Loved being a mom, and she loved being my daughter.
You know, she really did.
A grieving father shares an emotional tribute
to his daughter, who police say was beaten
and killed by her husband. Good evening, I'm Claudine Wong.
And I'm Mike Maybach. It has
been more than 10 days since Jasmine Garcia was killed,
allegedly at the hands of her husband,
right in front of their children.
Now, Jasmine's father is speaking out about what happened
in the hopes of saving someone else.
KTVU's Anna Rubin joins us live
from San Jose with the story tonight. Ann?
Yeah, Jorge Garcia says maybe
in hindsight he saw some signs of stress in the home,
but nothing that would have made him think
that his daughter was in serious danger.
The pain of losing his daughter Jasmine is fresh,
so Jorge Garcia says he needed to speak out about her murder.
He says loved ones didn't realize there
was trouble at home until it was too late.
She was probably showing me, but she didn't say anything.
So that part, I regret.
It was October 3rd when Roy Lopez showed up
at Good Samaritan Hospital with Jasmine's body
saying he had killed his wife.
Authorities believe he did it the night before in their
Morgan Hill home in front of their three children.
For him to ever show signs of being abusive or
being, I didn't see that of him, you know.
He was a loving father. He loved his kids.
The kids aren't fully aware of what has happened.
The 14 and three-year-old are staying with
relatives. Seven-year-old Aaron is in the hospital battling
a rare brain tumor. Jasmine called him
her miracle. She was well aware of his you know of what might happen
but she didn't you know she
never gave up. She wasn't going to give up
and to this day we're not going to give up. The family
is close-knit and they say their faith will help them through this.
They hope Jasmine will be
remembered as tough and humble.
The kind of person who nurtured everyone and was devoted to her
children, the San Francisco 49ers and to God.
I've been really strong because of my daughter
and I know that she would, you know, want me to be strong for her.
And he says she would want
others to hear her story, speak up and get help.
You know, that's all I want, you know, is for my
daughter to know that she made a difference in somebody else's life,
you know, save somebody
else. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the children.
The family says they are extremely
grateful for all the support they've received so far. Claudine, Mike.
