Hi everyone, today I am working on a dutch pour with masking tape to add some fun designs to the usual paint pours.
Follow along,
I started by painting my canvas gold and adding masking tape on top, so that the beautiful gold underneath shows through when the tape is taken off!
I really wanted to try something a little different, and I am overall happy with the results! The color palette is absolutely stunning, so I am thinking of using it again for my dutch pour!🙂
In today's video I'm doing something
a little different with my Dutch pour.
I wanted to try out a fun abstract masking tape design.
So what I did is I painted half of my
canvas gold and then added some tape
and then after my Dutch pour dries I'll be peeling off
the tape to show that gold underneath.
So I have two colors for my base. I'm going to use white
and a really light blue that I mixed up
and then I have purple pink and a darker blue for the colors
that I will be blowing out.
Each of my colors are mixed with water and Floetrol. For me that Floe
trol really helps get some nice cells in my pieces.
So I'm just going to start by splitting
my canvas with each color.
I'll put the white at the top and the blue at the bottom and then just
use a sponge
brush to smooth
that paint out.
Once I had
my base coat
down I just took
my other three
colors and put them in the middle
of my canvas and then I'm just using
my small hair dryer to
blow out
my colors.
I'm just
going
to let
this dry
and then
I will
peel
off the
tape and
we'll see
what that looks like.
So my painting is all dry. Unfortunately
in that light blue my colors really
sunk so I don't really like the way
that the bottom half of the painting turned out but the
colors look really really great in the white
so I may use these three colors again for Dutch Pour
just with a white base and then I'm just taking a knife
and gently peeling back the tape. As you can
see some of the white paint got underneath the tape
but for the most part the tape worked pretty
well. I don't necessarily think this design looks
the best with this painting in particular, but I
think doing some taped areas and then having your paint dry on top
and then peeling it off could be
a really fun way to do some really abstract pieces
or to get some really fun silhouette
shapes in your painting. So this could really be just
a really nice way to embellish your paintings.
