Game and Grub.
Happy Holidays and welcome to Game
and Grub where we play with our food.
It's our holiday special.
Yeah, there's a nice roaring fire going.
We're going to roast chestnuts.
Have you ever had a chestnut?
I have never had a roasted chestnut.
Have you ever had a chestnut, you know, even just a regular chestnut?
I'm not 100% sure what a chestnut is.
Like, I know what it looks like because I see them sold
in stores around this time of year.
We were at a store.
There was a huge bin of chestnuts.
There must have been, like, 3,000 chestnuts in that bin.
I was like, oh, that's a chestnut?
Like, I like snacking around the time of year.
I crave things like Chex Mix.
I crave things like artichoke dip.
Can't say I crave chestnuts.
I've never had a chestnut.
Can't say I crave any nuts, for that matter, around this time of year.
Um, walnuts, maybe.
Those are, see, oh, you know which ones are good.
Have you ever had the spice nuts?
The ones that are, like, in, like, a spicy sweet glaze?
Uh, yes.
Those are delicious.
um one of my like you know you're you hang out
at your relatives for the holidays a lot sometimes
and there's a lot of downtime
so during the downtime kids are bored uh and you're not
allowed to play your Game Boy
because you're supposed to be spending time with family but
they're all talking about like taxes
so you take out the nutcracker and you start just cracking
walnuts sure that's that was our fun yeah i like how
that sounds really awful um i mean it's
No, you're not allowed to have fun with your game.
We're going to put you to work.
We're eating them.
We weren't cracking walnuts for everybody.
Oh, so you just were eating them for yourself.
Yeah.
Okay, okay, okay.
That's not too bad then.
And you know, this kind of touches
on what we're going to do for this episode.
Instead of going to a fast food restaurant and then reviewing a game,
we're going to instead talk about some holiday memories.
A lot of people nowadays have...
Gaming is such a big part of our lives now, for pretty much anybody.
it's uh more and more people are doing it
for fun even if it's just on their phone yeah i mean
mobile gaming has uh opened the world of gaming to a lot more people
and in some cases it's i mean
there's even definite research that you know
a game like Pokemon Go actually boosted sales of the
3DS Pokemon games so it probably brought
in more people than it did before so we're going to talk
about kind of our holiday gaming memories
and uh our plans for this year because i think we both
have some serious plans but i why don't you go first
with your with your holiday gaming memories
um so around the holidays i remember
when i was really little and before like when there were a
game would come out like a video game system like the N64
or the GameCube sure and we wouldn't get
it our parents were like no you don't need that uh
but our cousins would so around christmas time
we'd always like be up visiting they live like an hour away
so we'd be up visiting and i remember
watching uh vividly like i can vividly remember how
to beat Ganondorf in Ocarina of Time because
i watched them do it like a hundred times that's
a fun battle to watch yeah it's fun to play but
i'd i would not mind watching that it's a lot
of fun uh Banjo-Kazooie was another one we watched
that's a good one too because
these are single player games just put your little cousins behind
you and you get to play the video game did you ever
when you when you have a little kid with
you i did this with my nieces and they want to play
but you don't want to let them play because
you want to play so you give them a controller
that's not plugged in i know i've had that done
to me okay uh but i was the youngest
so i don't like i don't have the i've i was always being
shared with i don't have sure the uh the experience
of sharing the game with they were so savvy they
never fell for it like they knew like immediately like plug
my controller but uh so anyway eventually
yeah your whole family gets together uh
so you've got finally you've got players three and four
sure uh it's time for some Smash Brothers time
for some Mario Kart uh Mario Party and to that
end i think Mario Kart and Smash Brothers are kind
of the universal ones that pretty much anyone can
get in and start playing yeah
and enjoy themselves yeah i remember uh my aunt playing mario kart she
flipped the controller around backwards
because she couldn't handle like the the way and this is
the n64 or the i think this is a gamecube controller okay
but like you you move right to
go right and move left to go left, and that was too much.
So she flipped it around so she could go the
other way. That's so funny.
It was just very odd. Did she end up doing okay?
Playing that way? No. No, I can't imagine.
Because, like,
a GameCube controller is already pretty daunting,
like, if you've never, if you're not used to
using those controllers. I mean, it's got a big green
button. Yeah. And in Mario Kart,
you press the big green button and you use
the stick, like, that's it. Yeah.
