But yes, today we're back talking about Connor Hellebuck
as we have a new update on him
and that the Los Angeles Kings have been linked to him in a trade.
So we're going to break down what a potential trade package
would look like for Connor Hellebuck at this point.
So let's dive right into it here as a unlikely suitor comes out
of nowhere in the Los Angeles Kings.
And here we go. It's the Los Angeles Kings explore a Hellebuck trade.
And right now, it's from Frank Saravelli,
which is a notable NHL reporter,
saying, count the Los Angeles among the teams
who have recently kicked the tires
on Connor Hellebuck, saying it is called,
discussed what the price would be,
had that initial conversation with GM Kevin Cheveldayoff,
and it's looking like now it's between kind
of the two teams in California
with the Sharks and the LA Kings both being interested
in Connor Hellebuck.
But I do think LA has some pieces
that would suit Winnipeg better than San Jose at this point.
So let's kind of dive into everything here.
Because obviously Hellebuck, he struggled last season.
And having an 8-9-5 save percentage for this team.
And obviously it led to us missing the playoffs.
And then he requests a trade.
Now he's sitting at home not getting paid.
And we're just looking for a trade to rise for him.
And right now it's looking like it's going to be the LA Kings.
Obviously, the reported asking price by Cheveldayoff
was a two young roster players as a part of the package.
It was either this or it was like a player
and a goaltender or and something like this.
But now the new asking price
is now two young roster players for Connor Hellebuyck.
So looking at the Kings place right now
in their in their division right now, they're kind of seventh.
They only got two points on the season.
They need a little bit of a shake up right now
to get this team back in order and try to get back.
you know into their winning ways
and Connor Hellebuyck is a guy who come in and easily help
out their goaltending situation
because it is you know it is in it is need it is in dire need of
help at this point so it does make sense
for this for this trade to happen but the real reason I
like this them as the best opportunity best destination
for Hellebuyck is because of what
they offer and I think Branden Clark is the guy
who would offer Winnipeg the cornerstone of this trade
obviously they would need to give back
a big piece here to the Winnipeg Jets to get Connor
Hellebuyck and Branden Clark is my guy I definitely think he
is a great great right shot puck moving
fast elite edges type of defenseman
that we would really love to have in Winnipeg he doesn't
have a no trade clause he just signed a contract
that's a pretty decent number right now his
strengths shots on goal he's got three shots
a game he's not afraid to rip them from the blue
line power play points are up as well his giveaways
are one of his weakness though but uh you know
we'll take that because Branden Clark
is a fast fast skater he has great skating edges he can stop up
and turn on an instant and he's
also got some some decent hands on him to make some plays happen
and I really do like Branden Clark
and I think he is the future of the blue line in the NHL and right
now he has four points on the year
for the LA Kings one goal three assists nine blocks for him
so far this season 15 shots on goal averaging almost 20 minutes
on ice a night has been looking
very good through the first couple of games
of this season he's still you know fairly young as
well as Brent Clark which is great to see you know we'll
be getting a guy that's 23 years old
back in this and just looking
at his career stats he had 40 points last year 33 points the year
before he's just a tremendous tremendous defenseman
and a great guy on the right on the right side
that is very fast and uh you know he's been playing
this league since he was 18 years old so
i like Brent Clark a lot to be honest
with you guys i definitely think this is a guy we should
be looking at uh coming back
in this trade obviously you see here an instance where you
know he uses those edges to create a goal
which is great just kind of want to highlight that to
you guys because you know it's kind of sometimes
you don't really know what you're getting with
these players but just seeing this uh it's great
to see him you know obviously have this kind of
season uh looking at the hard minutes here
for defenseman you got three takeaways here this year
11 giveaways and nine block shots
so uh you know it's kind of ranking around you know in the middle
of defensemen uh for takeaways
and giveaways giveaways at 43rd which is great right so uh
nine block shots for him as well not the most physical guy
but when you have a fast like agile
guy like uh Brant Clark he's not going to be laying
the body too much uh Winnipeg builds a
package around Clark so this is kind of what i'm looking
at right now uh for this trade we got
Connor Hellebuyck going to LA and coming to Winnipeg we have Brant Clark,
Carter George and a top 10
protected first round pick
so you know I think this obviously is a lot to give up for Hellebuyck
even in this scenario I would take Brant Clark,
Carter George without even the pick maybe if we
threw a third in here but this is kind of like
a you know a high higher end kind of package I did
put together obviously I
do like Brant Clark I definitely think we should center it around him
I think he's going to be a great defenseman in this league
and a guy we could definitely use on
this right side for the future of our team
and like i said i don't even i think i would do this
trade without the first round pick to be honest
with you guys uh just because of how high i am
on Brant Clark and how high of a ceiling this kid does have
and just looking at his contract like i
mentioned he just signed a new deal uh he's going signed through 2031
at 7.4 million that's an
unbelievable deal for this guy
and obviously this guy is going to come in fit the kind of you know
