I've got this breaking news just coming through.
It's a school roof which has collapsed
in the Pakistani city of Peshawar,
killing 29 people now, including students and teachers.
Ambulance and rescue workers have rushed to the school
where more than a dozen other people were also injured.
Other volunteers are helping to clear
the rubble with buckets and baskets.
Kamal Haider is live for us in Islamabad.
Kamal, tell us about the rescue efforts thus far.
Rescue efforts are still underway at that school,
which is situated in Peshawar's Deer Colony.
This is a two-story building with about almost 300 students.
At least two classrooms saw the roof collapse on them,
according to the sources that we've been speaking to.
And therefore, those people that are killed,
they, of course, have been brought to the hospital.
About 40 people are also injured.
Some of them are in serious condition.
The death toll is likely to climb.
We have two female teachers, two female students amongst those killed.
This is a school situated, as I mentioned, in the center of Peshawar.
Most of the ages of these students is up to 13 years old.
And, of course, this is an ongoing situation.
Rescue efforts are still going through the rubble
to see if there are more bodies buried underneath.
Kamal, I think it's called the Lady Reading School there.
Do we know how the collapse came to happen?
Well, just a small correction.
It's the Lady Reading Hospital where these bodies have been brought.
The school is a private school.
And, of course, it is situated, it's called Al Khair School.
This is a private institution.
There are many private schools across the city.
These bodies have been brought to Lady Reading Hospital,
that is the largest hospital in Peshawar.
An emergency has been declared over there.
Every time there is a mass casualty incident, most of the people,
both the injured and the dead, are rushed to that hospital.
So, indeed, this is an ongoing situation.
Unfortunately, the foreign media is banned
from travelling to Peshawar under new restrictions.
They need special permission.
So, so far we have been relying on our sources in Peshawar
who have been sending us the video as well as information and updates.
Kamal, thank you so much. Kamal Haider
there joining us live from Islamabad.
