Deputies investigate brawl at youth football game

Up at six. Check this out. An all out scrum at a children's youth football game happened this weekend in Winter Haven. And just as the fight was all starting here, what was perhaps as startling as the fight is maybe what started it. Let's go to Fox 13's Carla Byron. I spoke with Sheriff Grady Judd about it and investigations now underway to find those who are responsible. Sheriff Grady Judd says parents are supposed to teach kids the right way to behave. But this just sent the wrong message. Football game with eight year olds. The Winter Haven Tigers against the Plant City Colts at a field adjacent to the Polk County Sheriff's Office central substation. Polk County deputies say after the game, a parent hit the Plant City coach in the head, sparking an all-out scrum. Eventually, it was broken up once police started arriving on scene. While this is still being investigated, the sheriff says someone told deputies it may have all started over an argument because parents were betting on the game. If you're at these youth sporting events, whether it's Little League baseball, whether it's football, soccer, and you're gambling on these teams, we are going to go undercover and look for that conduct. And we will arrest you before quick if you're doing that. That's totally inappropriate on every level. If they were gambling, there could be additional charges, although investigators don't have any evidence or video of it right now. No one has been arrested yet, but the sheriff says if they find out who started this, You can bet they'll be charged with either a fray or disorderly conduct, which are both misdemeanors. In Polk County, Carla Byron, Fox 13 News.
