a video you guys have been really good to me and
really good to the channel I really appreciate it
on to the big video that
was by far the most mosquitoey night I have ever experienced
in my life I only
got up once to pee and partly
because I was scared of mosquitoes because I got
up once to fix my hammock and pee
and they were there was a carpet a car thick
shag carpet of mosquitoes all upon
my hammock my straps my underquilt and then
all over me but my hammock was a little saggy
and I needed to straighten it
tighten it and I could really only get one strap done because it was so
incessant they were thick on me thick
so very many mosquitoes so it's pretty
pretty buggy again this morning already eaten I've jumped
in the water got my
morning ritual and uh we're gonna get up and go just
because it's it's intolerable here sitting
out there eating breakfast
and just getting peppered i got probably 45 mosquitoes in my
tent or my hammock each time i got up i got up again in the morning
and laid back down it was
rough man it's been quite a quite
a long time killing them all in there they come in on me
and they come in as i'm getting
in and out will literally stay there's blood stains all over
in here and all over my shirt and everything like I swear there are
anyway little pinholes where they got through
my shirt I'm not complaining I'm
not I'm just explaining what happened
last night anyways all good good camp we
are on to the next one Oh update tonight
is our last night that we're camping out
we have two more nights out here
but tomorrow night we're actually able to
stay in an outpost lodge where we're
gonna get picked up from a float plane
to fly us out of here
so we got driven in and we're flying out as opposed to
flying in and driving out like my last time
so we're looking forward to that
maybe there's a couple board games
or a deck of cards or something in the
outpost cabin we don't know we never really planned
on it too much but as we
were over here like yeah let's spend
the last night there so that's what we're
gonna do and today we have a lot
of fishing a lot of really pretty river
travel and not too much travel
but anyways no rush today do you think I am
faking. These are the bodies of my mine enemies.
Look at how thick, carpeted.
That's inside my sleeping pad guy, my top quilt
I didn't put those there. I did
not collect those off of something and put them there
They are there because
that's how many, plus a bunch I'm sure, oh my god, attacked me
They learned their
lesson I'm sure. Mwahahahaha
Nice little waterfall here.
We're not in the walleye
like kitchen yet but i think we're one
or two uh portages over but we're gonna try and grab a
walleye for lunch but i think i might try
and fish here just because it looks pretty we got one let's
see what we got i don't know what it is it's a fish
though definitely a fish who knows it's a
walleye i'm sure good
old wabakimi first cast
walleye might have
a pike oh no that's a nice
walleye dude holy crap we're gonna oh my god
that's a monster mike that's a freaking monster
dude get him in the boat get him
in the boat yes we're eating
that uh mike let's go check it out
we will uh we'll see just why they call it
that there's a campsite right next to the falls here
where we can hang out for quite some time and cook
up sir michael's monster walleye yeah this is
ready man one of the best parts
of the trip lifted spirits times man look at this
you can crash all the same time plug
kitchen third third cast we got
not so bad okay this
one's decent this is number two so we're cleaning up
this fish quite a few fish out of here this is
a really good fishing
spot really pretty
too fishy might caught
close i don't know
man doesn't look much
better than that can't take time all the time to stop
and have a shore lunch like it's not always
appropriate like yesterday
was hot hot hot he wouldn't even want to eat a fish let
alone sitting here by a fire for an hour
but roasting just completely sweating
twas so humid out tending to the fire making
the foods anyways jumping all
over it when we can it's a perfect day
for that at the second last
portage I think of the trip actually it's gone up
to go use the little boys
room I've caught a walleye
and a decent pike out of here already using my
Toronto Wobbler the old Toronto Wobbler I think Buddy Cone gave it
to me in Woodland Caribou two
years ago when I met him there Cohen Coon I'm saying
his name right the Dutch explorer check
him out on YouTube anyway I met him there on my way
in waiting for Kyle and he gave me that so it's
been a good lure and I've been trying out all sorts
of different lures today because I've had
a lot of luck today and having a little bit
of fun switching out lures and seeing what works
and see what does it and it seems like this is a pike smash
or the pike will really like this
one we're about to hit a rock watch he's going
to grab it again the pike are yep there he goes
they hit it and then they they don't commit
and then they get it again after a little flick of
the wobbler oh it's a good one there still must
be some smoke in the air because I can see the
reflection of the sun off of everything
and it has that certain glow that it's had for the last
few days I can't smell or taste it
or anything like normal and it's not stinging my eyes and
I can't really see it in the sky
but it's definitely a cover of the the sun's has a
cover this
is a decent
walleye the
old Toronto
wobbler back
in he goes
what was that
that was
the that was the last portage I
don't know if you guys can hear
this humming it
is the hordes of
mosquitoes that plague us
at nighttime now I haven't filmed anything since the walleye kitchen
but it's like 10 30 or 11 we got to camp
and uh messaged the outfitter as per nightly duties
and we were informed that there is now a fire ban here in Wabakimi
so we can't even have a fire to
combat the the mosquito horde
so we're in our tents did some fishing ate some supper had a good
night really comfortable weather really nice night
but uh now we can't have any more fires until the
end of the trip but that's okay tomorrow's our last night
and we're at the cabin anyways
so it's not a big deal
but uh we're gonna make some blueberry pancakes in the morning on
mike's stove and we're actually in the afternoon
because we're gonna sleep in and then get to the
cabin tomorrow sometime in the early afternoon
because it's right down it's just a couple lakes
away maybe even just one lake away
but uh you all settled
in there buddy yeah just buzzing over top
me talking but uh anyways good night another good day
and we're both remarking how much the time is
flying by now so anyways head on off to bed
and we'll get with you tomorrow at some point
maybe we're at the cabin maybe we're
in the morning maybe in the morning we're making
blueberry pancakes we're gonna we're gonna pick
some fresh blueberries and make some pancakes up
so we'll get with you get with you then good
night oh good morning i want to show the folks
what we got in the cup,
picked them up this morning with a little bit of energy that we have.