But, oh, that's so funny. I can't even, like, picture
in my head. Adult, do you have a story about adults
failing at video games? I, I would
My first time that my sister and I tried to get my mom
to play Mario Kart, she played as Yoshi in Mario Kart 64,
and she was driving like a drunk person, but she won!
She got first place out of anywhere, and it was so funny.
She hasn't been able to replicate that again,
because she actually does enjoy playing.
If the family's playing Mario Kart, she's like, I definitely want
to try, so she'll get in and she'll play, and she'll do pretty good.
I mean, better than, like,
any probably 60-year-old lady should be doing a Mario Kart.
But she does pretty good.
And so it's cool to just kind of see her, like, enjoy herself.
It's fun to see, you know, someone that normally
you wouldn't think enjoys themselves playing
Mario Kart enjoy themselves playing Mario Kart.
Yeah, I think I got my granddaughter to play Pokemon Snap once.
Oh, that's a weird game.
Yeah.
That's a weird game to get them to play.
Well, because, you know, it's got the Z trigger.
Yeah.
That's not a concept that they can handle.
and this is weird but do you have any games
that you normally play this time of year more than
like do you have a tradition of playing a game
that i gotta play this time of year it's christmas
time i gotta play this usually around christmas time it's like
a new game okay right so i have a
vivid memory of staying up way too late after
christmas playing Assassin's Creed 2 i don't
know why that sticks in my head probably
because i was disobeying the rules sure by playing it with
a very low sound staying up all night but now
because i i'm i come from a mexican household
we do kind of all of our partying on christmas eve
and then we stay up late till midnight and
then we unwrap our presents and then we play
those uh play with our gifts until you know we're tired
out and then christmas day is pretty much as nap day we all nap
so a lot of times like you said i
would get a new game and then i would play it all night
and probably play most of the next day and
then because you know you get you get all
those days off from school do you have a game that
you're playing uh that you plan on playing
for the holidays um so i recently resubscribed to
World of Warcraft uh-oh uh with some new people
who have like never played before and a couple
of them are you know still in school
so they have like this uh month off so and around when i when
i was first started playing that way back
in 2004 what kind of character are you maining uh i know
very little about World of Warcraft currently
like i'm concurrently maining several characters
oh several just because none of them have played before
so we're all leveling up one to uh one to
one hundred and ten one to 100 one to 110 however far we get they might quit
because you know it's a that's a
lot of levels but i did a recruiter friend with them
so we get like a bonus experience thing so
i can play multiple characters uh pretty
effectively where normally you get like really
burnt out if you go one to 60 on a single single character
but i i mean i i tanked i don't know
if you know what that means yeah like a heavy character
that can take a lot of damage they can
deal it out in a group you want to you're the person
who the enemy is supposed to attack sure
everybody else does the damage around you
and the healer heals you and you just sit there and you
take it yeah in this in Splatoon terms it's
a roller yeah yeah it's the one who like goes first
and paves the way yes yes the snipers sit in the back
but yeah as far as when i was littler uh way
back when when because this game's been out
for a really long time oh yeah it's been out forever
it's over 10 years i would i would resubscribe
at about this time of year school is about to get out
short break you get a month uh
and maybe keep it going for a little while until school kicks back
in like difficulty or your parents say no but yeah
so i don't know uh what i mean i don't what
do you do i find myself playing going back
to the gamecube um i'll either play walkthrough of
Wind Waker but more often than not
I run through Metroid Prime
you could easily do that if you're playing all day
you could beat Metroid Prime in like
two days
not 100%
I've heard the record is a little short of a minute
oh I'm sure it is but I like to enjoy myself
I'm not a speedrun guy but I do like to
you know you get to enjoy
Metroid Prime this year I have not touched
Metroid yet
because I have
a new thing that I do too is
typically where
where i've been working i would get like a week off
for the whole um you know the kind of interim
between christmas and new year's yeah so i have a lot of time
so what i do is there's tons of sales
on steam yeah and on at this point on the e-shop as well
and uh you you know you buy you know a
good 20 30 40 dollars worth of games
and then you can just play them throughout the holiday so i've
got a yeah my email just came in today yeah uh six items
on your steam wish list are on sale yeah
I'm like, uh-oh.
