80d still because my nikon hasn't been back
from the factory after trying to get fixed and i don't
know if it's cold or what
but he said the memory card was all messed up too so i'm really hoping
but the footage didn't get messed up
but anyway i guess i'll use my GoPro it's wild
i'm glad i brought
the GoPro beautiful sunset out here check
this out man it's a nice campsite
it's all windswept
here that's why
the snow is not so deep
in spots but other
spots it is over
here up to my knees
that's weird man
camera's jacked
camera's jacked
hope so beauty that
so that matches your coat actually, that's nice.
Mustard and ketchup boys move up.
What's this, eggplant?
Yeah, all dressed.
Great mic.
It's
nice,
man.
It sure is beauty.
I'm cold and sweaty, so I'll walk back in the tent.
Fire must be going pretty good by now, I'd assume.
Gotta bring my helmet and my gloves in the tent
before too long, but I gotta warm up.
Warm up, dry off.
That's the beauty of the old hot tent, man.
Even if one of us would have went through,
thank God we didn't.
The likelihood of that is not high,
but hot tent, man.
Safe
and
secure.
All right, I think we fixed the camera here.
Look at our sunset view from the tent.
It's pretty awesome.
Can't really ask for more than that, eh?
I guess you could,
but you'd be asking a lot.
Starting to warm up quite a bit.
How's this working out?
Do you pull it down first or no?
You can just take it off, but yeah.
Oh, she's boiling, Mike.
So I'm going to make my famous stir fry.
I've got to put some oil in the pan.
I swear this is just oil.
It's just oil.
It looks like eggs in there, but it's so cold.
Oh, man, this is going to be an issue, dude.
I've got to get some butter, I guess.
Get some butter out.
Is it coming?
Come on.
Is it out?
Is it out?
All right, maybe we'll just put this in some hot water, I guess,
and melt it out.
We've been having to do.
Potatoes in there have been in there for quite some time.
I cut them small little discs because they'll cook up quick that way
quicker, and I've also now I've just put the onions and garlic in
I'm gonna wait a while, but we've got some greenery. We've got celery
Broccoli and the celery is kind of frosty
celery broccoli
Green onion, and I've also got
I got a carrot it was just a carrot. I was not happy to see it
so that was the thawing in my pants
so it's all kind of frosted up kind of frozen but that's okay
and then to top it all off we've got some sausages
to go in there for the meat and
um Lowry's seasoning we've also got orange what
do you call this one bell pepper bell pepper orange
pepper so orange bell pepper bell pepper
that's what we have where did I just put the freaking
There it is, there it is, got it.
Crisis averted.
And we are warming up the pups on these guys
on top of the stove to try not heat them up,
but we're thawing them out.
We've got a ton of slushies
here, as you can see here.
This'll be good.
Mike, I've made this for you how many times?
This'll be number two.
You like it?
Yeah, it was great last time.
Better than the sum of its parts, I think.
Say that again?
Better than the sum of its parts.
yeah exactly we'll see we'll see what happens
on round two but i remember being
like surprised how good it
was yeah it usually turns out really totally good i don't know how
how everything being frozen
and coming back will be but you shall see all hardwoods you can tell
the difference eh and we're using way less wood
tonight we probably we might have enough for both
nights now but we've only used like 10 pieces maybe
this time last night we'd use two or three
times that. Even if we have to go and get one or two tomorrow.
Yeah. I'm sure we'll have so much.
Yeah it's supposed to be minus 25 tonight celsius
which is the coldest night so we'll probably this
morning we had enough just to kind of take the chill off
but it'll be nice tomorrow to actually
have enough to want to get out of our sleeping bags before 10
a.m. Tonight's negative 25 tomorrow
was what a night? Uh 18 or something not quite as cold.
Yesterday was what negative 17? Yeah about
If we put in the sausages, all this other
stuff has been cooking for quite some time.
Broccoli, carrots, onions, garlic, potatoes,
red peppers, orange peppers, green onions,
I think that's everything.
And then three sausages here.
These are just grill'ems.
These are just like the cheap, or not grill'ems anymore, Schneiders.
