AI GeneratedThis news broadcast covers a wide range of topics, primarily focusing on the Bryson Fire in Malibu and the dangerous Santa Ana wind conditions affecting Southern California. It also reports on the Los Angeles Dodgers' postseason exit, various local crime and legal stories, entertainment updates, scientific discoveries, and automotive news regarding Toyota and Tesla.
Let's get right to some breaking news this morning.
We're taking you to the situation in Malibu.
Firefighters spending the night attacking a wind-driven fire
with ground crews and water-dropping aircraft with some success.
Right now, the Bryson fire has burned nearly 150 acres
since it started around 5 o'clock last night.
Containment now stands at 17%,
so firefighters are making some progress there.
Evacuation warnings are in place,
But currently, there are no reports of any injuries
or any structures burned.
Let's get right to Gigi Grassi.
She's live at the command center in Westlake Village with an update.
Gigi.
That's right.
And the morning shift is just coming in for the morning briefing.
They're going to be learning.
It's just starting right now.
They're going to be learning what the fire did overnight and,
more importantly, what the plan of attack is for today.
And that includes what the weather conditions are going to be.
we know those red flag warnings are still in effect.
And the wind and the higher temperature,
the low humidity, very much a centerpiece of this firefight.
So you're seeing they're just
getting started, the morning briefing.
You've got representatives from the Los Angeles County
Sheriff's Department, LA County Fire,
Ventura County Fire, and also Cal Fire. They are all
working together on the Bryson Fire.
Now let me go to some video and show you what the fire did
yesterday. It first broke out at about 4.40
in the afternoon in the hills above Encinal Canyon
and it quickly raced through heavy brush,
fueled by plenty of vegetation and driven by those
infamous Santa Ana winds.
This morning, as you mentioned, firefighters say they achieved 17%
containment and the fire is logged at just over 146 acres.
Keep in mind though, the morning
briefings underway and those numbers might change.
Now, yesterday there was quite the
scramble because there's a probation camp
in that area with about 38 teenagers. They
had to be moved, relocated to Sylmar.
Meanwhile, evacuation orders were issued. We're going
to talk a little bit more about those.
But let's talk about the conditions that firefighters
are facing this morning.
We spoke to LA County Fire about that.
And keep in mind here in Westlake Village, not
too far from the fire.
The temperatures at about four o'clock this morning were already at 81
degrees. Weather is still red flag conditions throughout Saturday
at least, which means it's
high winds 40 to 60 miles an hour,
low humidity with dry air and high temperatures today.
Now let's talk about those evacuation orders and warnings.
Several evacuation orders remain
in effect, including for the Trancas Lakes Drive area
and the Santa Monica Mountains
National Recreational Area.
And you've got those evacuation warnings.
If you're under one of those warnings,
basically that means be ready to go at a moment's notice.
There are also multiple road closures in the area.
We're talking about Canaan Road at Mulholland,
Mulholland and Westlake Boulevard, Decker
Road where it meets Las Chusa right there,
and then you go around the corner and it meets
Encinal Canyon. That is all shut down to traffic
to make room for the firefighters to come in and
out. Bringing it back here live,
you can see the morning briefing getting underway here. And at
8.30, we're going to bring you the latest information
that we get from the media. I'll
send it back to you. Right. Sounds good, Gigi.
Because of the winds and the ongoing fire threat,
thousands of local customers have had
their power turned off as a precaution.
Mario Ramirez is live in Malibu now with the latest on those shutoffs.
Mario.
Jen, Bob, tens of thousands of customers without power.
And we're talking about residential and business customers,
some of them in the dark right now.
Others trying to do everything they can to keep the power on,
like the Trancas Country Market.
They're actually opening here any minute.
They've got a diesel generator that is able to keep
this store open anywhere from two to three days.
They said that they've been prepared for these shutoffs.
We've been talking to residents in the area who say they
were alerted about two days before the Bryson fire started.
Now, a lot of these people, most
of them here sitting out front, they are without power.
Just talking to some of them who have generators,
others who are just hoping that the power comes on sooner than
those public safety power shutoffs are expected to last.
So take a look. Let's start with the conditions here in Malibu.
You'll notice the signs up and down PCH.
Here in Malibu, power shutoffs have impacted parts
of central and western Malibu.
and we've been feeling those strong winds building over
in Calabasas some electrical circuits have
also been shut off as a precaution Edison says
these shutoffs are necessary to prevent damage
power lines from sparking a wildfire
but for the residents out here and businesses that means major
disruptions no guarantee of when the power will
be restored crews have to first make sure that
it's safe before turning the electricity back
on those winds need to die down let's go to those
conditions in Santa Clarita
to the Inland Empire communities including Rancho Cucamonga, Fontana
And Upland also facing those powerful Santa Ana winds.
