AI GeneratedThe speaker discusses a poor defensive performance characterized by systemic failures. The defense struggled with poor vision and over-commitment to stopping the run, which left receivers uncovered in the end zone and made them vulnerable to play-action passes.
Everybody's talking about the quarterback situation, but I thought
the defense, I don't know if it's fair to call it a mess or not.
Guys running free in the secondary,
getting pushed off the ball quite a bit.
What did you see on film and what
were your discussions with Coach Walters on that?
We talked a lot about what happened.
We had very poor eyes.
We got caught up in trying to stop the run.
And when trying to stop the run,
I think everybody started playing outside the framework of the system.
And unfortunately,
that became probably our worst defensive performance.
And we put ourselves in a position where, you know, guys are not,
it wasn't like guys were covered and they made contested catches.
We had guys uncovered in the end zone
that we cannot have multiple times.
So, yeah, we spoke a lot about it.
We definitely believe that in a lot of scenarios,
this was a different type of game than these guys were expecting
or that they have played at before.
And because of that, it became very challenging
that they felt like they had to overextend themselves
to stop a run play.
And then next thing you know, you have bad eyes
and a play-action pass gets completed right over your head.