Yeah, that's...
I hope this doesn't awaken something in me.
Oh, and that's what always happens because...
I mean, it'd be crazy not to buy it.
Yeah.
I think I'm probably going to play through the Lord of the Rings game.
Those things, too.
Okay, yeah, that was...
the Mordor and that other one
I think that one's new.
This is the second Tomb Raider that I never played through.
I really like the first one, Rise of the...
Yeah, the Crystal Dynamics Tomb Raider.
The one they're making a movie about.
I did not know they were making a Tomb Raider movie.
are they bringing back
Angelina Jolie
or are they getting
somebody else
they have
it's Alicia Vikander
I'm not sure who that is
did you ever see
Ex Machina
no
I don't know
I'll do a Google search
later
I got like
I love
I know people are like
tired of the glut
of Metroidvanias
when indie games
I am not
I cannot get enough
of them
especially if they're
they're cute
I like a cute
Metroidvania
like Momodora
I don't know if you
ever played that
that's very cute
but I got one called
skelemania you play as a skeleton okay like a cute skeleton
and i'm looking forward to that
uh there's another one i think with a nint like a cute ninja in it
so like i'm playing like four
different i'm gonna i haven't even installed them
yet i just bought them and i'm gonna probably do
that when i get home later uh play a bunch of metroidvanias
and oh and i'm gonna be reviewing
a game called Enter the Gungeon for Nintendo
or Pure Nintendo Magazine and it's like a top-down
action shooter and it's a lot
of fun really hard it reminds me of like really hard super
Nintendo games okay um like the phrase Nintendo hard yes yes
but not in a way that like because
anytime someone describes a game
as Nintendo hard i usually don't want to play it um i don't want
to play Contra i don't want
to play uh you know Mega Man 3 i don't want to play a lot of there
have been times in my life where i'll come
to a game i'll hit a point i'll try it like 100 times
i'll put the game down
for two weeks i'll pick it up pick it back up do it on my first try
hey that's pretty good like i don't know what it
is but like maybe you let it you let it wait
nah if i suck now i'm probably gonna suck tomorrow
that's the thing i don't know that
was the thing about sucking i was probably just getting it
with like fresh eyes or uh getting
into too many bad habits of like uh i don't know you play
a action adventure game you can
use like certain combos with your weapons usually like i got
a God of War like a Legend of Zelda um
you get into like a habit
and then you know that doesn't work for like whatever part you're on so
you gotta switch it up or maybe it was just a puzzle
so those are our holiday plans when we
come back we're gonna talk about all the great stuff we ate
this year mostly not on this podcast
when the grinding gets you down hop a griffin
to my town in the land of ice and snow it's always
It's Christmastime in Dunmore.
And we're
back.
And a lot of holiday episodes, usually with review shows,
go over what the best, sometimes the worst, things of the year were.
We started this as like, this would be like our halfway season break,
because we started in the fall.
But we can still look back at what we ate this year.
Sure, because we ate a lot this year,
and I think it's what led us to make this podcast.
A little bit.
Because we found ourselves eating a lot.
