New at six, we're learning more tonight about
the murder of a 16-year-old boy in Troup County
this week. Fox 5's Doug Evans has the latest on the investigation.
The Troup County Sheriff's
Office says 16-year-old Paul Smith was a passenger
in a car that pulled up to a house on Sims Road
Tuesday evening just before seven o'clock.
He apparently got out and there was an argument
with a man staying at that house.
They say that man was Hunter Smith and he opened fire on the
16-year-old and the driver of the car.
Paul Smith was hit twice and as the car sped away, deputies
say he fired another shot.
On Bass Cross Road, the driver called 911 for help and deputies and
EMS arrived to find Paul Smith unresponsive in the car.
He'd been shot twice. The driver was unhurt
from Bass Cross Road. An ambulance took him
to a LaGrange hospital where they say he died. Here's
what deputies are saying about the motive it appears there
was some type of verbal dispute
not really sure what that was over
at this point we're still gathering that information
but if it was a verbal dispute
and then at some point hunter pulled a handgun out and fired it
more than once and it struck our victim more than once
and then he got in the car there was also
another he also fired another shot from the yard
at the person that was driving the vehicle
Hunter Smith is not related to the victim.
Deputies say they've charged him with murder,
two counts of aggravated assault,
and possession of a firearm in the commission of a crime.
He's being held here at the Troup County Jail without bond.