They're just cheap sausages, man,
but they taste good and they're pre-cooked already,
so it makes life easier than trying
to cook sausages first in this situation.
So just switch these all around.
We haven't really added wood to the fire, eh?
Since we started cooking?
Nope.
So it's kind of dying down a bit,
but it was really hot and I like the sizzle that's going on
and I like the texture of everything.
It's not too dried out, pretty juicy.
So good temperature at least.
So we'll now put some wood in here soon
to kind of finish it off and cook up these sausages
now that there's so much food in the pan.
What do you think?
another sausage what
do you think some
of the secret spice
in there final touch
Lowry's I've made the Mike Lowry's joke too
many times I probably shouldn't do it again
anybody see the new Bad Boys movie yeah
didn't hold up it wasn't terrible but it
was not as good as the original.
Oh, Martin, Martin,
damn it, Gina.
Where was it terrible?
I can't remember now.
It wasn't great.
I didn't like it.
Putting it up to...
Now that you're saying it,
I think maybe I have a fonder memory of it
than I will actually remember.
It's no Ghostbusters 2.
Have you seen the new Ghostbusters?
No, after the one with the women?
Yeah, it's not after.
Is it good?
Yeah, it's good.
Okay, I have not watched it, but I will.
I didn't see the previous one.
Who was in it?
I heard there's like a cameo from Bill Murray
or someone, Dan Aykroyd.
Someone was in the original one.
No?
Yeah.
Yeah, nice, perfect.
I like that.
Hopefully everyone who's watching this
has seen the past.
Well, you didn't say who it was,
so that's a good man, like,
always using your old noggin.
Yeah.
Okay, I'm sitting on the ground for a long time now.
Do do, do do do,
do do do do do do do do.
Okie dokie, two hungry boys here.
Looks like it turned out pretty good.
Pretty
stoked
for it,
edgy.
Yeah?
It tastes very similar to lobster.
Yeah, it smells like it.
Pretty good?
Very good.
Cool.
Well, we're about to get into bed.
Not necessarily go to bed, but we made our beds up.
We're gonna lay down now.
Earlier than yesterday.
Before we do, I just put a bunch of wood here,
some smaller sticks and bigger fuel,
so that in the middle of the night,
when I get up to pee, I can stoke the fire
and try to stay relatively warm all night
Because Mike just went out to pee and check the temperature.
And what did you say it was?
It was 24 Celsius.
So that's serious.
That's already 6 degrees cooler than it was at all yesterday night.
And it's only like 10 o'clock at night.
So we're anticipating a pretty chilly night.
But it's all good.
We're comfortable in here.
Probably going to go to bed soon.
Like I said, we're going to lay down now.
Be with you in the morning.
Good night.
Love them pieces.
Love them up.
It's day 3 now.
We got up a bit earlier than yesterday.
we're out on the lake now it's about noon
so we've eaten and we're gonna go for a snowshoe hike
beautiful day i wish i would have brought
sunglasses very silly of me not to i'll check
out this hole i chipped out
yesterday oversaw it got down
pretty cold pretty cold last night
what do you think what do you think negative 30 it
was negative 27 this morning or 10 p.m last
night negative 26 so we're sure it got down roughly negative 30
which is pretty probably
coldest i've camped this year
all righty got the old skis ski
daddles well you lead the way i'm on
my slow shoes
the color
of the lichen
fluorescent
orange big big old
crevasse there
look at that
this is a cool island pretty uh pretty elevated
though not not good for camping on yeah you want
to rock climb look at the lichen so that lichen
is like a moss type thing and that is the real
color you're seeing it's that vibrant looks like like
a fluorescent like an orange construction
cone color now we're quite
a ways down
the lake now we came across
these fresh tracks they look
coyote or wolf i mean small on the small side
so probably coyote but they go quite some ways
pretty cool pretty sunny all right we found
a good example of the old circle of life as mike said
uh we've been walking on this lake not much tracks other than
the coyote we saw we started to see
some bird tracks like this here
and then come over here there's some disturbance there's some bird
poop then check this out here's his feet here his feet there
and then there's his wings and his
wings there you can see his wing print boom feet wing print there
