UN warns nearly 1 million in Gaza face flood risks as winter approaches

As winter approaches, time is running out. An estimated 950,000 people are living in areas with medium or high risk of flooding. More than 4,000 buildings in which people have sought shelter are at risk of collapse. We are working with communities to evacuate these unsafe buildings, but with the few alternatives available, families are often left with little more than a tenth. The government of Israel must ensure compliance. with its obligations under international humanitarian law and remove the current restrictions on critical aid. Are we to accept that we have no right to defend ourselves, no right to seek protection, no right to pursue justice, that dying is the only right left to us and if possible could we do it silently? Who among you would accept these terms for your own people? We have been reasonable beyond reason but we cannot surrender our humanity, our rights or our future to the power occupying and oppressing us. That is not how peace is achieved. That is how we go extinct.