and we it's so funny because we normally have
good experiences eating out um and i'm sorry that
we weren't able to capture like half
of them yeah well we don't always try new things no
no we usually stick what did you eat today what did you bring
in to the before we recorded i
polished off i i'm gonna say i inhaled it i inhaled the beef
and cheddar and how many beef
and cheddars would you say this year
that you've eaten oh geez you know what i keep it i don't need
Arby's that much because i don't have one near me i have
to i have to i have to schlep for us
for an Arby's and i don't always like doing
that so probably a good at least five i've had at least
five beef and cheddar probably had like 20 oh
my gosh well you live you live down you could
you could feasibly walk to your i could walk
to that Arby's yeah i don't know why there's no need to do
that yeah well i'm usually hanging out with people
who enjoy Arby's it's on the way home
so yes i can pop there for a beef and cheddar
and it just reminded me like how perfect the
sandwiches and how bad everything else is like
or at least their Thanksgiving offerings um i mean i
know i used to eat the Reuben there we're
not we don't you're not going to use the word Reuben
anymore in my presence it felt dirty in my mouth
and i think you immediately regretted it just
brought back memories yeah we're gonna get we're gonna get PTSD
so what's some of the great food
that you had this year great food that i've had
this year i really like that Del Taco burrito
from episode one you got the good one i got
the kind of flaccid one yeah those Wiener Central
tamales were also amazing very amazing
and earth-shattering because they taste just like
homemade i i'll stick to that and i'd be willing
to die on that hill yeah because it's such a
great tamale i think if you're used
to really great tamales give it a shot and you'll find
yourself surprised i think i've eaten a fair bit
of uh you ever been to like a Pyology or a Blast
or a Blaze Pizza sure like
a brick oven pizza place yeah like you get like it's a it's like
a chipotle for pizza yeah uh you kind of like make
your own um those are always good yes i'm
thinking back over the year i have a brick oven i couldn't have
those anytime i want those i think
i don't know if it's blaze or blast that has like
the jones soda in their fountains okay so or like
it's like fancy soda yeah fancy soda uh
so did you have any new fancy sodas that you like this
year um i mean i usually go for the the cream soda
but anything new that you tried i did i did
like the uh pepsi the those are pretty tasty
brad's drink wait oh yeah brad's drink yeah the
1876 uh yeah 1776 yes you know just the other day
or yesterday actually at our at our friendship
christmas that we had with our friend emily i had
a dr pepper that uh you know they comes bottled
you know with pure sugar okay and that was delicious
and i'm gonna go back and stock up
for the holidays there was like
a pellegrino grapefruit uh beverage that yes was that good
That was very good.
And I don't know, beverages.
I don't really stray too much in beverages.
Neither do I, especially because this year, around late fall,
Coke Zero was retooled and I think improved even more so.
I thought Coke Zero was already a perfect diet beverage.
Coke Zero Sugar, even better, and I slurp it down like a fish.
I probably, at this point for the last month,
I've had at least two a day, which is probably melting my bones.
um probably not advisable and it's probably only gonna get worse around
the holidays but i love it
i love it i love it easily the best beverage i've had this year uh you
and uh our friend emily took
us took me to uh try my first chick-fil-a oh
that was that this year i think that was this year yeah
this was early this year it was right after we went
to go see the power rangers movie okay yeah
chick-fil-a is a good sandwich
and i was i didn't know what to expect i heard a lot of talk about it
you know they say it's good
but i remember this the first time i tried it i was like you guys need
to stop talking for a second
because i need to like i need to like make peace with the sandwich
because it was so amazing and then we had you try the sauce
and then the sauce was even better the
chick-fil-a sauce and the french fries uh fantastic
and then we eat i mean that's kind of our one of
our go-to places when we do go if it's nearby
if it's nearby usually after a movie uh we'll go
we'll go get chick-fil-a because it's
so good um i've had it i've you know this year i've probably
had close to i probably have
at least 10 chick-fil-a sandwiches i was working i was doing
sound for a play up in uh like it was like 45 minutes away
in like a mountain mountain-ish area
of auburn okay uh that there was a chick-fil-a nearby like on the way
and we would get out like
late enough to where uh like if i were to go all
the way home like it wouldn't be anywhere else to
stop so i would have Chick-fil-A uh how late
is Chick-fil-A open um i think they're up until
nine or ten but like uh it's 45 minutes home
by the time i got everything's closed uh and it would
be you know time to not eat you know what closes pretty late uh
In-N-Out, In-N-Out Burger
closes like around one i think
on the on the weekends too yeah Carl's Jr. have been pretty
late too which is although it depends In-N-Out's regional
and any of these places like i've seen
24-hour Carl's Jr. yeah i've seen 24-hour like Taco Bells
and i've seen Taco Bells that
