Great Wolf Lodge Homicide: Woman charged with killing husband, son at Poconos resort

We do want to turn our attention now to the Poconos because it's a tragic case at the Great Wolf Lodge. Great Wolf Lodge. A lot of people know about that. A lot of people go on vacations from this area, head up there to the Poconos. Well, it sounds like a 27-year-old Bradford County woman is now charged with killing her husband and 3-year-old son inside a guest room at the resort. Police say she called 911 and was found injured. Her husband and child were found dead in the room. I mean, it's just a horrific and shocking case. We want to check in with Ryan Hartnett. He's with Fox 56, our sister station out there in the Poconos. Ryan, you were working this case yesterday. Can you talk me through when you get a call like this? Yeah, Dan, thanks for having me this morning. We got the call around 12 o'clock yesterday that there was a double homicide that took place on Monday evening at the Great Wolf Lodge in Pocono Township. So we raced up there to the Poconos to talk with authorities. We got a statement from Great Wolf Lodge saying that all information should be redirected to the Pocono Township Police Department. And luckily, a couple hours later, around 3:30, Pocono Township Police, along with Monroe County District Attorney Mike Mancuso, Mancuso provided a press conference sharing details about this case that took place on Monday evening at the Great Wolf Lodge involving 27-year-old Melico Rose Harrison killing her three-year-old son and her husband. It's just a very tragic scene, and we are still uncovering more details from this investigation that authorities say it's still very much in its early stages so we don't know whether or not there was a motive we don't know whether or not uh there was anything that led up to this double homicide but still it's a very lengthy investigation we're still getting more info from authorities and Ryan can you talk us through um just just just to give this a little context i think a lot of people down here in the city and the jersey suburbs and they do take vacations up to the the great wolf lodge and and some of those other spots up in the Poconos. Can you sort of just explain to us what this place is? What is the Great Wolf Lodge? Yeah, the Great Wolf Lodge, it's a northeastern Pennsylvania staple. It's a water park, hotel. It's basically a resort here in the home of the Pocono Mountains with folks from not only northeastern Pennsylvania, but all across the state of Pennsylvania and throughout the northeast, even from different parts of the country. They'll make their way here to the Pocono the mountains. As you can see, there's water slides there. That's a big, big part of the Great Wolf Lodge. Their indoor water park is one of the best in the country. Now, this double homicide, it took place in one of the guest rooms there on the property. So this was under investigation. It was an isolated incident. So this was something that was not in one of these main areas of the Great Wolf Lodge. It was a isolated incident, so there's no threat to the public safety but really the Great Wolf Lodge is kind of a big big thing here in the winter months when the winter weather gets colder and folks want to have you know that sort of summer fun they get to go to the Great Wolf Lodge enjoy all the hospitality there from the water park to all sorts of entertainment there at the Great Wolf Lodge complex yeah exactly right i mean you said it um just as we wrap up here uh what do we know uh about the mother here the mother who's accused of killing her her her child and um and her husband it sounds like she was obviously taken into custody and then transported to a hospital for some kind of evaluation yeah so 27 year old Metallica Rose Harrison called 9-1-1 around 3 30 p.m yesterday telling authorities that she needed help committing suicide and at the time her husband and her son were already deceased in the room at that time so when authorities got there she expressed that she she didn't want to be here anymore expressing her suicidal ideations so authorities realized that the deceased man and the deceased child were in the hotel room on the bedroom floor one on a mattress on the floor and the other on a childlike mattress as well so authorities are still trying to figure out if there's a motive. She expressed her frustrations in the ambulance that she did not wanna be here and this was not how it was supposed to end. So really, this is a complex case. We don't know if anything led up to this and authorities are still providing that information to us about this case, which has several other layers to go with 80 to 90 pieces of evidence recovered at the scene of the crime there at the Great Wolf Lodge in the Poconos.
