Caught on camera, three suspects busting through
the wall of a Phoenix card shop
and making off with $70,000 worth of Pokemon cards.
And now the owners are turning to the public
to try to track down those suspects.
Fox 10's Jacob Luthi visited the store, and he has the story tonight.
The owner of Crown Cards and Collectibles tells me
that they held their grand opening six weeks ago.
He said he fortified this place with metal bars and security cameras,
but that didn't stop a few individuals
from breaking into the business next door,
slamming through this wall
and stealing thousands of dollars worth of merchandise I was just in
disbelief October 12th just after one
in the morning this surveillance video inside Crown
Cards show suspects smashing through drywall
and crashing their way into the store near 107th
Avenue in Indian School in Phoenix it was a big shock you know
and and it hurts because a lot of
this is you know our life savings
and things that we've put into to to make it happen the
suspects allegedly broke into a neighboring business
and smashed their way into Crown Cards
the owners say more than $70,000 worth of Pokemon cards
were taken including rare gold star cards
like these supposedly worth thousands of dollars each
in just three minutes the suspects are seen
running out jumping into a white truck and taking off
but for the owners the loss goes beyond dollars
and cents. Some of those cards hold deep sentimental value.
Even our kids have their
own binders and things that got stolen from them
that they've been collecting for the couple years.
Crown Cards isn't just a place to buy, sell, or trade cards.
It's also a place where people can
come together and celebrate a shared passion,
and I'm told it's the community that has come
together since the incident.
Reached out to me, brought food, helped me, called me, asked me
if I need any help with absolutely anything.
It brings in an environment where people
are able to bring back their old childhood days
sitting at the lunch table with their friends
and trading their cards and playing the card game.
Within hours, the shop was back up and running.
The owners determined to keep
a tournament scheduled for that night on track.
Now, Michael Cardinelli is offering a $10,000 reward
for the suspect's arrest and conviction,
hoping to keep other card shops from becoming the next target.
I'm getting nothing out of offering this reward,
but I would feel better about it moving forward.
I think all the other card shops would
feel better about it moving forward.
Whatever it takes to find these individuals and that justice be served.
Phoenix police say this investigation is still ongoing.