close at like 8 p.m. sure and uh there i don't know about you
but to me there's something about
eating a hamburger like at 3 a.m. yeah
that makes it taste amazing i don't know what it is if i'm
up that late for whatever reason uh it's amazing i love
a late night hamburger uh so the queso from
Del Taco also a win i would say the queso
from Del Taco was because especially if you eat it
right after i mean it was like a week
or two after i had the chipotle queso which was bad
the queso from Del Taco was great i find myself getting
the Carl's Jr. five dollar box a lot this
year me too we should probably do that for a future episode
but um yeah because it's it's
it's fairly new it's come out in the last yeah it's
on the like the list and i gotta tell you it's
a big hit because i see it advertised everywhere
um so i assume that's a big hit i don't know if
that's i assume and everyone that i know
that eats carl's jr can't stop raving about it what
do you normally get uh i usually get the first one uh
because it comes in that one comes with
the cheese double cheeseburger the cookie uh fries a drink
and a hot dog yeah uh the hot dog
you know you can't rave too much about it's
not the first time carl's jr has had a hot dog at
the restaurant no they've always had
that all-american picnic burger they cycle it in every
once in a while oh that thing was a monstrosity
that was a monstrosity yeah but look at it i
didn't eat mustard yeah looking
at it gave me diarrhea yeah did you ever have it no my friend
anthony did though and he has nothing kind
to say about it i don't think he's been inside of carl's
junior since oh wow yeah i i ordered it once
didn't like wasn't crazy about it i got the next
time with no pickles or mustard
and it was better i don't know it's just it's like it's a cheeseburger
with a hot dog on top of it it's it's unnecessary is what it is um uh
but the bun the bun was like
a little dry on the hot dog in the in the five dollar box
but usually when i'm getting it it's
like right before work and i work like uh it's a night shift we'll see
so yeah like you you want
like usually when you're like you're starting
work like it's it's like it's like i should have
eaten and then halfway through work is like i should
also be eating yeah uh because it's just
at that weird time of day where you like should just two meals should
be split sure so i'll take
the hot dog throw in like the fridge
and then heat it up in the microwave with a cup of water
the bun to be a little less
dry and
effectively steaming it
it's a hot dog
there's not much to rave about
I think a hot dog
cookie's good, cookie's great
you can't go wrong with a cookie
unless it's mother's cookies which are awful
they taste like sadness
the only thing they're good for is
please take this dollar
away from me, I have too many dollar bills
it's good as building material
or like oh if you have like a home intruder you can throw
those like oatmeal iced ones at them
they're as hard as rocks what do you get
the five dollar box i get the one that has the least amount
of food which is just it comes with fries
and onion rings and a double cheeseburger and a cookie
anything and um i like the onion rings a lot i kind
of rediscovered onion rings because of it
i tried to get that one once
and they were like we don't understand what you're talking about
onion rings in a five dollar box well
because they have the numbers now so i i just ordered my number
uh but i guess you might have
been at a particularly difficult Carl's Jr yeah and they
ended up like i'll give you a side onion rings
and then i don't know what here's what i do here's
what i do to hack it it's my this is my cool hack
because i love the Famous Star with cheese
that's a pretty perfect burger as far as i'm concerned
but the double cheeseburger you can
approximate the famous star if you ask them to add lettuce
and tomato and they're more than happy to
do that sometimes they charge you sometimes they
don't okay i guess it just depends on who's you
know running the the cashier uh
and and that and that'll give you a pretty close approximation to
a Famous Star it's a little bit smaller than
a Famous Star yeah no pickles uh no oh i forgot
about the pickles doesn't it come
with pickles i don't think it does come with pickles i want to
say carl's carl's junior is like the only place
that'll use sweet pickles right i don't know what
kind of pickle it is i know it's a pickle
but i don't know what kind of pickle it is or at least
they used to i don't know i haven't got i usually get
the famous uh the western bacon cheeseburger
or the big carl because i've become big carl's great i like
the Big Carl almost as much as I
like the Big Mac which I think is what they're
the answer to it I remember the commercial for
the Big Carl was just like double meat double cheese
la la la la la because they're making
fun of the Big Mac song ah okay
because like I guess yeah I think it might have started with
To all the fatties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions,
and a bunch of seed bun, yeah.
Yeah, the Big Mac has its own song.
Yeah.
And they're like, we don't have a song.
But it's infectious, too.
They're like, we have a song to double the meat, double the cheese,
la la la, la la la.
That's not always a selling point, as far as I'm concerned.
No, but if you're wanting a lot of food, the Big Carl's like,
it depends, if I'm really hungry, I go for a Big Carl.
If I'm not really hungry, I go for a Western Bacon.