Gusts could reach up to 60 miles per hour in some areas.
With very low humidity and dry brush,
the fire danger remains extremely high.
Officials urging residents to watch for downed power lines.
Stay alert and be prepared to evacuate if necessary.
And let's get to these numbers because they've been growing.
Nearly 35,000 customers without power in L.A. County
and Ventura County.
The numbers spiked to nearly 35,000 as well.
That's an increase of about 2,500 customers since our last update.
So combined, there will be 70,000 without power.
Back out here live, we're looking at this Starbucks right now
at the corner of PCH and Trancas Canyon Road.
It is closed right now.
They've got a sign out front that says
because of the power outage, they are shut down.
So these guys are all without power, right?
You guys are all without power?
Yeah.
Okay, so tell me about that.
How did you prepare?
When did you get the notice for this?
I got back from surfing at 4.30.
My garage door opened, so I knew we had power then.
and by the time I got out of the shower, the power was off.
So what now? Do you have a generator?
We have no generator, but we have our grandchildren at our house
and my daughter-in-law, Kate, was there.
So that's the good thing.
Yeah, yeah.
And Johnny, let me ask you here.
I know you guys may recognize him.
He's from Breaking Bad here.
I'm not supposed to drop an F-bomb.
Yes, we've talked about this.
Thank you, Johnny.
I appreciate it.
So what are these power outages for you like?
It's incredible stress.
I lost my house in the Woolsey Fire, as it is for a lot of people here.
Yeah, it's one of the most wonderful places to live.
And obviously, it becomes one of the most hellish places to live.
Yeah, I know it can be with these powerful winds.
We've been feeling them growing here throughout the day.
Thank you, guys.
Peter, you want to say something about these powerful winds?
I mean, you're feeling it out here.
It's horrible.
It's no fun because you never know which way it's going to go.
And this one was a close one.
So here we are.
Well, thank you, gentlemen.
You're keeping the mood light.
So it's nice to talk to you this morning,
even though you're dealing with no power.
Wait, I got a question.
You have a question.
I'm sorry.
Let me make it quick.
Not even one F-bomb?
On that note.
Oh, my goodness.
That's amazing.
Mario.
That is amazing.
No bombs.
No bombs.
No bombs.
He's got quite that iconic voice.
He is the same character that he is on Breaking Bad.
He is the exact same person.
Jonathan Banks.
Yeah, yeah.
You want a cup of coffee, guys?
Quite a character, exactly.
We'll grab some coffee with you here in a second.
I was supposed to talk to Maria.
I don't know if she's still around.
I'm around.
Oh my god, I love being out here.
Mario, I screamed so loud when that camera pan from you to Johnny.
Mike, we all know his name is Mike, is Breaking Bad.
All right, that made the morning.
That was fun.
That was pretty cool.
Mario, make sure you, yeah, just chat with him some more.
You know, he's just that kind of guy.
You just want to talk to him all day.
We're going to see in Malibu.
Speaking of Malibu, good morning to you.
Of course, we're talking about that brush fire.
Looked at some wind gauges there just down the road in Malibu Hills.
Nearly 30 mile per hour wind gusts there.
But, of course, as you know, the fire creates its own weather and wind.
And generally, these winds are coming from the northeast,
as we have been talking about all week.
And it is gusty at the moment.
These are sustained winds,
22-mile-per-hour winds in Burbank, 24 in Camarillo.
Same for Ontario, so you know that those wind gusts are much stronger.
Currently, temperatures are warm.
These are Santa Ana winds.
And you know what happens when we get these winds out of the northeast.
It really warms up the atmosphere.
So we are at 80 degrees right now, Burbank,
81 in Santa Ana, 81 in Huntington Beach.
This is why we have those heat advisories that are in effect.
It is very early right now, and it is only going to get warmer.
And a lot of people don't have power,
as you just saw, so no way to power the AC.
So stay heat safe as well today.
81 in the high desert, 90 out in Palm Springs, 61 up
in the mountains eventually, gustier winds up in the higher elevations.
95 for the valleys, downtown LA, 93 today.
And look at the beach, low 90s later this afternoon.
All right, we'll talk more about these winds
and when they'll exactly die down and go away.
I'll have that in just a bit.
But first, let's go up to Stu in Sky Fox
and get a look at our traffic conditions out there.
And some, oh, Stu, Halloween decorations.
I hope everyone's brought them inside because of the wind.
Good morning, Maria.
Good morning, everybody.
Yeah, Sky Fox kind of staying out of the winds because I have
a feeling we're going to be doing a lot of wind stuff later.
That's going to be Irvine.
Not so windy down in the OC.
Let's talk about that five drive.
We have made our way over here to Irvine right by the 405.
Now, the taillights that we're seeing,
they've got some big problems up over by the 261.
We're going to go take a look at that in just a minute.
