Video Summary
AI GeneratedA heartwarming interview featuring Samson Herman, a young Milwaukee Brewers fan with cerebral palsy, and his father, Dave. After a viral video captured Samson's emotional reaction to the Brewers clinching a World Series berth at Dodger Stadium, the pair discuss their passion for the team, the impact of the viral moment, and their hopes for a championship.
Lucky Brewers fans got to do that in person at Dodgers Stadium.
Our Ted Perry got to catch up with some fans
and actually captured this incredible moment.
Take a listen.
Samson, Samson, you're all smiles, buddy.
We are going to the World Series.
How happy are you, my friend?
He was crying earlier.
You're going to make me cry.
Yeah.
Samson was born with quad spastic cerebral palsy, so he's never walked.
But he's walking tonight.
He's walking tonight! He's walking tonight!
Who's your favorite player, Samson?
Jackson Chubb!
You've got two favorite players.
Buddy, I've never been happier for a fan than I
am for you right now, alright?
Let's go win the World Series!
Alright guys, I didn't think I was going to tear up,
but that got to me.
I'm sending it back to you guys.
Enough to make very own Ted Perry cry,
and I can't help but tear up by that, too.
That video now has over, like,
tens of thousands of views on Instagram at last check,
over 100,000 views on TikTok, and I'm actually going
to bring in the two stars of that video right now.
I'm joined by Dave and Samson Herman, live joining us in Los Angeles.
Thank you guys so much for being here today.
Good morning, good morning.
I know it probably was a long night last night,
but the Brewers going to the World Series,
my first question to you both, how are you guys feeling?
Fantastic. I mean, this is a huge moment in Wisconsin sports history,
and I'm glad that I was there to witness one
of the greatest moments ever.
Yeah, yeah, it's really special. I mean, in my lifetime, I'm 52.
I've never had a Wisconsin event until the Bucks took it, go Giannis.
and then now for the brewers
the first time since 82 it's just phenomenal and then this video is
really neat too so yeah and it's been years
and years as you were saying it's a generational
thing dave and i'm sure for you
so incredible to share it now with both of your sons but you live
in the minneapolis area so i have to ask what's
the story here how did you become diehard brewers
fans um so my dad i'm i'm an ohioan uh
but my dad was transferred to the milwaukee area around
1990 and then uh once i got
to wisconsin uh you know you just you get embraced you get a giant
hug from Packers fans, Brewers fans, just everybody
and and it's the whole culture in the state is
it's just so special you you can't help
but convert so and honestly jumping over from uh
The Cleveland Browns to the Green Bay Packers, it's an easy choice.
Yeah, and I even saw the cheesehead in the video, too.
So I was like, this isn't just Brewers.
This is a whole Wisconsin sports thing.
So, Samson, since you were born, you have always been a Brewers fan?
Yes.
Yeah, yeah.
It's like if we had a choice to watch the Twins,
which are obviously local in Minneapolis, versus watching the Brewers,
it's kind of like not even a choice really at all.
But we do go to every Brewers game when they come up,
and then we try to get down to Milwaukee if it's possible.
That's about five hours.
I think if anybody's worth the long-distance trip,
it's the Brewers and the long-distance support.
So I love to see it.
So you started off as Brewers fans, and now you're here.
You were at the National League Championship Series.
Why did you decide to make the trip out to Los Angeles?
Because it was MEA break and we had nothing else to do,
so why not come and support the Milwaukee Brewers?
Yeah, yeah.
A great atmosphere.
Yeah, there's like a three-day small vacation
in Minnesota they call MEA break,
and then I, you know, they couldn't unfortunately go
to any of the Milwaukee games
because mom said it's a school night,
and so I was just looking at the calendar
and I was like, wow, that kind of lines up for MEA break.
and then I asked for her permission to take these boys
and she said no but we kind of just
gently you know worked her over
and then yeah bought plane tickets and bought tickets for all
three games and here we are what a perfect time
to have a break from school I wish that we had
that here in Wisconsin because that is the perfect time to go
and to now capture these memories I
I want you guys to take me back to last night, the final out,
found out the Brewers are going to the World Series.
What was your reaction in that moment?
Just the emotion and sheer happiness for the city
and our players and staff.
I think that this is a big moment,
and I'll always remember it, and people in Wisconsin will too.
Dad, what was it like for you?
Yeah, and it was, you know, so we had tickets that were higher up
in the third level of the stadium.
They're obviously more affordable.
But towards the end of the game, we did this the night before, too,
so two nights ago for game, effectively, three.
And when we knew that there's a chance to basically see them clinch,
we went all the way down to what they
call ground level in Dodger Stadium.
And then we just asked them for permission to come into those sections.
A lot of the Dodgers fans had already left or were leaving.
And then so we were just basically in an adaptive,
wheelchair-friendly area down there.
And then, you know, it was mostly Milwaukee Brewers fans.
People were crying.
People were, you know, it was just a crazy atmosphere.
Samson started crying.
I was verklempt.
It was crazy.
And then obviously when they did clinch,
you know, Chisholm got that last out.
But if you'll remember from two nights ago,
he also got the first home run, first pitch.
So it was just like the perfect storybook ending
to a mini trip over a vacation.
Yeah, and that moment afterwards, now viral, like mega viral, Samson.
I know you've been giving your dad a little,
razzing him up here and there, talking about the viral moment.
Did you think at that time, oh, this is going to blow up?
Oh, no, not really.
But when it happened, it happened.
And then that's just the reality.