Cool, cool, cool.
and then
this was a crazy
good year for video games
oh yeah
especially if you
a Nintendo fan
if you're a Nintendo fan
you
it was so great
I mean
we're not going to touch
too much on it but
Breath of the Wild
yeah
Mario Odyssey
Metroid's back
those are probably
our number one games
yeah number one and two
probably
Breath of the Wild
and Mario Odyssey
and you know what
depending on what time of day
you ask me
it would switch
like
yeah
it really
Metroid was fantastic
Samus
yeah
oh my gosh
yeah
Samus Returns
she did return, and she wasn't in
a dumb Federation Force game.
It was a solid, what we wanted for like
ten years now. I think
yeah, they could have remade a different
game. I think they picked the weirdest
Metroid to remake. Yeah, but it was good.
It was still really good. Like, it probably
opened that game up to a lot more people. And did you ever
play that game? No. The original one? No. I played
like part of it. It's unplayable. I tried playing the
first Metroid too. Completely unplayable.
I played the first Metroid when it
came free on my 3DS.
I don't think I beat it.
No, it's...
Well, I played Zero Mission.
It stings the eye.
Well, Zero Mission, of course.
It's perfect.
That's a perfect game.
Because they took the best Metroid game, Fusion,
and they used its engine to make Zero Mission.
Of course.
Those are probably my two favorite.
Even still.
I think Fusion was the first Metroid game
that I really experienced as I came to it late.
And it's also, like, the last one in the timeline.
That's a good one to, like, start with.
Yeah.
It was very scary.
Yeah.
And it kind of...
Metroid...
Stardew Valley?
was released on the Switch
and we kind of fell in love with that again.
That was a lot of fun.
Sonic, a lot of
renaissances here.
Sonic Mania came back and it was good
and then I feel that
Sega might have squandered
all their loyalty with Sonic Forces
because apparently that was hot garbage.
Played a lot of Splatoon.
Splatoon 2 is fantastic, yes.
Oh, here's another thing
that we forgot to touch on.
What are you excited to play next year?
I can think of one thing right now
immediately
that's what I had in my head too
and I cannot wait to play that
I cannot wait to play that local multiplayer
I think we should probably take
a weekend like a Saturday
and just zip through it
I think that would be a lot of fun
get some snacks, get some food
and just zip through that game
I think it would be a lot of fun
I love Kirby
and the Kirby co-op games like Kirby Superstar
the one on the Wii I believe
was a co-op game as well maybe we'll do it
as a live episode hey we could do like a stream yeah
yeah we could do a you have a twitch stream
that you use right yeah yeah we could either
stream it on yours or start using a little more we can stream it
on youtube if we uh we're probably
gonna yeah we can we might see this episode is up
on youtube now if you're watching it on youtube
but these episodes are gonna go up if they're
not already yeah eventually just because i i've i've
realized a lot of people watch podcasts
on yeah around march you'll you'll see the episodes by
the time i get around to it no they'll go up soon they'll go up soon
um and i think we'll probably
stream from uh hammy cooks i think that'd be a great place to do it
and um you know maybe do a
kirby themed uh start the start the thing off like
a whole thing with like a with like a strawberry
shortcake and then eat the cake
while we're playing a kirby it'll be a lot of fun we'll have
a little slumber party with all you guys
um chick-fil-a i'm trying to see if i want to take
all the boxes is there any other game that you want
to play uh next oh uh well tentatively we're
gonna get that switch pokemon game yeah maybe maybe
but at least we'll know what it is yeah
we'll definitely know a lot more about it i would
i would totally be excited for that i can't wait
to see that what that's gonna be i think
that whatever we have in our heads it's not gonna be
it i think it's gonna be completely out
of left field i know we're not a nintendo gaming podcast
so I'm going to step out of the Nintendo
I'm really excited
for that Spider-Man game
that's coming to consoles
it looks as good
as the last good Spider-Man game that I played
with Spider-Man 2
people talk about it
some of the swinging mechanics
and stuff that they're doing in the new Spider-Man game
just of what we've seen
early on looks as good as
Spider-Man 2 and so I'm really
stoked about that
I'm still like a dumb idiot crossing my fingers for Mother 3.
I don't think it's ever going to happen, but I'm still hoping for it.
I'm still wishing upon a million stars.
Did the ARMS guys super troll you with that?
The ARMS guys?
Yeah.
Remember when ARMS came out and they were doing the E3 tournament?
And the announcer was like...
Oh yeah, that was horrible!
He was going...