You can see that backup right there actually
starting way before you get to that problem.
Now, southbound, though, those headlights,
it is wide open, moving well through the Irvine area.
Northbound on that 5, give yourself a little extra time.
Maybe we'll talk about it on the next traffic hit.
Sending it back to you all in the studio.
Good morning.
Good morning.
The Great Park.
Thanks so much, Stu.
A season that began with hopeful dreams
of a three-peat ended ugly last night at Dodger Stadium.
Yep, sure did.
Roxy is here.
We were all texting each other last night after that big homer.
We were like, here we go.
In the downs.
In your face, brewers.
In the downs, yeah.
Are we wearing blue?
Are we not wearing blue?
Right.
I decided I'm going to wear blue.
You're loyalist.
You know what?
We're loyal.
We're loyal, yeah.
So we are going to talk about it, and then we're going to move on,
and we are going to focus about the future.
How does that sound?
It did seem promising if you were watching
the Dodgers actually had a four run lead at
one point, but it all fell apart
and we're going to spare some of the agony.
We're going to get right to the finish.
Here
we
go.
The Brewers will face either the Guardians
or Rays while the Dodgers head into the off
season with a bitter taste.
We didn't do our job,
we just got to do a better job the next time.
Just put this one away, learn from it.
I don't really want to take this for granted
for the opportunities to be able to play with
these guys.
But honestly, I think I'm just very disappointed.
I had a good conversation with the guys in there
and just told them how proud I was.
And I'm not used to those speeches, those consolation speeches.
The faces in the dugout, you see it right there.
Yes, you see it, the frustration, the real disbelief in all of it.
The fans now left wondering the same thing.
What happens?
I think that they left multiple players on board
and scoring position all throughout
the postseason.
I'm disappointed they lost,
but you can't say that they didn't have their opportunities.
So now the front office will begin
the painful process of how to fix what went wrong.
It was often said during the series
that the Dodgers were looking their age.
They are one of the oldest teams in the majors.
their players are already in their 30s,
Mookie's 34, Muncie 36, Freddie Freeman 37.
So you can be sure some moves will be made in the off season.
There's lots of love though for the guys
who won back to back championships obviously here.
It is a tough business, but again, it is a business.
It really is. It's not just sports
here. So who will stay, who will go, we'll see.
I was listening to Dave Roberts, obviously the
manager of the Dodgers talking and he was very gracious.
Of course, he congratulated the Brewers.
Yep. He said, listen, we just got beat.
They outplayed us. They out hit us, out pitched us.
Their defense was great. But that's how it goes.
Right. And and he said, you know, like you win as
a team, you lose as a team. In this case, we lost as a team.
But that's the magic of baseball. So
the uncertainty. Right. I mean,
we really thought for a moment this is going to be it. And then it
wasn't. Yeah. So that's just the highs and the lows.
That's what it means to be a fan.
They made it in the postseason, but yeah,
I mean, game after game after game.
That's a pretty brutal sweep.
Well, we did it twice.
We were confident.
Sometimes, I think it was also interesting,
he said they were hungry, but not just hungry, they were starving.
And I think that says it all.
Because when you want something so badly,
you go into it with a different kind of an attitude.
Right.
We move on and see what happens.
Boy, you guys got a lot to say about this.
You don't want to talk about it.
Excuse me, you were the one who was talking,
talking, talking yesterday.
If you look at all the interviews yesterday,
it's basically they all said this.
They're like, we lost.
Yeah, I mean, what else is there to say?
What are you going to say about it?
You can be disappointed.
Yeah, well.
Of course.
And that's okay.
You can't be disappointed.
It's part of life, Bob.
You can't ignore it.
All right?
It's there.
And then we move on.
You got to work through it and get over it.
After the break, we move on.
Take a look at this.
Merch produced from crime.
This is according to the LAPD and the district attorney.
They announced the arrests of an L.A. Department of Water
and Power employee
and three others in a year-long graffiti spree across the city.
Prosecutors say the group climbed tall buildings,
spray-painted their sides, and used drones to record the vandalism,
then sold merchandise featuring their graffiti.
graffiti, the damage to the buildings,
including historic structures, estimated at more than $172,000.
The suspects face up to 10 years in county jail.
After widespread criticism, President Trump has
reversed Secretary of War Pete Hegseth's decision
to live stream the firing squad execution of the
Fort Hood shooter. Trump wrote on social media,
quote, many very good and well-meaning people
would rather not watch him die.
Among many concerns, experts warned the live stream would
pose a threat to national security.
But others disagreed, saying it was a symbol that
could have made the world safer for Americans.
We know that there are a lot of sick people out
there who seek fame through violence.
