Video Summary
AI GeneratedLong Island is monitoring a chance for showers and thunderstorms this evening, with a severe thunderstorm watch in effect for Nassau County. While the storm line is expected to weaken, residents may experience strong wind gusts between 7:00 PM and 8:00 PM. Light to moderate rain will persist overnight, clearing by Saturday morning, followed by a chilly, windy weekend.
Good evening, Long Island.
We continue to watch a chance for
additional showers and thunderstorms
into the evening.
Couple of those could just be on the
stronger side, especially in Nassau County.
Towards that 7 o'clock hour this evening.
Right now, really nothing going on.
We have some breaks in the clouds
after we had the showers this morning.
We ended up with some nicer weather as expected.
Now we're tracking a line of strong
thunderstorms just off to the north and West,
so Nassau County has a severe
thunderstorm watch.
That doesn't mean severe
weather is going to happen.
It means there's a slight chance for
storm to come through parts of Nassau County with gusts over 40
or 50 miles per hour. So it's an
outside chance even for Nassau County,
but the chances is there figure between around 7 to 8
o'clock or so this evening.
Here's future cast as we take a look right now. It is quiet, although
a little bit breezy and it will stay a little bit
on the windy side with gusts 15 to 30 miles per
hour, regardless of any thunderstorms.
As we head towards that 7 o'clock hour, Nassau County will have
the best chance for seeing that stronger thunderstorm.
I do expect this line to be
weakening as it's approaching and moving through Long Island.
So a lot of Long Island will just
really notice a quick pop in the wind gusts.
You might think, oh, where did that wind gusts come
from? And you might not have a whole lot of rain with it,
but this was a line of thunderstorms that
did have severe weather associated with it
that's just weakening over Long Island. So you might have
to slow it down a little bit in terms of travel this evening.
Scattered downpours can be around
through the mid-evening hours,
but it's really just going to be light to moderate rain showers
that will persist overnight
and into early on Saturday morning we won't completely dry out
until figure between six and eight in the morning on Saturday
and then it's still windy and colder
feeling but not a whole lot in terms of rain amounts
for Long Island less than a half inch
with this it's more about the the increase
in the wind as that line comes through feels like
temperatures will be in the upper 30s to low 40s tomorrow morning
and that's not the coldest part
of the weekend but it will be chilly all weekend long it'll feel like
the 30s Sunday morning Sunday
afternoon. Better less wind
in the mid fifties all of next week right now
looking nice with highs in the sixties