Mother!
he got you this could you know what it might
be a long con it might be like they're just waiting
you came to me and you
were like mother three confirmed he said it yeah go to this point in
the video you were like yeah what's the kubrick thing
the conspiracy yeah it was like room 222
you were like giving me your pins and strings on yeah
and uh why would he say it why would he say
if it's not real yeah because he
because we're we're the easiest we're the biggest we're the
biggest cat's paws in the world just you have recipes saved up
for it i do they're on my hard
drive and i'm i'm i don't want to i here's
the here's the whole thing i i want to upload them
but i i know that you know like Earthbound Zero
was called Earthbound Beginnings right okay so i
don't think Mother Three is going to be called Mother Three
if it ever comes out um so like i
I want the branding to be right on the video.
So it's purely capricious.
I got a fancy new controller called the Super NES Pro,
although I got the Super Famicom Pro
because it's got the rainbow buttons on it.
And it works on the Switch.
It works on PCs and Mac.
It works on your iPhone.
It works on your Super NES Classic.
And it's got future functionality for pretty much any, you know,
So this company, 8-Bit Do,
they make these controllers and they're, you know, these kind
of universal controllers for every system.
I love it.
It's basically if a Super Nintendo controller
and a Pro controller had a baby.
Okay.
Because it almost has, it's got those two, like, directional buttons.
Are those, no, what are they called?
Control sticks.
Control sticks.
And left sticks.
That are in the same place that, like,
they would be, like, on a PlayStation controller.
Okay.
But it's like a regular Super Nintendo controller.
Like one of these.
like one of those
like one of those
fancy
super
just in our
in our fancy
gaming group studio
I happen to have
this
playstation controller
playstation controller
I cannot wait to play
that Kirby game
Yoshi looks okay
I think Yoshi
I don't know if I wanna
I don't think I'm gonna
I might borrow it
like if somebody
gets that
that's what I was thinking
I'll borrow it
because it seems like
mostly single player
if I had like a
like a little cousin
or a nephew
who I could
like share that game with yeah that would probably be better
because it seems like a very
child-oriented game now there's anything wrong
with that no no it's just definitely a place for
those games it's still pretty low-key
and not that not that interesting it looks very minimalist if
i was a huge yoshi fan i'd probably get it
but i'm more of a kirby fan than yoshi fan oh yeah way
more um is there anything you're expecting
is there anything you're hoping for because i don't
think we're gonna see zelda no we don't we don't need
to see zelda um we just had zelda then it's
you know we have all this dlc coming out yeah
that's coming that's come out um and mario again
probably not going to see mario no 2017
was so satisfying i don't like 28 i'm i'm i will ride
2017 yeah got a huge wave on my because we know that kirby's coming
and we know Pokemon's coming
so that's kind of yeah well
and i don't know was it confirmed 2018 holiday what pokemon oh no no
we don't know if it's coming out in 2018
but we are they did say they're going to tell us about it
okay yeah but it could they said that it might
be coming out in 2018 i'd like them to take their
time with it yeah they're gonna make
a good game definitely definitely um i want to see a follow-up
to Stardew Valley well i would the multiplayer patch oh
that's right we're gonna see that i
think they're they're making that for the Switch
and that'll like we'll we'll be playing that again
because uh yeah i think it works
that uh you can create it's kind of like a Minecraft local
local Minecraft server that people can connect to your game
and then they can only like access
like your farm they can build stuff on your farm that's cool uh
but like all the stuff and you're
like yeah they can't go mess up your town
or uh mr i'm gonna steal your girl Metroid Metroid Prime
four we're probably gonna see
that we did i mean we uh they they won everybody yeah with just that
yeah oh with the number four background and number four
and i would love it love it love it if uh
Beyond Good and Evil 2 came to uh the Switch yeah i don't know
if it will uh i know that uh what's
his name Michel, the guy who develops it who
also develops Rayman, I know he's a big Nintendo
fan, I know that he you know if there is and that's
the cool thing too, I think we're gonna see
we saw an a huge increase near the end of the year
for Switch uh support, like people just
pouring their games, you know what I think they're gonna
be also Smash Brothers, oh I forgot about
Smash Brothers, how could you forget about Smash
Brothers, well I mean we are about due for it yeah
If you're going through the regular timeline...
I think they're going to find a way
to make GameCube controllers work on the Switch.