And I'm afraid that it would encourage violence against
Americans. One thing Islamic jihadists
and others like that actually understand is power.
and that's a pure show
of American power more than 60 soldiers had already said they did not
want to be on the firing squad citing moral
and religious objections Nadal Malik Hassan is set
to be executed at Fort Hood
on December 3rd Congresswoman Ilhan Omar could face having her
U.S. citizenship stripped according
to the Wall Street Journal federal investigators are working
to build a case that could ultimately lead
to her deportation the report follows a federal search of
her Washington DC area home earlier this week.
Agents seized her phone and subpoenaed family members.
The Trump administration says Omar is under multiple probes,
including potential immigration fraud.
All right, 718, let's get over to Maria
for a check on this forecast.
We still have those high winds, look at that, wow.
Yeah, these are really remarkable numbers here.
Some of the wind gusts over the last 24 hours
have reached hurricane force strength winds.
Magic Mountain Truck Trail, where's that?
That's up in the mountains of Angeles National Forest,
about a few miles south of the 14.
So that's up in the higher elevations, but that is impressive.
Fremont Canyon out in Orange County, 69 mile per hour winds.
Chino Hills, 66 mile per hour winds there.
Lytle Creek, 56.
And even in Malibu, we're very close to where
that Bryson fire is burning, 55 mile per hour wind gusts.
We've got a big area of high pressure,
clockwise over there around that area of high pressure,
blowing in out of the northeast kind of blowing
in towards this area of low pressure offshore
and that is what's driving the winds very strong gusty
and that high will start to weaken late
tomorrow into sunday so we have those warnings
in effect until late tomorrow evening and then
sunday it'll still be breezy
but that high will be weakening we're actually going to tap into a
little bit of the subtropical moisture here
or at least from tropical activity simon is moving up
the Baja Peninsula weakening,
but we could see some showers out towards the desert communities
if you're headed that way this weekend.
Big area of low pressure, this is a cold storm.
This is going to bring us a big change
in our weather as we get into Tuesday, Wednesday,
Thursday, a chance for rain moving in.
This is great news for us and temperatures are really
going to drop. So you're going to grab that sweater,
at least sweater, officially I can say
sweater weather as we look ahead to next week.
In the meantime though, these very dry, hot
conditions will continue along
with very windy conditions and red flag warnings for
the fire danger will continue until tomorrow evening at 8 p.m.
Isolated wind gusts still expected anywhere
from 50 to 70 miles per hour.
Needless to say, downed trees, power lines still possible.
We have those power outages for safety issued by Edison.
So some of you may be watching us
from your phone somewhere at a coffee shop where there is
some power, hopefully, but thank you for tuning in.
97 in Inglewood today
so there's the heat 90 in sacramento 93 in san luis obispo to that 95
in indio all right let's go back up to stew
and sky fox get another update on our traffic before
you head out that door stew hey hey maria good
morning yeah we got some real traffic problems
out here and this traffic report i think
is brought to us by my home sold take a look at
that 5 drive northbound 5 Irvine this is going
to be at the 261 yeah they had an overnight
problem. Asphalt truck dumps some extra asphalt on the freeway.
Don't need it there, and it's
creating problems. You're squeezing down to one lane.
You can see it right there. This problem,
the backup is huge. But southbound, no reasons at all.
But take a look at that. Super slow and
going, that southbound as well.
And you are hitting the brakes from the 55 all the way down
here. Don't need to do this. Nothing to see.
Just keep that moving. But I guess they're not. Let's
take a look at some traffic hot spots.

Good
morning.
Welcome to Good Day LA.
It is Friday, 7:30.
Yeah, thanks for sticking with us.
We do have some news to tell you about.
We do.
Wanted to let you know about this.
We're just learning this.
These schools in Malibu are now closed this morning,
Malibu High, Malibu Middle School,
Malibu Elementary School, and Webster Elementary,
all closed because of these wind conditions,
because of the fire that's breaking out in Malibu.
So we'll keep you posted if anything else changes.
We also have Mario there as well.
Yeah, the power safety shutoffs there in the area as well.
So schools are closed for the day today.
All right, let's get to Mary with a look at the forecast.
No surprise there that they had to shut down those schools.
Not surprised, actually.
We do have some very dangerous conditions out there continuing today
because of these very strong gusty Santa Ana winds.
Here's a live look outside.
This is from our Mount Wilson camera.
The camera's not moving around too much here.
However, up into the mountains, that drive up
to the higher elevations will get you with those strong gusty winds.
We'll go over it in just a few moments, but weather headlines here
showing you that the red flag warnings are continuing in effect,
along with the wind warnings, advisories and heat alerts
on top of that as well will continue until tomorrow evening.
At least we've got these winds still coming out of the northeast,
25 to 45 miles an hour today.
Isolated gusts could get up to 50, 70 plus miles per hour.
And we do expect this to continue through at least the afternoon,
and then winds will start to wane just a little bit
as we get into the latter part of the evening hours.