We're gonna make some blueberry pancakes, got the mix in here.
I'm gonna use Mike's Primus,
is there a Primus stove? No, BRS, Ultralight, something or other.
Primus gas. Gotcha, so his
gas stove anyway and uh we're
being respectful, smart campers.
All right, entree vu. Put them all?
Yep, this is blueberry pancake.
Jam.
Yeah, blueberry flavor
is very intense.
I think we're all packed away.
This will be the last campsite of the trip.
We're going to the outpost camp.
All right, we just heard the train honk.
We must be near the train tracks that we have to go under.
We have to paddle under them.
This train comes out into the middle of nowhere.
Well, you can tell we're getting close to the train tracks.
Little outpost cabins around.
Well, this isn't what we had expected,
but Mike's walked down there a little bit
and he said, Joe, you gotta come check this out.
So, let's go.
See this pile
of rocks, we
know we're going
the right way.
Maybe in higher, oh, what?
Yeah, in higher water we could've paddled through.
That's crazy.
Smells funny over here.
It's creepy, he says.
Are we going through this?
Ah, excuse me.
We are gonna get wet.
Oh my goodness, dude.
Yeah, we're going through.
That's so crazy.
In here, oh my goodness, this is cool.
Right in the solid granite.
Does it make an explosion in here?
Make a boom hole.
Wow, okay, okay.
Let's do it.
Up into the tunnel
here, tunnel
of no return.
It's a
little
echoey
in
there.
Pretty
spiderweb.
Everything I expected and more.
We're gonna go up to climb up
and see if we can see the train tracks.
Say the actor Michael Caine's name
the way that Michael Caine would say his own name.
Say it right now.
Oh my goodness,
first signs of civilization.
It's a haul up
here, okay.
I wanna beat you!
Oh, cement?
Ties.
Yeah.
They ain't effin' around.
Look at
these Jimmy
Bobbers.
These guys
are acting very strange.
Birds they go.
All right, well, that was a very cool addition
and ending to our trip.
Escape from my Bikini.
Duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh.
Starring Al Napock, Nicholas Cage, The Rock.
Who else?
My cocaine!
This has gotta be the outpost here.
see some boats we'll go check it out I think
so Mike I think so friggin land
hole bad storm the beach right now just have
the softest landing on the whole
trip
right
yeah
there's
some
boats
nice
well get
settled
and well
show you
guys
around, well, how we've taken full advantage
of the cabin, it's after 6 now
we both slept hard for a few hours
and then we had a good nap here, passed out
in this room which is pretty cool
a couple bunks, mattresses, bunk beds, tables
same thing in here, a little bit more
storage and we have been reading
magazines, Field and Stream and Canoeing
and Sports Illustrated and Serena
Williams and we got our food stuffs out
there's all sorts of cutlery, silverware
plates, dishes, some games, some books.
I'm gonna play Boggle, Peggy Hill style. Oh yeah!
