All right. This is a fun event that you just might want
to get in on this. Local celebrities
hitting the stage to show off their best lip sync skills.
The lip sync battle benefits the
New Day Foundation, which helps families facing cancer.
Here with more co-founder and president
of the New Day Foundation, Gina Kells-Spain.
And look at this guy. Look who just rolled in.
Darren McCarty's here. I haven't been here in like two weeks.
I know. This is your home away
from home looking cool too i like this i like
this look this look yeah it'll be a little
different for tomorrow no red hair no uh
this little tone down a little tone down you're ready
for competition the hockey team hasn't deserved
the regular right they don't get red hair darren
until you do some stuff making a statement
um let's first let's talk about new day foundation
real quick because that's what this is all about it
is this is what this is why we're here and
Darren and I were talking in the back,
you know, families when they're going through cancer
need all the help that they can get.
And we were just talking about Dan Miller
and that whole story.
I mean, what we're here to do is provide families
with the financial stability that they need
and the emotional support that they need.
So we provide, you know, housing, utilities,
transportation, things that they actually can afford
when they're not living with cancer
and they're able to work full time and do all those things.
So that's where we step in.
think you can relate a lot you know with what you've
been going through is that and I realized
this 30 years ago when the McCarty Cancer Foundation
was formed yes the person with
cancer and they need you know the diagnosis
and the treatment and stuff but there's families and
there's bills and there's everything else
so why I love being involved in New Day Foundation is
because they focus on those other things that are still
so important in life and be able to give
back. And also, too, you get in a room, right, where you're not alone.
There's other people
going through your same struggle.
So I think in life, when we feel like we are separated and it's
only us going through it, it's really hard to do.
So, you know, shout out for what they do for
people. You're absolutely right.
I mean, the emotional, you know, the nuts and bolts of it
is really important. Paying the bills is important
and helping with all that. But the emotional
connections. So significant. Okay.
So this is a fun way to raise money for New Day. I know it's
very popular. So we have some video here.
Explain how this works and are people practicing? There's
a dance routine. How's it go? Yeah.
I mean, every performer gets to pick their song.
They can bring in all the props
and all of the background dancers and whatever they want and
use whatever resources are available.
I mean, we've had people pull in, you know, the Lions
cheer team and and pistons dancers
and another legit it is legit i mean it's a really fun night
it's super entertaining
and the whole point of this is we're going to have a lot of fun
for something that's really serious
so it's a little bit of silliness to you know support
what's serious by the way there's the website
if you want to get tickets right foundation for
families.org okay we still have great seats in the balcony available
and we have an afterglow
as well if you want to all right tomorrow night it
is tomorrow night okay so tomorrow night darren
mccarty and now have you done this before uh
the best part for everybody is that it's a lip sync
so you don't have to hear me sing so um no i haven't
but uh i'm confident in what i'm gonna
do i'm we know you're confident always i'm
not gonna try to steal the show it's my first time
here i'm honored to be the first red wing
or first hockey player to be invited to do this well you
You still have to represent, though.
Oh, I will represent.
Don't you worry.
Are you allowed to?
I don't know how much is supposed to be a surprise.
Can you tell us what song that you're lip syncing to?
Well, I will give you a clue.
One of my favorite bands is Motorhead, so it'll be a Motorhead tribute.
Okay, a Motorhead tribute.
Darren McCarty style.
He's going to rock a little bit.
We have a lot of dance numbers, and we have some people
who really like their choreography,
like Jackie Page from WWJ.
Yeah.
Joanne Purton's coming back this year.
she's you know but this is going
to be a lightning bolt moment i can't wait okay we got to get a
camera there okay tickets still available few
tickets still available raising money really
good cause the new day foundation guys it sounds
so fun thank you for coming in thank you thanks
for having us i'm afraid to say break a leg to a hockey player
but well i'm not playing anymore