It will be cooler as we get to Sunday.
That's the good news, and I think the winds will start
to really weaken as we get into early next week.
We are watching an area of low pressure that is going to bring in not
just a cooling trend, a shift in the winds, but also a chance for rain.
Yesterday, we warmed up to 92 in downtown L.A.,
and today we're looking at similar conditions.
We had a little bit of rain earlier this month,
but we could add another tenth to a quarter
of an inch of rain for the coast and valleys,
upwards of a half an inch or so for the mountains and foothills.
At least that's what the models are
pointing to now as we get into next week.
In the meantime, today, still hot and dry, 93 for downtown,
that sunset time coming up at 6:17 this evening.
Let's go up to Stu.
Let's get another update on the roads
outside before you walk out that door.
Stu, I see you're over a pretty nice-looking freeway here.
Where are you?
Hey, good morning, Maria.
You know, everything seems really nice today.
I've got to say that.
But let's take a look at that freeway indeed.
That's the 91 we're taking a look at, Buena Park.
And it is a nice freeway.
It's going to get that Friday light stamp for sure.
If you're headed east or westbound
on that 91 through the Buena Park area
and maybe a little bit into the L.A. and a little in the Orange County,
the ride looks fantastic.
No problems at all.
Everything looks like freeway speeds are better.
If you're driving by the foothills
or through those passes, though, be wary.
The winds are howling.
Sending it back to you all in the studio.
Good morning, Bob and Jen.
Good morning, Stu.
Okay, so entertainment is sponsored by Yamabawa Resort and Casino.
Now, you might notice that our set is all pink today.
Well, that is all thanks to their partnership
with Michelle's Place for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
We'll have more on that in the next hour.
Cool.
Okay, so if you're looking for something new to watch, this week's
releases in theaters and streaming have something for every mood.
From action to romance to political thrills and scary series.
Ashley Dvorkin joins us now live with a closer look at all of these.
Good morning, Ashley.
Good morning, Jen and Bob.
Listen, if you're in the mood for all
of them, you can check them all out.
There's so much to view this week.
But we start our look at what's new in theaters with a no-holds-barred,
star-packed, game-inspired action, Street Fighter.
This tournament is not what it seems.
Set circa 1993, Street Fighter follows
an estranged duo summoned to the next World Warrior Tournament.
Jay, you're going to just accept your fate now.
Book-to-screen survival thriller Whale Fall centers on a man searching
for his father's remains who gets swallowed by a sperm whale.
Police are sealing the building.
Crawlers unleashes arachnid-inspired scares
as a spider infestation puts an apartment building into lockdown.
What do you want to know?
Everything.
Margaret Qualley, Gabriel Basso, and Aaron Pierre
star in a story of love, loss, and healing with Love of Your Life.
I like him.
Daisy Edgar-Jones and Esme Creed-Miles
lead a reinterpretation of Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility.
Cameras follow Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes
before prison in You Can See Everything
from directors Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim.
On digital, the R-rated comedy Let's Have Kids
has Karen Gillan and Zoe Chao as lifelong best friends
whose pact to get pregnant at the same time
takes a chaotic turn.
Apple TV climbs Mount Everest
with Gendon Pusok and Tom Hiddleston in Tenzing.
Netflix adds the dark comedy Sacrifice
with Chris Evans and Anya Taylor-Joy
about an environmental gala-turned
cult-based hostage situation.
Political thriller series The Diplomat returns for season four.
Marvel's Vision Quest kicks off on Disney+.
Peacock ventures to Crystal Lake for a Friday
the 13th prequel with Linda Cardellini as Pamela Voorhees.
Some of us are meant to wear masks.
So all eight episodes of that are now streaming.
And I do recommend venturing to Crystal Lake if you
are seeking a scary series for Halloween time.
Jen, Bob?
It's the perfect time for it.
I love, I also love Linda Cardellini.
I watched her in DTF St. Louis.
That's right, yeah, she was really good in that.
I love that series, and I love her as an actor as well.
Yes, and she brings so much emotional depth to this.
Now, she plays Jason Voorhees' mom,
and this goes into the lore, into the backstory.
And so I feel like what she brings,
combined with how campy it is, it's very unique.
And so I definitely say check it out.
I've been saying it's for the campy, creepy Cardellini.
So that is definitely one of my top recommendations.
Have you watched this new version of Sense and Sensibility?
So the reinterpretation, as we were saying- Is it reinterpreted?
We talk about Sense and Sensibility way too often on this show.
Well- Okay, do you?
Yeah, all the time for some reason. I know, no, there are some of these
stories that they just keep bringing back
and somebody else has a vision and they wanna bring
it to the screen in some ways.
Reimagining, reinterpretation.
So, listen, if you're seeking,
I think that it's the only one in
that genre that's new this week.
