Dan Quinn, in hindsight, this was as big
of a coaching disaster and as big of a football
blunder as you could possibly have.
The fact that the Commanders had the football with 50 seconds left,
like when you go through
the timeline, it's on the screen, okay?
The timeline, the game is tied.
Washington is at the 24-yard line for the New York Giants.
There are 50 seconds left with no timeouts.
the clock gets spotted the sorry the ball gets spotted
and the clock runs the next time that
Jayden Daniels snapped the football after
the ball got spotted with 50 seconds left was with 12
seconds on the clock like there were a multitude
of opportunities to stop the clock spike the ball
throw the ball out of bounds you could you had no timeouts
and everyone was lollygagging around
When they snap the ball with 12 seconds,
if they had run a quick out pattern, if they
had thrown the ball away, if they had done something,
the clock would have stopped.
The thing they could not do was run the football
and then not get back on the ball extremely
quickly because Jayden Daniels snaps the ball.
He runs around and he realizes, wait, I don't know what to do here.
And then he goes down like it's in college or something.
He gets a first down and the clock's going to stop.
He goes down.
The clock keeps running.
The Giants run off the field.
And after the game, Dan Quinn
is blaming himself, saying that's all on me.
All that comes through me.
How did they not kick the game winning field goal?
It is one of the most egregious coaching mistakes.
It's one of the most insane endings in the history of the NFL.
When you really go back and watch that and you piece it together
and you go play by play
and step-by-step as to how the Commanders got into that position
and how they were unable to
do something very, very basic. Stop the clock.
There were like 15 different things they could
have done to stop the clock.
They chose the one that would have run the clock out and the
quarterback and coach did not realize what
was happening with 50 seconds left. That is an unreal
amount of just being disconnected from reality
when you really go back and watch that and you
really go through all of it it is one
of and i'm 49 years old i can't remember an end of game
situation be that poorly run by an NFL franchise
if we were watching a high school football playoff
game and that happened that'd be one of those things
that would be on SportsCenter and we'd
watching it going like damn high school kids man didn't realize
the clock was running oh my gosh
that's how the game ends oh that's awful
this is the NFL these coaches are paid millions and
millions of dollars to know what they're doing head coaches
and quarterbacks are extremely
well compensated because they're supposed
to be smarter football wise than anybody else and you're
supposed to prepare your players Dan Quinn has
his job today i can't believe Dan Quinn has his
job today they're one three and one
and after that i don't know how in the world you walk into
that locker room and feel like our head coach
is on the ball like our guy our head coach understands
what's happening all the coaches
are on the chopping block in my mind everyone you're like
wait it's not just Dan Quinn
although Dan Quinn is taking the bullet for everybody it's the entire
coaching staff.
