Khloe Kardashian found me.
Khloe Kardashian?
Hang on, hang on.
Right, hold on.
You just dropped that.
Let me pick that up off the floor.
Our special guest this morning
has been on quite the journey.
From a call centre in Cardiff
to international pop stardom,
it's the ridiculously talented
Jamie Miller.
Jamie's here!
Who is here.
Let's go.
Now, Jamie,
to best understand your story,
should we just turn the clock back 10 years?
Yeah.
To a 19-year-old boy
who's uh you've done school you're working where i
was in a call center i was working for tesco
so you're working for tesco yeah fixing ipads dreaming
of a music career or is it was that not
even a dream then i mean i it was like
a pipe pipe dream you know i feel like i i always was
dreaming of it but i never thought it
was just like ever possible yeah and then yeah i just
started doing some things like building blocks i went
on the voice right and then i came third on
the voice and then I came off the voice nothing really happened
and then Khloe Kardashian found
me right hold on you just dropped that let me pick
that up off the floor right tell us that story
she like posted a video of me singing
and said I was a new favorite singer and then like basically
back then every single label was in my emails
and then the next day I was on a flight to New York
City and then I ended up signing a record deal thought
my life changed forever and then a few
years went by and then i put out a song
and then my my career has kind of done this to be honest
like i i've had like little bits of success
and then it's gone away again and i don't know baby
doll is like kind of like
the reason why i feel like it just like i'm it's finally hitting like
mainstream and i'm seeing seeing that happen
and this is the most mind-boggling thing in the world
to be honest because let's just break this down
for people that uh kind of don't understand the
enormity of like the moment that you're having
because it's across all age groups my daughter
who's nine she said to me today
do you tell Jamie Miller i love him i love him and i said yeah okay
i also love you i know my mom is obsessed with your song
so it's crossing it's reaching everybody
and it's reaching it globally yeah
when you were when you were writing this song when you were in
the studio was that the dream to be honest i feel like
for so many years i was doing everything
everybody else wanted me to do and like if a pop boy
was working at the time i was around people
to be like do this sound do this do this and i feel like like
this the beginning of this year i
really said to myself it was my last chance to like properly do it
and if i'm gonna do it if i'm
gonna go out i'm gonna do it my way
and i just went i just wrote this album with my two best
friends in Los Angeles and i don't know baby doll
was one of the songs that we wrote it was like the
sixth song on the project and i don't know it just
felt like finally i stepped into the artist i've
always wanted to be and it just feels like everything aligned
at the right time and i didn't
take any opinions I didn't take any comments
and I was like okay but yeah it just feels it feels
just very exciting right now you're
from you're born you're from Cardiff I'm I'm trying to get
my head around your accent yeah so it's cat
so you've got born in Wales born in Wales my mom
and dad are Scottish mom
and dad are Scottish lived in LA for nine years wow okay so that's
the combo right there a little bit of a combo
so when do people in Wales go you sound American and
And then the people in America go, you
sound Welsh or the people in Scotland.
Well, when I first moved to America,
I'd be like, all right, my name is Jamie.
I'm from Wales.
They're like, oh, you're so cute.
They couldn't understand me.
So I had to be polite.
And then I adapted whatever this accent is right now.
What's the coolest thing about living in LA?
I feel like just the weather.
It's very nice weather.
It's not raining.
It's just like nice to, I feel like, and the opportunity, to be honest.
It's just like, I think I grew up
in a place where I just felt like you couldn't really dream big
and you were taught just like to follow the book.
And I feel like now I've just like created
a path where I just feel like I,
no matter what street I grew up on,
I was able to achieve things that people told me I couldn't.
And it's a path that no one else has really done
because your story is a very modern story.
I mean, explain to us, for instance, for us old folks,
The part that TikTok has played in your rise
Because it seems to have been
It seems to have come from nowhere
I feel like I've done
My songs have done well on TikTok in the past
And then
Forgive me, what does that mean?
Talk to a dinosaur
Explain to me how it works
So TikTok a few years ago
Is very different from TikTok now
so I
a song did well
on TikTok
which like a lot of people
would use the sound
if I'm speaking to a dinosaur
a lot of people would create
videos
so people create their content
and then they look
for some music
to go on it
and then they'll choose
your song
yeah
and then
this is great
it kind of changed a little bit
so I started doing covers
so every time I would post a cover
it would do well
on TikTok
and a cover
like a cover version
of another song
yes
got it
and then
and that was the one
that's what a cover is
yeah I know
And that was what Khloe Kardashian had seen
was one of your covers, is that right?
Yeah, that was before TikTok, though.
Right, gotcha.
And then, yeah, I posted covers a lot
and then I started gaining a fan base from covers.
Even now, like I still posted covers last year
and they started to, like they always would do well.
And then I just, yeah, then I posted Babydoll this year.
Yeah, and it's just exploded.
It's kind of been covered, hasn't it, by everybody on TikTok.
Who are you most excited by seeing doing the Babydoll dance?
Honestly, just everybody I've done it with
has been absolutely incredible.
Well, give us some names.
Let's name drop for the sake of this.
Julianne Hough.
I've done Jennifer Love Hewitt.
Lucy Hale.
Just everybody.
Jennifer Love Hewitt, wow.
Yeah, she was my favorite actress growing up.
My mom's favorite actress too.
Like we loved Ghost Whisperer.
So when I saw her like doing the videos to my song,
I was like, what the hell is going on?
But then it just started to become this like,
like everywhere I went,
like I was in New York a few days ago.
And I was walking through Times Square and I realized,
oh, like this is happening in real time.
Like so many people were coming up to me
and like I was just on my own walking to Starbucks.
And I was like, what is going on with my life right now?
And now I'm in London.
What's going on?
Also, like, I'm going to just call it.
I reckon you're going to influence
the types of hats that we wear this year.
Like you're bringing back the beret.
Bringing back the beret, baby.
I should have wore it today.
I know.
That's my favorite.
I'm loving this one too.
But you're loving your style as well.
You love your fashion.
And that's a big piece of kind of who you are.
Yeah, for the first time, I just feel like I've stepped
into the artist I've always wanted to be.
And I feel like, again, I had no plans for Babydoll to be a success.
But again, I just wanted to give it my full go this year.
So it feels really cool that it's working out the way it is.
Do you feel nervous about the next single?
No.
Honestly, I just feel like I'm having fun for the first time.
None of this album I wrote for it to be a hit.
I wrote it just to like for myself to be honest
and I feel like, I think it's very good to be honest
Yeah, good, you sound confident
I do, yeah
We're so thrilled for you here.
And as I say, we're playing the song a lot.
We wish you the very best of luck for the single too
Thanks so much for having me, we really do
Jamie Miller, how about that?
