We've got a pretty impressive thunderstorm
moving across portions of Morris County.
It goes from the Rockaway area southward
towards Somerset County and Bernardsville.
I'll give you some details on that.
Clouds will continue to collect.
As far as the severe characteristics are concerned,
we do not see any damaging winds embedded in this line.
It is going to be, the winds will pick up.
And we're talking about 30 to 40 mile an hour gusts.
And if there is an old branch, I mean, that could come down.
But again, we're going to keep an eye
on this line of storms right here.
It is moving off fairly quickly off
to the east at around 50 miles an hour.
If you are in the path of this storm system, get ready.
This is going to rearrange those holiday decorations on the lawn.
Morristown, Troy Hills, Wayne,
over towards the Union area, Newark and Hoboken.
Just take note of the times.
That's when I think that this line of wind-driven rain
is going to be advancing in your direction.
So you don't really have much time in Morris County
to secure some of those outdoor items.
Maybe you have the umbrella open on the back patio.
Try and get out there, bring that down as fast as you can,
because this is going to be a pretty
nasty little burst of wind-driven rains.
Now, this front goes through fairly quickly.
I mean, it's going to make it to the coastline
by about 8, 8:30 and then stall.
We'll be dealing with some spotty showers right through the overnight.
And look, spot the front.
I mean, we had 70s and 80s earlier today,
50s and 40s back out towards the west,
and that's rushing in our direction.
That's what you're going to immediately
notice when that front goes through.
Not necessarily the rain, although, I mean, it is going to be wet.
It is going to get very cold very quickly
as we go through our Friday evening and Friday night.
And when we get into Saturday morning,
temperatures north and west are going to be in the mid to upper 30s.
The rest of the state is going to be in the lower 40s.
The winds are anywhere from 15 to 30 miles an hour,
so those 30s and 40s feel more like the 20s and lower 30s,
and that's what you need to be prepared for.
Saturday afternoon, we're stuck with daytime high temperatures that
are a good 10 to 15 degrees cooler than average, and on top of that,
we're going to be dealing with wind chills Saturday going into Sunday
that are going to be well below zero, so that's why we're going to,
or well below the freezing mark, so that's why we've got
those freeze watches for the northwest corner of the state.
More details coming right up.