I think it might have touched a lot of hearts
because cerebral palsy is a really challenging condition
and he was unfortunately born that way
so we've done thousands and thousands of hours of therapy
but fundamentally they need further science
to fix that condition
but he's working hard every day
and he loves sports
his dream is to be a sports announcer
we don't know about the feasibility of that
but one never knows
yeah no it absolutely did touch the hearts of so many people
and truly like anything is possible
so you never know and dave i know you said such
a cool thing in that clip you said samson has
never walked but he's walking tonight what has it
been like watching your son grow up to now
being able to share this moment together
as the brewers found out they're going to the world
series what do you think well i guess
this question for me um for me you know we've had
obviously well he's 13 going on 14
so he's had you know call it maybe eight other mea breaks
since he's been in school and you know i think
this is probably the best one what do you think
yeah so um it just all worked out the timing was perfect
and then as far as uh saying uh
The ladies walking tonight, you know,
that's a little note to kind of a higher power, if you will.
Yeah, absolutely. It's incredible.
I get chills just thinking about that.
And Samson, in the video, you said who your favorite players were,
the Miz and Jackson Churrio.
You've already gone super viral.
There's a chance they might see this interview.
If they're watching right now, what do you want them to know?
What would you say to them?
They're just great, and I want them to keep it up
and try to bring a championship to Milwaukee.
So we'll see.
All right, we'll see.
Fingers crossed that everything goes well in the World Series
and that we do bring home that win.
I want to ask you guys, because I know you're out in Los Angeles.
You made the big trip.
Any plans yet for the World Series?
Do you think you're going to try to get out to another game?
I mean, we hope so, but we checked for tickets, and they were sold out.
Yeah.
we'll see yeah we the tickets went
on sale yesterday around two o'clock uh and we were
sitting up there in our seats
and i was like should i buy them now and then we just decided
to buy them later at the hotel so we should have bought them
but in retrospect uh we'll you know
watch it on tv or you know like if the stars
were the line you know maybe we could be down there for
game one which will be a week from today you know
so tonight but plus a week um we've known milwaukee
pretty well because i was raised there
and we have some friends we can stay with and the cool
thing about samson's baseball situation just universally
is he has a a different wheelchair
a power chair uh where he would that we go to the games
in and he can raise that chair up and he can
actually stand uh so all he really needs
is a permission to get into the stadium with me and
maybe his brother too uh he doesn't even need a seat
so we'd love to be there but we also know
that it might not be possible
so we'll see what happens right buddy yeah yeah you never know i
mean the brewers have proven that anything is possible
so i feel like getting the hands on
the World Series tickets, we'll have to manifest that for you guys
and hopefully see you here
in Milwaukee, before I let you guys go I want to ask Dave
because you had touched on it a little
bit, you've never seen a World Series
for the Brewers uh since 1982, what did you teach Samson
How have you coached him through it and been like,
what have you told him about the Brewers?
What have you told him about the history?
And Samson, what are you taking with you now that they're going?
So as far as me, so I was born in '74, so I was eight in 1982
And I had no idea anything about baseball,
so I don't really have any memories of that.
I do know for sure that they
were in the American League at the time, right?
And the Brewers had henceforth been moved to the National League.
So they played St. Louis in '82.
which wouldn't be possible today.
But with that said, as far as preparation for this,
it's brand new to me, too.
So I'm actually kind of living vicariously through him, if you will.
I love to hear it.
Yeah, that's my mistake.
I was thinking, I'm like, oh, my gosh, but yeah.
But since then, it's been 44 years,
so neither of you have experienced it,
so it's really cool to have that together for the first time.
Well, you guys, thank you so much.
Yeah, I was just going to say it's it's just heart touching.
I mean, we when this video went online,
we had no idea what the audience would be. But we've heard from,
you know, third degree separation people like people from our church,
people from all over and just everybody was touched by it.
So we're really thankful to Ted and the camera reporter
and everybody for their kindness in interviewing him.
And hopefully maybe he can be there,
but, you know, we'll see what happens.
So regardless, that's not important whether he's there or not,
at least in my opinion, right?
Ultimately, we just want to see them win a World Series
and bring that home to Milwaukee.
I think that that's number one. Would you agree?
Yeah.
Yeah, for sure.
Yeah, absolutely. No matter where you're at,
you'll be together when you watch and see that.
So I'm so excited for you both.
I know how much you love the Brewers, Samson.
Anything you guys want to add that you feel like
is important for people to know?
What do you got?
Anything?
I'll just say that, you know, he's going on 14.
This is obviously huge for him.
And if he tells me that he's viral
and he's a big superstar one more time, I swear I'm going to.
No, I'm just kidding.
It's just a really neat experience.
and we're just so happy to still be here
In California, we're headed to the beach shortly
after this and uh you know just blessings to all
the people that reached out and to the community
and of course to the Milwaukee Brewers, let's go, let's bring it, bring it
so we're obviously super
excited, so thanks for this opportunity
to be interviewed, Maddie, we certainly appreciate you
and Ted and everybody at Fox Six, of course, let's go Brewers
and I'll double down, Samson, because you
are viral, own it, this is so exciting that we're going
to the World Series and appreciate you guys
so much again for coming on, enjoy the rest
of your time, enjoy the beach for me because the weather is
not very good here, yes we will, we're heading back tomorrow night
so uh we're gonna we're gonna take
the most of it that we can, right buddy? yeah yeah
yeah thanks again, we really appreciate you guys
of course, so great to have you guys
and go Brewers once again, we cannot say that enough
Thank
you.
