Avanti West Coast Challenge: Four contestants take on epic journey to win AMAZING prize
Sep 18, 2026
Four contestants travelled from all over the country to Glasgow,
where their adventure begins aboard an Avanti West Coast train.
Hertfordshire, a little village called Whitwell.
I'm from Lytham in Lancashire, Edinburgh.
I'm from London.
As the train races through some of Britain's most breathtaking scenery,
our contestants will face two thrilling elimination challenges.
The final two will battle it out here at Hart HQ live in Leicester Square
and win their unforgettable five-star family holiday.
Here is round one.
Tickets, please.
You must give as many things that fit into your category as you can in 30 seconds.
The person who names the fewest things in their category will be leaving the train.
When it stops at the next station.
Just to clarify.
Player one, Sarah.
Celebrity.
30 seconds on the clock.
Your time starts now.
Amanda Holden, JK.
I was trying to remember their surnames.
Emma Bunton, Scary Spice, Baby Spice.
Victoria Beckham, David Beckham.
Going first, you were like...
I was hoping to go maybe second or third or last just to see how people did.
Three, two, one.
Queen.
And you're out of time.
I can reveal that Sarah got a score of 17.
Well done, Sarah.
Player number two for tickets, please, is Pauline.
Yay!
Animals.
Are you ready?
Oh, this is now the real thing.
Let's go.
Cat, dog, hamster, hare.
It's the nervous thing.
You just go a bit blank.
Another hamster.
Can't have hamster twice.
A spider, a dog.
I kept repeating quite a few.
Cat, dog, hamster.
There was a few hamsters and cats and dogs in there twice, but we let them out.
Time to move on to player number three, which is Chloe.
Countries.
Oh, Chloe.
I don't want to say it, but that seems really hard.
Chloe, are you confident?
I'm going to try.
Let's go.
OK, Switzerland, Paris.
I just panicked.
I've been to so many countries.
I can't even think.
Why can I not name them in 30 seconds?
Labia, and then also South Korea.
Time's up.
My mind just went blank.
Alex, it is your turn.
Food.
Countries would have been my number one category.
Here we go.
You have that moment of panic.
I can't think of any food.
Chips, roast potatoes, beef burgers, chicken nuggets, broccoli, broccolini.
Stuffing.
Time's up.
Broccoli and broccolini was amazing.
I was like, is she going to say broccoli again?
No, no.
I just started trying to think of what I had for dinner.
The scores are in.
It's time to reveal who named the fewest things in their category
and who will be booted lovingly off the train.
OK, Sarah and Alex, you are safe with 17.
Well done, ladies.
Well done.
That leaves two contestants.
With 13.
Chloe.
Oh, no.
OK.
I was disappointed because I came to, like, I don't know,
30 plus countries.
Pauline, you need at least 13 to stay in the game.
With a score of 11.
Oh, Pauline.
Pauline, you did such a good job.
Well done.
You should be very, very proud of yourself.
Our next stop is Oxenholm Lake District,
which means this is where your journey will end.
Oh, I'm so sorry.
Don't worry about it.
You're always clever after the event.
Why didn't I say all these things in the jungle?
I'm pleased for the other girls.
I'm glad they got through.
It's that awful feeling where you want to do well
but you don't want other people to do badly.
And so I found that.
That was the hardest bit.
My lovely ladies, you made it through to round two,
which is called Celebrity Suitcase.
I've got three suitcases
with three different celebrities attached to them.
So these suitcases, I was going to say stolen,
I've pinched them, I've borrowed them from the celebs.
One by one, you've got to route through the suitcase,
take a look at the items
and decide who that suitcase belongs to.
The person who identifies their celebrity the slowest
will be eliminated.
So the first person to go is Sarah.
Sarah!
OK.
Are you ready to go?
Ready.
Let's go.
Amanda Holden.
Stop!
I saw the heels and I thought, Amanda.
It's the correct answer!
I'm told of these and you're like, Amanda Holden!
Yeah, I was happy with that.
Well done.
Right, Alex, please select your suitcase.
Are you ready?
I knew Sarah had done well.