So that's why I would say go for
it if that's what you're looking
for.
I mean, there's so
many original ones.
East of Eden,
he's on the East of Eden tip.
It's good.
He loves it.
I heard that's another popular
one.
I will also say Tenzing is
fantastic on Apple TV.
If you're looking for a film,
very inspirational, very beautiful, and The Diplomat season four.
I don't want to give
spoilers if you're not caught up.
So we'll just say that obviously the stakes are raised,
there was an international secret revealed.
But what I want to say about this show is that it
just keeps getting better and better, and it started out great.
So the acting's phenomenal,
and I say season four is even better. So definitely check that out.
She does.
Yes, that's right.
Also, we got to look at Baywatch,
Fox's Baywatch this week.
Yes, we did, we got a trailer.
So we have that iconic theme song
and the iconic slow-mo run on
the beach.
It's all back in this reboot and
we saw the trailer.
We also saw some special guest
stars, Megan Thee Stallion show up
and we'll have many guest stars as
the series goes on.
But what they're doing is they're
giving a lot of nods to the
original while also bringing in a brand new audience.
Because if you look at this cast,
it stars from the world of social media and sports.
And so they're bringing everybody in and so I got a look
and I did talk to the cast about
preparing for these roles.
We actually trained with real Los Angeles lifeguards
for weeks leading up to filming
and swimming takes such a toll and it's such a hard workout.
I was like, okay, so I need to stop going out until 3
a.m. now that I'm a Baywatch lifeguard.
There is nothing like a day where you are sun up
to sun down on the open water or on the beach.
You arrive to set and you're like, okay, this is my office.
This is a joke. Like, this is amazing.
It's like a love letter to California. It really is.
I just want to create a show that's fun
and that makes people feel like they're living the California dream.
So I spoke with the cast both at the Emmy Awards and the Fox up fronts,
as you saw there.
I wanna point out they're going to be wearing Baywatch red
from now until January, I'm pretty
sure because I did ask them about that too
and they're like, of course, it's part of
the excitement.
Wow.
There's a lot of blonde going on there.
Wow, yeah, like perfection.
Yeah.
Wow.
And they film over here.
They film in Venice and
they film in Venice Beach and
they were talking- Yeah.
A local production.
So they were talking about
how great that is to show up to
set and just see where they're
filming too and bring that all in.
That's right.
Ashley, thank you.
Thank you, have a good weekend.
Okay, so that leads us to our poll
question of the day.
Which classic TV series deserves
a reboot of its own?
And these are classics, okay,
friends, ER.
ER. I guess like The Pit is
It's kind of like a new iteration of ER.
Right, right.
The Golden Girls, Sopranos.
Gosh, these are such good series.
Seinfeld, Lost, MASH.
Lost, maybe.
A little MASH action.
Lost might work.
Or Everybody Loves Raymond.
Maybe Lost could work.
Weigh in.
Go to foxla.com slash votes.
Maybe there's something that we left off the list.
A series that you would like to see reimagined or rebooted.
Sometimes you re-watch these and you realize, like,
in today's environment, they might not be PC.
It might not work.
Right?
They're like, the situation just doesn't work.
Or, you know, because Sex and the City did their reboot.
I guess you could call it a reboot.
Not a reboot, more of an extension of the show.
Yeah.
Maybe one of those series could do an extension.
Yeah.
All right.
Weigh in.
Let us know what you think.
All right.
Over to you, Stu.
What would you like to see rebooted?
You know, I would go for the lost,
and I would hope that this time they don't do that twist that,
you remember, the script got out,
the plot twist came out, and then they changed it all up.
I mean, I wish we would have seen the original.
They should have just kept it.
But anyway, that's just me.
I'm just a guy in a helicopter.
Let's talk about some traffic.
Five Drive is what we're looking at right there
as you're making your way up towards the East LA Interchange.
And you know what?
I'm still going to call it Friday Night for sure.
For northbound, yeah, there's a little bit of slowing
as you make your way up towards that East LA Interchange.
But for the most part, the 5 Drive north and southbound,
as much as we've seen it, it's moving along very well.
I hope your day goes as smooth as that 5 Drive.
Let's take a look at some traffic.
Hot spots.

To continue to follow breaking news,
firefighters attack a wind-driven fire in Malibu with ground
crews and water-dropping aircraft overnight.
So far, the Bryson fire has burned nearly 146
acres since it started around 5 last night.
It's currently 17% contained.
Evacuation warnings were issued
for a large area stretching from near Malibu Road and
PCH to Leo Carrillo State Beach.
An evacuation order was subsequently issued
in the more immediate area, including Zuma
and Trancas Canyons.
There will be a news conference this morning at 8.30 with an update
from the command center. We've got
our Gigi Garcia up there, and we will bring you that
update when we get it.
