Well, as the Lions head into the bye week here in week six,
they just made a massive signing that will bring huge upside
as they try to maintain this historic run
on the offensive side of the ball.
We're going to dive into this signing, the ramifications of it,
and take a deeper look at those historic numbers
and more on this edition of Lions Digest.
Hey, everybody, yours truly, Captain Lou here.
I want to take a moment to welcome
those of you that are checking us out.

I invite you to hit that subscribe button.
It's free.
Come along on the journey with us and the Lions here in 2026.
Be a part of all the conversation, the live reaction,
and more of what we've got in store with the Lions in 2026
here on Lions Digest.
Well, the Lions with a big win this past Sunday,
45-21 over the Arizona Cardinals as they go into the bye week.
but it came at a cost as the Lions have lost now
their main punt returner, Tom Kennedy,
for the remainder of the season with that MCL injury.
He had surgery earlier in the week, and head coach Dan
Campbell said he's all done for the rest of the year.
So, the Lions, they were in a desperate need all of a sudden
with trying to get someone to pick up the slack.
Where are they going to go from within?
Well, they decided to bring a couple of players in for a workout.
Stephen Sims and DeAndre Carter
and then on Thursday they made it official they signed
DeAndre Carter to the practice squad during
the bye week with the intentions more than likely
of signing him to the 53-man roster
to be that primary punt return specialist now DeAndre Carter
is an eight-year veteran of the NFL as of late playing
with the Cleveland Browns and the Los
Angeles Chargers let's take a look at some
of his career stats as i mentioned eight years 111 games
he's played and started 21 primarily as a punt
and kickoff returner his career numbers as a punt
returner he's had 155 punt returns
for an average just under 10 yards a punt return 9.7 as a kickoff
return specialist he's had 144
of those in his eight-year career averaging 23 to 24 yards of
kick and he's got a touchdown now another
interesting stat he brings in his eight-year
career as i mentioned he has started 21 games over that span
and he's had 117 receptions about
1300 30 1340 yards six touchdowns
so this may be a little more of a versatile weapon
that the Lions could be looking for as a depth piece perhaps even more
as they head in after the bye week.
They start the meat of their schedule
with a couple of divisional opponents.
Now he's taken over, as I mentioned, more than likely for Tom Kennedy.
Let's take a look at Kennedy's stats
in the beginning of the season here in 2026.
In the five games, he's had six punt returns,
averaging about 13.2 yards a kick,
and or a punt rather and then the kickoff returns
as he shared the duties with Jacob Sailors he's
had nine of those returns for 24.8 yards of return
so these are vital as a part a little bit of a
part of this historic run that the Lions
are on on the offensive side of the ball so this is
something again that you have to keep
in mind Carter will more than likely be an added piece
for the Lions and be activated
right after the
bye week heading into that
game against Green Bay.
Now we talked about the historic start
that the Lions are definitely on
here in 2026
on the offensive side of the ball.
I want to take a look as they're making
history so far as a dual
threat on the offensive side
of the ball. They are the first
NFL team in five
games to have a quarterback
with over 1,400 yards
passing and 12 passing touchdowns he's got no picks that's Jared Goff
and also with with Jameer
Gibbs with over 500 yards
and seven rushing touchdowns they are the first team in NFL
history to do this all the years in the NFL Gibbs has had
a great start for this 2026 season and i
know that he wants to get the all-time record
for touchdowns that's his that's in a single season
That's his ambition, and he's not afraid to show it.
He's trying to get it, as he's been quoted to saying.
So his production, as I mentioned, has been fantastic.
Let's take a look at the numbers.
504 yards on the ground, seven touchdowns, 243 yards receiving.
He's on pace to get 2,000 yards of total offense.
And when you talk about rushing and passing yards,
Jared Goff is about on that pace as well.
to set some records, some team records,
as he's heading close to 5,000 yards.
That's why I'm going to roll with him
and our brand-new partner here on Kal,
and that's Kalshi, as I'm going to trade yes
that Jared Goff is going to lead the league in passing in 2026.
Now, with Kalshi, remember, when you're working with them,
you trade against other users, not the traditional sports books.
You're buying yes or no contracts on the outcomes
of events across sports, politics, even the weather.
Now, let's take a look at that.
Oh, it's trading right now to be the passing leader in 2026.
Jared Goff right now is trending at about 18, 19%.
So it's great value if you want to trade $25 on that.
Taking a look at that again.
if you trade $25, your return will be $107.49.
Why do I say trade $25? Well, it's that simple.
If you trade with Kalshi, if you want to work with Kalshi,
download the app in the, or make
sure you follow the description and use the promo,
follow the link in the description rather,
and follow the promo code digest NFL.
And your first $25 trade, you will get $55 back
into your account instantly it's
that simple it's free money all the games right now are trading
on Kalshi now we talked about the dual threat history with Jahmyr Gibbs
and Jared Goff the
history they're making in the first five games
with Goff having historic numbers let's take a
look at those again let's kind of highlight Jared Goff right now
the only players in NFL history
to throw 12-plus touchdowns and no picks.
There's only two of them, and that is Russell Wilson.
He did it back in 2019, and Jared Goff in 2026.
But what makes Jared Goff stand alone
is Russell Wilson had a fumble during this stretch.
So this could be fixed and changed too.
Jared Goff is the first quarterback
in NFL history to throw for over 1,200 yards
and no turnovers in the first five games
as we mentioned over 1400 yards passing so the Lions
are off to a historic start on the offensive side of the ball
and of course here's another big stat
as we want to keep bringing it up five games he's been clean no picks
but he really is more excited
about the team balance it's complimentary football
games you can certainly feel it as he's excited
for the Lions going forward, as he said he wants more.
He wants to play right now, and that's one of the things.
When your offense is clicking, the last thing you want is a bye week,
but it's a good week to get everybody rested up
and get some of the players that they were counting on
at the beginning of the year that aren't in their back.
That, of course, includes Brian Branch and Cade Mays
and perhaps a little bit down the road, Kirby Joseph.
But as we mentioned, Tom Kennedy out for the year
with that MCL injury they brought
in DeAndre Carter signed him to the practice squad more
than likely going to elevate him to the 53 man roster
to take over the punt return duties as
Tom Kennedy will be out for the rest of the year
and also don't be surprised if you see Carter
handling some kickoff returns along
with Jacob Sailor all right that's going to do it for this
edition of Lions
Digest. I want to leave you again with these
records that the Lions have made
through the first five games, the historic start
that they're on. And again, I want to remind you
that we've got some exciting stuff going on,
including our first live
watch-along a week from Sunday
against the Green Bay Packers.
We're going to be on through the game, giving you
our insight, giving you up-to-date stats,
all that and a whole lot more. It's going to be a lot of
fun. We will talk more about
that next week. Until then,
Captain Lou saying keep your heads up.
Keep your sticks down.
Keep your feet moving.
And as always, keep your minds open.
So long.