Propane stove, lights, paintings,
the works guys, the works. So we don't need
propane or anything like that. We've
been out in the bush for a long time. This is
more than we need. There's
a nice wood stove here too. But yeah, we're just
taking it easy. Gonna cook supper soon
and I think that just consists of boiling
water so we're good, look at this fishing lure, he's
a better bait, looks like a plug, why are we
standing here Mike, so we had
our route planned, actually well we changed from Woodland Caribou
and the only ride we could get out
was tomorrow, tomorrow morning early like 8 a.m. or 9 a.m. so
we finished the route a little bit early
and we were also concerned about there's not really too
many campsites near here, we passed one, it wasn't very good
so we're concerned about being here other
people are getting dropped off in the morning at 9 a.m
so it's nine so we have to get out on
their flight so in order for us to stay somewhere else we'd have
to get up super early to come here
so we ended up finishing up
and Bruce had said if you know there's no one there go ahead and use it
so we get picked up right off the dock
so we don't have to worry about setting up our tents and all
that stuff we can just pack up everything tonight get up in the morning
and walk out in the water and
yeah it's a nice soft exit yeah that's where we
actually played this game we didn't just arrange
the words and then show you all I matter is I won yeah what
do you win by 10 14 good game good game
we are out for one last paddle the lighting
is absolutely perfect right now figure we'll get out
explore this lake a little bit it's nine
o'clock now we're rested we had that nap so yeah nothing
much going on just gonna relax we've been playing scrabble
and president or a-hole card game which
a very fun game but like I say not much going
on just enjoying the last night
the lighting is absolutely perfect right
now it's that forest fire filter last
night are we on Endor right
now forest moon of Endor
Endorian there's a moose
over there on the shore we're gonna go try
and get somewhat close to it not too
close first
real wildlife
sighting
in eight days
Other than bald eagles, that's all we saw last night,
five minutes from the plane pickup.
I guess we can't count out our squirrel friends
from earlier this morning, but, you know,
fur-bearing mammals.
Squirrels are, too.
Darn it.
Big,
big animals.
And with this young walleye,
you have completed my everyday fish-catching agenda for this
trip.
Goodbye, young friend.
Thank you for your service.
All right, so this is the eighth day.
We're just done Wabaquimi.
Mike, tell me what your thoughts are and your expectations
and what happened.
What are your thoughts on this place,
and what you thought it was going to be?
Yeah, very different in feel from Algonquin or Killarney,
which are, I guess, even different from each other.
Yeah, nothing's marked, which is good.
I guess it can be bad, but everything feels very different.
Obviously, you have the boreal forest, which is very different.
There's no white pines.
you just have the jack pine black spruce mix
a lot more moss um yeah you just you really do
feel like it'll make Algonquin feel
a little bit more tame maybe but that's okay too
it's just very different we didn't see a single person
um hardly any signs of civilization at all
except that this last lake really
which we were just remarking is not even though we keep thinking
of it yeah we were mentioning before that there was a train here
and some cabins but there's no
drive-in access here we're like 30
or 40 kilometers from the nearest town i think at least
we got a 20 30 minute plane ride in the morning
to get out the train literally just goes in the
middle of nowhere
so yeah it's different it makes you want to do more go further
it is i guess the same in some ways
but it does feel quite different i don't really know how to
describe it i mean other than just
the trees obviously it looks different but the ruggedness
of those that one it's just it's more wild it just feels more wild
which it is you're just
you're literally in the middle of nowhere yeah i had
a really good time i was happy to have mike
with me this time it's nice to be by yourself
but it's also nice to have a buddy with you have some
company so we'll uh we'll get with you
in the morning we're gonna get on the plane so that's
always interesting but as for tonight i'm just gonna finish
our our canoe paddle maybe try and
catch a lake trout down here if we have
the gumption to paddle a little bit farther and uh
play some play some euchre play some euchre
at the cabin yep no mosquitoes tonight boat is
all right folks it's uh about a half hour till
the plane comes we're gonna go sit down on the dock
get the boats ready to go on the plane
but to strip them down and everything and i gotta bring
our backpacks down nice night good times played euchre until
the wee hours in the morning and
Played Scrabble and read some magazines.
Had a good time.
It was a nice soft entrance, soft exit to the trip.
Great trip.
Very
fun
trip.
To the plane now, 20 minutes.
This is the first time in like three or four days
where the sun looks normal.
And you guys I'm sure can tell from the video
where it's not that orange.
It was like that this morning,
but we can see normal sky.
So we really lucked out.
What was it supposed to be for like three or four days
with no breeze or anything like that?
It would have been rough.
I was able to go without my top on for like two days
and not get a sunburn at all
Which is totally abnormal, but we lucked out
and then today as we're leaving. It's it's back to normal
So I'm I'm thankful for that for sure.
It could have been a very different story,
especially on that smooth rock lake
Yeah, that would have been a bad day.
I mean it was a little bit bad that day, but nothing like that
And it's only 8 o'clock. You get the 9 o'clock shadow
Yeah, looks good
And just like clockwork there she
be the old otter coming in hot
He might have to turn around.
Oh, we passed the sun.
Oh, that was so cool