Our other top stories this morning, a Florida sheriff's officer
is suing WWE and wrestler Montez Ford over an unwanted lap dance.
The lawsuit claims
Ford performed a sexually provocative dance during
a live broadcast at the Allstate Arena
in July. The officer was working off-duty security for the show.
Alex Murdaugh is back in court in South Carolina
this morning for a critical pretrial hearing as
he faces a retrial for the murders of his wife and younger son.
Prosecutors and defense attorneys
are set to dispute DNA testing of material found under
his wife Maggie Murdaugh's fingernails and
ballistics evidence from neighboring counties.
Murdaugh's original double murder convictions
were overturned following allegations of jury tampering.
He is currently serving a 40-year
sentence. And there's a bail review hearing
for the Arcadia couple facing child abuse-related
charges in a surrogacy scandal.
Earlier this week, the couple's lawyers said they'll ask a
judge to release them from jail.
Prosecutors allege the couple had about 21 children,
misled surrogates, and hired nannies who abused the children.
Both have pleaded not guilty.
All right, researchers could be days away now from solving
the century-old mystery of Amelia Earhart's missing plane.
Earhart and her navigator vanished over the Central Pacific
in 1937 during their historic round-the-world flight.
But now a research team at Purdue University is back
at a remote underwater search site after spotting
a visual anomaly on satellite imagery.
Crews are using sonar to scan the ocean floor
in the hopes of finally locating the wreckage.
Everyone loves a mystery
and this is one of the great mysteries of history.
But on top of that,
she was such a striking and historic figure in her own right.
So people have been wondering,
looking and theorizing about it ever since.
Purdue hopes to provide an update
on the expedition sometime in the next few days.
One of the things that they say is hampering this investigation
is going on to the nearby island where they think
Amelia Earhart might have been at some point.
There's flesh-eating crabs there.
Oh.
Yeah.
Oh.
Yeah.
Who knew they even existed?
Ooh, well, that might be-
Is that it?
Is that one of them?
That could be some of them.
I didn't know they were that big.
I heard about it.
I didn't know that they were that big.
Kind of crazy.
Wow.
Yeah.
That's just a fascinating story all the way around.
Yeah, it is.
A discovery in the Mediterranean Sea meantime,
archaeologists have found what Turkish officials
are calling the world's oldest shipwreck.
Experts say it dates back around 4,700 years.
About as old as the Great Pyramids of Egypt.
The ship was found off the coast of Turkey.
Researchers believe it may have been used to transport olive oil
or wine across the Mediterranean.
And one pot found on board has markings and holes
that suggest it could have even been used to make cheese or butter.
All right.
I'm still on the flesh-eating crabs.
Why?
I didn't, like, I didn't know crabs were, like, that aggressive.
By flesh-eating, do they mean human flesh-eating?
That's what I think they mean, yeah.
Oh, okay.
I thought you were talking about some new spa treatment
that was just discovered, you know.
They have like the minnows that bite your toes.
Eat your dead skin cells.
I think it's like that.
I think they'll take the whole thing, the whole foot.
That's okay.
You look good.
All right, here we go.
Let's talk about our weather right now
because we do have some dangerous, very strong Santa
And it wins with us the first of the season, really.
And, of course, everyone is on alert.
Here's a live look outside.
Santa Monica camera showing you the pier.
A little bit of surf coming in.
Not too big.
I think homeowners along the coast getting a little bit
of a break with the high tide and the coastal flooding.
But surf heights around 2 to 4 feet.
I'll get to that surf report in just a few moments.
Good day, LA.
Weather is sponsored by My Home Sold.
Perhaps you are traveling.
We're definitely feeling the fall temperatures up here
in the upper Midwest, like Minneapolis 51 today.
Omaha 53, Chicago just 53 degrees
with some rain moving south from Canada and the Great Lakes.
58 in Detroit today, 73 in New York City,
down to the south, 86 in New Orleans, 76 in Houston.
Even in Dallas, a little cool today with that high of just 64 degrees.
Out towards the desert southwest, a little warmer, especially here.
Downtown L.A., we're expecting 93.
This is all because of this big dome
of high pressure that's in control of our weather,
giving us this offshore flow and these
winds coming out of the northeast.
So it's going to be windy, it will be hot, it will be dry,
and thus the fire danger very high as well.
We have some moisture showing up at the bottom of your screen here.
This is related to Simon, Tropical Storm Simon, which is weakening,
but it is bringing some rain into the Baja Peninsula.
We'll get to see these winds start to weaken,
I would say, late tomorrow.
So advisories and warnings are in effect
at least until 8 p.m. tomorrow.
And then by Sunday, we will see a big difference.
An area of low pressure will start
to drop down from the Gulf of Alaska.
And by Monday, Tuesday, we'll start to see some clouds.
