This is how I use my acrylic skins leftover from my acrylic pours.
Follow Along,
I save a lot of acrylic skins and I wanted to show you how you could use them if you have some lying around waiting to be reused. One thing I love about these skins is that they are as unique as each of the acrylic pours they came from.
Let me know in the comments below how you would use your rescued acrylic skins.
Hi everyone!
In today's video I wanted to go over how I use acrylic skins to
make pendants and bookmarks.
So there are different ways that I save paint. There
are silicone baking mats that you can get.
I use them to save paint on because
the paint peels right off.
One thing that I also use quite frequently is freezer
paper and it's also called butchers paper
and it's this really shiny paper
that's actually used to wrap up things like meat
but the shiny side when you
let paint dry on it the paint peels right off
so you can see this is just
coming right off so then you can save the paint
and reuse it and then the
third way that I've used
or create skins is just right on canvas so this was just
a little painting that I did.
I didn't like the way that the painting itself turned out
just on the little square
so I just took the canvas right off of the wood frame and I can use
this then for just gluing pendants right onto it.
Just these are my skins that I picked out. I save
a lot. This skin is actually really old.
I think I've had this one for at least a year. High clarity
glass and craft glue and it dries clear it does state
that it's for jewelry and i also have some
glass domes that i will be gluing onto my skins
and then i have my various pendant trays that the
glass pieces will then be glued into so i just have my glue
and then i just have my little glass
dome. When I do this,
I like to kind of move my glass piece around to see what areas I really
like. You can just take your skin, look around at it.
I have a couple of different sizes of domes
because I have some pendant trays that are a little bit larger
and I'm just going to pick
my areas that I want to use and then just start gluing them down.
That's pretty. And then I just
do just a dollop of glue.
You could always keep some paper towels or an actual towel or a rag
and just have it to wipe up any of the excess glue.
So once I have my pendant down in the spot
that I want I hold it for about 10
or 20 seconds just to really get it adhered to the skin and then
I'm just going to move on and do another one here like this area
so we're gonna
do the same thing just hold that down
and then I'm going to set this one aside
and work on my larger skin here you can really reuse
a lot of your dried paint
and I just gently
push it helps remove
any air bubbles
that might be under
there
and also
again just to
get it glued
into the spot.
I'm going
to let all of
these dry and
we'll come back to this tomorrow and cut everything out
and then glue them into all of our pendant
trays. It's been about 24 hours since I glued all
of my glass pendants to my skins. They're all nice
and dry. So for this portion of the video,
I just have all of my pendant trays, my skins,
scissors, some paper towels
and a glove just to keep my hand clean from the glue
and a little bit of glue.
What I've actually started using is resin instead of another type
of glue to glue my pendants into the trays.
I was using some jewelry glue and I didn't like the way
that it was turning out. And for me, when resin's drying,
it gets really tacky and then it hardens
up. So it's just like an adhesive. So I'm using it as a glue.
I've been using it quite frequently
for a while now, and it works out well for me.
So if you don't want to use resin, any kind of glue,
I know E6000 is one that you can get at any craft store,
and that's a really strong adhesive.
there are other kinds I don't know
if some people could just use Elmer's glue or other types of
jewelry glue but use whatever you want
or whatever you're comfortable using and one thing I just put
the glove on when I'm using the resin just to keep it off of my hands
and then I have the paper
towels for any excess resin that may come out
from underneath the pendant tray but all I'm going
do right now is just cut all of these out
and then we will start gluing them in but i'll show you as
i cut this
out i'll get
these both
cut out and
just trim up
the edges a
little bit
one thing
you can do before gluing them in is just set
your pendant right in your tray and make sure that it's
going to fit if you have any pieces of like
this one was from canvas if you have any pieces of
canvas that are kind of sticking off
the side you can just trim them off but just make sure
that
it's
going
to fit
before
you
just
go
ahead
and
glue
it in
there
so i
have
all
of my
pieces
cut out and i've trimmed up the edges just a little bit
so that they'll fit right into my
pendant trays each of these are looking really nice i like
the way they all turned out i just
used a little stir stick and i put just a little tiny kind
of like a pea size or probably not even
that much on each pendant once you place the pendant in the tray
and then just kind of squeeze
it to hold it together all the excess will come out
and you really don't want to have too much
on there so just a really small amount you can always just scrape up
the rest and then i just
take my pendant tray and place it right
in there squeeze it a little bit and then i also kind of
move it around just to see which way i like the pendant
and then i just hold on to it for a second
a couple of seconds if i see any resin come out i just wipe it off
this one actually looks good
right now and then i just set that aside to dry
for another probably about a day before i add a
chain
or do
anything
else
with it
so we
will
just
continue
on with
the
rest of
these
so i'm
just
going to let all of these set and cure for the night
and then i will take some pictures but i
hope this was helpful i know you can do a lot
of different things with all of your leftover skins
and jewelry is just one of the things
that i really like making with all of mine
there's so many different pendant trays that you can find
and they just turn out so nicely so let
me know what you think in the comments below
also let me know if you have questions i'll try and
answer them to the best of my ability especially since i'm
not a professional jewelry maker
but these are just all the supplies that i use they work great for me
and as you can see everything looks pretty nice right now
but i'll get some better pictures
once they're all dry but don't forget to hit
that thumbs up if you guys like this video
and i will see you all in the next one thank you
so much for watching today