Or they're going to find a way to use the same thing they used
for the Wii U, the little GameCube controller adapter.
Well, let me ask you this.
Do you think it's going to be a new Smash Bros.,
or do you think it's going to be a port of Smash 4?
I think if they were going to make a Smash Bros.
DX, like they did with Mario Kart 8 and Pokemon Tournament,
I think that we would already have it.
Okay.
I think if that was the case, we'd already have all the DLC.
Because that game coming out, all the DLC is a deluxe version.
People would buy all that.
That'd be crazy.
But I think they're going to make a Smash 5.
Okay.
Because they made Smash 4, which is what I've been calling it.
What year did that come out in?
I want to say 2013.
Yeah, I want to say that too.
2013.
But also, they came out concurrently on the 3DS.
Yes.
and the Wii U Nintendo's been consolidating uh their handheld games
and their their uh their
console games they made a console we'll see a follow-up to the 3DS
because the 3DS is eight
years going uh we already saw a follow-up
to the 3DS it's called the New 3DS I'm talking like new
system though i don't think
so i think they're gonna move everything over to the Switch okay
like that's i'm not i'm not an industry expert i know
but do you think they're going like one
console yeah i wouldn't hate that i wouldn't hate
that at all i think remember when Sony tried to
make a portable console yeah
and Nintendo was like well people you know people bought the portable
console though so that they could port Nintendo
games onto it they turned it into like a walking
emulation system yeah um i think yeah i think
because the Switch is a handheld system i think
they're gonna consolidate all their resources
and game development i wouldn't hate that neither
So would I, because I already own a Switch.
Yes.
Do you think, because we just got Animal Crossing,
do you think we're going to get a new Animal Crossing in the next year
for a console Animal Crossing?
Maybe, but I wouldn't buy it.
I like Pocket Camp.
I stopped playing Pocket Camp.
I noticed.
I'm probably going to get back into it eventually,
but it's just not doing it for me anymore.
I've definitely slowed down playing it.
I haven't tried the new update.
The new update looks pretty cool.
Yeah, if I log in once a day...
Have you been doing the Christmas stuff?
Yeah, I've been doing the Christmas stuff.
So I got the Christmas outfit, and I'm trying to get the, uh...
I want to deck my camp out in Christmas stuff.
Okay.
I just, uh...
I want a console game.
I want an old...
I want to capture that magic from the GameCube days.
Well, the GameCube, like, I don't know, that game stole your life.
Yeah, it did.
And the Animal Crossing games are in real time,
so there's an infinite, like, you can't stop playing them.
You have to constantly play them.
I like the mobile game.
I like Animal Crossing as a mobile game.
I think it was always going for that,
and it always should have been that.
It's fine.
I was logging in for about 10 minutes,
going to the shovel, doing all the fun stuff.
I want to play it for hours.
I want to stay up all night playing it for hours,
and I don't think I'm ever going to get that again.
Out of Pocket Camp, you definitely won't get that.
Not out of Pocket Camp,
but definitely out of a future Animal Crossing.
Any other last-minute predictions that we're going to make for 2018?
oh i don't know it's gonna be hard to top 2017
as a year for gaming they might not top it i think
i think there's gonna be some great games on the horizon
though i there's a there's a there's like
a good handful of indie games that i'm following
that i can't wait to come out um and then just
like i said the big i think pokemon's gonna blow
our minds i think pokemon might be i hope it does
i'm like i'm not getting my hopes up
or looking too much into it because i want i want it to smack
me right in the face. Yeah. But we're probably
going to get a direct.
In January. We'll get a Pokemon Direct.
In January. Well, I mean like a general, just a general
direct in January. You're right, they haven't done one in a while.
They said that, I think they did say we're going to
touch base in January. Sweet.
Again, I'm, hey,
Mother 3, I'm putting that on my bingo card.
Don't put it in the middle. No, no, no, no, no.
It's going to go off to one of the corners.
But other than that, I'm looking forward to
next year. I'm looking forward to
continuing this podcast. I enjoy it.
It's kind of this weekly thing that we do,
and I'm starting to get into the pattern of it.
I like going out to eat.
I like rating food.
It's a lot of fun.
We haven't gotten a lot of fan mail.
No, but we'll...
Maybe we should drop the email again.
I mean, it's always in the description of the episode.