Definitely the onshore flow will be back.
So cooling sea breeze will be with us.
And as this low drops south, it might bring some snow.
But then Sierra Nevada, some rain for us here,
light to moderate mostly at this point.
The models are pointing to as early as late Tuesday,
Wednesday, Thursday with some rain chances.
There might be some sprinkles, by the way,
this weekend over the deserts.
Again, related to tropical storms.
Simon here with winds of 40 miles an hour.
It is moving away from the Baja Peninsula.
that's good news. But it's gonna send moisture up to the Baja area
and into the rest of Mexico
in the desert southwest.
Hurricane Trudy has really spun up and it's got winds of 120 miles
an hour. It's a major hurricane strengthening
a bit as it skirts the central coast of Mexico
following a very close pattern and path of Simon just south of Cabo.
Here at home, we've got these alerts in place,
red flag warnings, heat advisories for the very
Hot temperatures, we're expecting high wind warnings as well.
Winds coming out of the northeast, 25 to 45 miles an hour, gusting
near 50 even to 70 miles an hour in some of those isolated areas.
So hazardous driving conditions will continue.
There's more possibilities of some power outages,
do some downed trees and some power lines.
There's really a lot of debris on the roads,
especially in those wind-prone areas.
So be extra careful with your fire ignition sources.
Just a reminder, wind does not cause fire.
it just helps spread it rapidly
so any small spark can cause a fire under these weather
conditions really quite dangerous if you're headed
to the beach two to four feet from ventura south
to la a little bit bigger in san diego three
to five feet temperatures on the sand really warm
and that is why we've got those heat advisories 90s
a lot of power outages so a lot of people
don't have air conditioning once again
so please be extra careful and stay heat safe 87 tomorrow
along the coast and then we've got that chance
for showers look at the drop in temperatures 92
today along the coast, down to the 60s
by midweek next week with that chance for rain.
Downtown LA, 93 today, down to just 71 on Tuesday,
60s Wednesday, Thursday. So yeah,
jacket, umbrella kind of days, hopefully next week.
95 for the valleys and Inland Empire with
those high wind warnings.
The mountain 61, red flag warnings there, and that drive up to the
high country will be gusty.
So be careful with those high profile vehicles. High desert, 81
degrees and out towards the Coachella Valley.
Even there, we're looking at a chance for some
light, light showers as we get into next week.
Tuesday, maybe Wednesday, and Thursday, a little
greater chance of 60%. But today, 90 degrees there.
All right, let's do some TV shout-outs
before you walk out the door. Oh, look at this cute guy.
I like your Gremlin shirt, James. Happy
seventh birthday to you.
Apparently, you are charismatic, smart, and such a sweet boy. Your
Mommy, your daddy, Jacob, and Sophie love you so much.
And you look so cute.
And then happy birthday to Julian here.
Your Tia Raydeen sent us this photo.
Cute.
Keep those pictures coming.
All you have to do is email them to us, tvshoutouts at fox.com.
Make sure you attach the photo.
Give us their name, a little tidbit of info.
All right, there's my weather.
I'll send it back to you.
All right, Maria, thank you.
New this morning, more than 30,000 Toyota vehicles have been recalled
due to a software issue that could cause the car to shut down.
The recall affects the 2026 Toyota RAV4 plug-in hybrid.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says
the software issue could cause the hybrid system to reduce power
or even shut down when driven at higher speeds.
As a result, the issue could increase the risk of crash.
Toyota dealers will update the software for free.
Owners will be notified by early December.
Tesla's new Roadster didn't drive at its unveiling.
It took flight.
Sure did.
So the car drove up this ramp.
which apparently we asked how this happened.
And it had suction-based thrusters to stay
attached to the ramp, launches itself off the ramp,
flips in the air and lands.
Tesla says it can go from zero to 60 in less than
a second with help from thrusters developed by
SpaceX. The company expects production to start in 2028.
Tesla is accepting paid reservations for
50 and $250,000. It's just hard to believe.
And just with AI out there, I look at it,
I'm thinking, well, this was live streamed.
I know. Yeah. All the Tesla's saying this is a
very exciting step for the future of flying cars, perhaps.
2028. I just don't see production in
2028. Right. So you're going to see these things on the road in 2028.
There's going to have to be
a lot of government, you can't just have them on the road.
There's no way.
I would imagine not.
And then also here in SoCal- There's gonna have to be regulation, put
it that way.
Yes.
Cuz you're just not gonna see these things
flying all over the place without any kind
of regulation.
But also here in SoCal for the Olympics, right?
You're gonna expect to see some flying cars, apparently.
Yeah, flying taxis, right.
In the near future.
Yeah, but those have propellers and stuff.
This one doesn't have a propeller.
Nope.
No, it doesn't.
All right, we'll be right back.