I just want to do your best
and don't want to make a fool of yourself.
Your time starts now.
Don't hug Chloe.
Oh, it's small.
Profanities.
A chef.
Gordon Ramsay.
Stop!
When I saw the swear book, I was like, who?
Yes!
It's correct!
Then when I saw the chefs, it made sense.
Gordon Ramsay just came to my mind.
Chloe, you are the final person.
Pressure is on.
I'm ready.
Your time starts now.
OK.
Go, Chloe, go.
Oh, my gosh.
Quick, quick, quick.
Trying to calmly open the suitcase.
Oh, no, Chloe!
I didn't know what happened, but it still got stuck.
Oh, no!
I just panicked and it wouldn't open
and the timer was going.
What have you got?
I've got a guitar.
Yeah, a guitar.
And Ed Sheeran.
Yes!
Stop!
As soon as I saw the wig, the ginger wig,
I thought Ed Sheeran.
Ed Sheeran's on the train.
But then I got thrown by the mathematics book.
I guess...
Oh, my gosh, he's got that song.
Are we just...
No, he doesn't.
It's the albums.
Guys, the scores are in.
Sarah, you managed 7.1 seconds.
That was very impressive.
Well done.
Well done!
I thought I could have done better,
but seven seconds is OK.
Alex, you did it in 8.16 seconds.
I'm really proud of that.
Now, Chloe, you need 8.1 seconds or less
to stay in the game.
Your time was 12.2 seconds.
Unfortunately, Chloe, it wasn't enough
to get you through to the next round.
It was too late and I got eliminated,
which was disappointing.
Our next stop is Warrington Bank Quay,
where your journey will come to an end
and you have to disembark the train!
But, Chloe, have you enjoyed it?
I have enjoyed it, yes.
Our two remaining contestants are Alex and Sarah!
Second's good for me.
So far.
I'm disappointed to have been eliminated
and to not have had a chance
to win the five-star prize.
But I'm also just grateful
to have been able to participate.
Phew.
Our two finalists, Sarah and Alex,
can finally enjoy the comfort
of the Avanti West Coast train journey
to London.
Because once they're there,
we have to hot-foot it over
to London's Leicester Square Hart HQ
for one final showdown,
where only one can win that incredible grand prize.
Really excited.
I can't wait to go to London.
That's the best present for me.
Honestly, just meeting Amanda and JK,
I just can't wait.
Come on, Alex, move it!
Amanda Holden's waiting!
Coming!
Our contestants are about to get in one lift,
but before they do,
I'm going to ask them a question.
What is the distance between
Glasgow Central Station
and London Euston Station in miles?
Oh my goodness.
My brain just froze.
500 miles?
Didn't have a clue,
so I just had to kind of make it up.
Go for proclaimers.
Alex?
I think 344 miles.
Wasn't positive whether it was 244, 444.
I just had 44 in my head.
The person who is closest
will automatically be taken
to the winning floor.
Ladies, please step into your lifts.
It's been a journey.
Congratulations, Alex!
Oh, thank you so much!
Oh my goodness me!
Before I went in the lift,
I knew I was going home.
How happy are you?
I am over the moon.
I'm shaking a little bit.
Oh, she is shaking a little bit.
Let me get some of this confetti out.
There you go.
I wasn't sure that it was Amanda.
Oh, don't cry.
It's all good.
Where are you going to go?
I'm going to come back down to London.
Yay!
She's taking me for tea at the Ritz.
Hooray!
Yay!
Oh my goodness.
So you have won.
You've won a weekend
at the five-star Langham Hotel.
You've got afternoon tea at the Ritz.
You've got champagne.
Oh, no way!
And you're going to the sky deck
at the Shard.
Oh, very good!
Who are you going to bring?
I'm going to bring my husband of course,
and my mum.
She deserves five-star experience,
so I think tea at the Ritz
is going to be amazing.
Oh, bless her.
I'm so happy for you.
Tears of joy.
And it is all thanks to
Avanti West Coast Train.
Thank you, Avanti West Coast!
Everyone's been amazing,
and I'm so happy for Alec.
Hart and Avanti West Coast
have just been brilliant.
