Don Mattingly gets signed to a two-year deal.
He's coming back to Philadelphia.
I think that's great news for everyone involved.
But, again, a lot of this is because not once
but twice Dombrowski and company got told no by Cora.
So, interesting, the maneuvering happening there.
But I think, yeah, you can
do a lot worse than Mattingly coming back for two years.
That's for sure.
Yeah, their pitching is really good.
They still have very good hitting.
it's whatever you know recipe is in their dinner per se it smells
so good when it comes out
of the oven and at the end it just doesn't doesn't taste
as good as you thought i don't think that
has anything to do with Mattingly i think it just has
to do with the complexion of the team
and i mean in the end when you take really take
a big step back is it just that joe the phillies
have just been unlucky because i look at them on paper
and i wonder to myself okay so if you decide
to move on from Trey Turner or Bryce Harper
or Schwarber or Christopher Sanchez is that really
the right move i don't know that you're gonna come back
from that you know like and that's what
they're sort of suggesting has to be done
is something has to change there because it hasn't
worked and they've been doing this for five years agreed
but what's the flip side to that what
exactly do you want to you want to be the Mets
is that is that what you want to do okay you want to
give that a shot see how that goes
so as frustrating as it may be for Phillies fans
i have to say because of Sanchez and Wheeler
and Lozardo and that pitching fix your bullpen again
if you can add a couple of players to the lineup in the mix
and you got to run it back and try
again i don't i don't see a better scenario out there
that's not like free agency is amazing this
year either lockout aside great free agency
doesn't have it has like two or three really good
players that's it this isn't a mega year for it
no it's not and you know they're not getting harper's
not getting any younger none of those guys
are getting any younger so uh the opportunity
two-year deal i mean they fix the bullpen i think
if you can fix the bullpen and maybe get a couple
i don't know what their farm system is like right what what
do they have in the farm middle of the
road they have a couple of guys who who could help
but i i think a team like that if they decide to
fight again which i i suspect it will would have
to i think via trade would be it like like the guy
that the guy that they can move
on from who may you know need another uh place to play and that
they could replace and you could see it working out
for both would be Trea Turner trade Turner because
turner you know he didn't really have
a great year he hasn't he's been a good philly he hasn't
been a great philly he was yeah like i like i i
could see some teams saying let's buy low a little
on him but we'll give up a significant piece where you guys can go
and get a new shortstop
get that figured out i could i could
and then the Dodgers could could say to everybody well
look what we did we traded Turner this is you know part of it
but but we all know that's going
to require uh more than that but you're right they're
not getting any younger my buddy JT behind
the plate Schwarber Harper uh Wheeler like Nola i mean
this is not this is not a young team
But this is one of those
Be careful what you wish for
And all they have to do is look over at the Mets
And say, okay, if you really want to reconfigure this
And trade Pete Alonso
Or let Pete Alonso go trade Brandon Nimmo
And say, let's try something different
Dombrowski, that'll be his last year as GM
That'll be it
Exactly correct
That would be the end of it
But, got a little continuity now
So I think the window of opportunity is still there
But they better figure
They gotta figure that bullpen out
They really, really do there.
And Mattingly, of course, his son's the acting GM.
So that should be fun watching all of that play out moving forward.