so it's a good span it looks like
the size of like a decent sized hawk to me falcon
yeah man we saw it there it's all over here we got
something maybe a little mouse
or something running across the lake pretty cool though the feet are
are pretty pretty decent size oh yeah
no there's tons over here
you're right yeah look another
little plop down here some feet plop down took
flight oh there's some oh yeah yeah look at this
disturbance in the forest over here what is this poops
and like wood chips or maybe that's just
poops frozen poops what
is this wood chips mushrooms weird
yeah give a little running start
huh damn nature mike and i were walking from way back there
and we saw this big rock and look how
vertical it is right i don't know if you can tell
but like it's it's pretty straight up and down
check out this though we see these tracks
the same tracks as before we think they're coyote or wolf
whatever they're going up we check out the way
that the direction is it's going up it went straight
up this vertical hill look at this this is no joke
how what 70 degrees like all the way up straight
up switchbacked all the way up it's wild like
for real wild oh yeah these little guys yeah and
there was something over here where it looks like
he got something he came down he did a loop these
are his tracks he came back this way
but here there's like this little imprint of a bird and
some little tracks here so maybe he came down
grabbed something ran right back up but look at
no joke that's vertical vertical kind of grill
there's
still
another
layer
of
ice.
Yeah,
Ernie.
Yeah,
it's
gotta
be
easily
well
over
a
foot
thick
here
It
smokes
dude as
far as we
go down
You're out.
All these
wood chips
in here
Not too
shabby and
then what
fill it up
with some
snow, eh?
Yeah, that way it doesn't freeze over so bad.
Good idea.
A
touch
of
leaf
litter
in
there.
The more we know that
there's like tracks.
Yeah, it's really weird, man.
It's nice though.
It's a nice sky.
Mm-hmm.
Bourbon?
Yeah.
Looks
like
here.
It looks like this.
It looks like.
Going that way.
That way, yeah.
I want to come right down here.
Right there.
What's over there?
Did we go over there?
Is that where the campsites were?
Or were they over on the next one?
They're past.
Past.
But like, yeah, this time of night,
you're not coming in.
No.
Maybe there's another cabin
There could be another cabin over there
Ripping in Thursday night
We've got some
bison sausage we're
cooking up right now
We're going to fry it up and put it in the dinner that Mike is making
What is the dinner that Mike is making?
We have mini tortellini
Cappelletti I guess it's called
And we have chunky tomato and basil pasta sauce
And then a bunch of parmesan
Nice. So there's actually Italian sausage inside these,
but we are doubling down on the sausage. We brought the sausage
Because we only had the one steak on the first night,
but it turned out to be pretty big
so we, Joe brought these bison sausages to supplement if required,
so we figured we'd throw them into the
Pasta and have double meat. Double meat, right.
Yeah, because they come as like actual sausages, pretty red too
but we figured we'd sausage them up chunk them up
and go better in the pasta
I'm looking forward to it last time Mike made
this was really good and it was
without the bison so it'll only be that much better I look very red
There's not even a light on,
I'm in ketchup pants
There's like 500 in here,
you have to eat 250 of these little guys
Hello? What do you think Mike?
It's good, here we go.
Bison sausage, double sausage.
We did this one last night so we don't have
to clean the pot out. We'll just take it home
tomorrow and deal with it.
Well it's morning of day 4, it's about 7 in the morning. We're
getting packed up and out of here.
Mike's got like a 7 hour drive to get home and I'm
excited to get home to see the family
so got all our stuff poured down already. Gonna get
tent
down
next
okay
that's
it some
piled
up wood
for the
next
people
nice
bed all
we got
left is
our lids and our shoes what do you think mike time
to go home yeah we got lucky it's only
minus 15 or something yesterday was minus 30 at the same time
so that would have been a lot worse
yeah oh good times yeah it was a good sight
a little windy in the beginning didn't get nearly
as much snow as we were supposed
to but that's okay too yep we're cool all right thanks for
Thanks for coming.
Yeah, see you next time.