the younger slash veteran mold we have on this team
and just come in immediately play top second
pairing and just put points up on the board
for us create offense uh on the blue line which would
be great to see and obviously now with Morrissey out week
to week obviously I know Morrissey's on
the left side but getting a guy like Brandt Clarke
who can kind of fill that role uh in the meantime
would be great for this team uh going forward
which would be awesome obviously we kind of see
here why Winnipeg asks for these pieces Clarke's
a premium young uh NHL centerpiece George is a
future goaltending option with a development risk
obviously projected first uh you know with the next
an explicit rollover
and our proposal is not reported by the King's offer but this is kind
of what i'm seeing like i said i would even
do this without the first round pick just to kind
of get Hellebuyck out of here and get a key piece back in here
so you know i did want to include
the first in our in our mock trade
but to me i i would do it without it to be honest with you guys
love to hear your guys thoughts on that looking
at the Winnipeg's cap sheet uh after the moves
uh you know they would they would be less
in salary they would be at 14 million dollars in
cap space now to make more moves happen uh
and to be able to obviously uh you know get some big
pieces at the deadline to kind of bolster
our rush to the Stanley Cup playoffs this year i
definitely think Brandt Clarke would really fit
in with our team uh with how good defense we have
right now adding another piece like that would
be exceptional especially on the right side and
obviously Carter George is a great player to get in here too
because the Kings select him in the
second round back in 2024 uh
and he was uh in in the juniors he was putting up like nine ten save
percentage numbers now he's with the Ontario Reign
in the AHL uh recently had like one or two starts
so small sample size right now
but i believe his numbers are in the high 800s uh but this is a
great prospect to kind of have in our system a guy
who can come down uh with the Manitoba Moose
help them out there and hopefully develop
into a goaltender that we can use at some point
off at the NHL level so that'd be great to see for Carter George
so hopefully we can see that
for sure obviously it adds kind of a element of risk in this deal
because we don't know if he's
going to turn out to be an NHL backup or starter
but I definitely think with our goaltending
obviously development we would be able to help this guy out for sure
because we have a tremendous
goaltending development all throughout you know
our minor system so that'd be great to see
but Los Angeles must decide what it will pay obviously
LA after this deal they still would
be remain under the cap like about 700k under the cap
so that's not bad so obviously they would get
Connor Hellebuyck this would help them out
in the crease going forward obviously they do lose a key
piece on their blue line
but I do think going forward they need goaltending more in my opinion
and obviously you know if we're talking about two
pieces coming back for Connor Hellebuyck we're
they're talking about obviously the big one in Quinton Byfield
or we're talking about
Brant Clark and I would rather see Brant Clark
come than Quinton Byfield because we got Viggo
Bjork now who can kind of be our second line
center going forward yeah Byfield's a great
player and I do think I would like to see him
on this team for sure but I'd rather see
Brant Clark if the option is there for Byfield
or Brant Clark Brant Clark is going to come
in and just be a better player for us a better fit
to this roster so I'd like to see him
uh instead of Byfield here in this situation
if you're if you're asking me and just kind of
looking at our lineup after uh you know
this you can uh this mock trade uh we kind of see here
Brant Clark centering that or being not centering uh being
on this right side here with Josh Morris
he obviously is when the team is fully healthy uh
so this is kind of why i kind of like we also
kind of mix it around we could have maybe Sandberg up with him
or you know him down with Sandberg or
Ferraro you know we could obviously there's a lot
of options that we could talk about here but i
really do like him on the top line with Morrissey Morrissey
is really two-way centered and same with
Brian Clark he leans way more offensive
though he's a really agile he's a guy who can whip the
puck around as well and I you know he has a lot of confidence
which I really like so I think this
roster with Brian Clark looks absolutely disgusting
and something I would like to go after and this is
why you know maybe LA would reject an offer like
this Clark is a part of LA's future defense
Byfield carries age and recent performance risk
the protected first still has to stand
substantial value in this deal
that's probably why they would accept it with the first and LA
would need to replace uh replace Clark's minutes for sure
but i do think that them i said their
goaltending is struggling right now
and they need to make a move and Winnipeg's you know renegotiating a
renegotiating position as Clark uh
as the cornerstone renegotiate renegotiate the prospect
uh and the prospect and pick addition
so maybe even if they don't want to give up Clark maybe then
you move to Byfield and then you kind of get Byfield here
but like i said i think the cornerstone
of this deal should be Clark avoid confusing high asking price
with a likely final return so
yeah i'm i'm liking this uh links recent links
to um the LA Kings let me know what you guys think
down below in the comment section uh
do you think we should take this uh Clark and George uh you
know obviously a deal here
or do you think we should uh obviously you know Winnipeg should
demand more what do you think let me know how you guys
are feeling down below uh in the comment
section about this trade
do you think maybe we should go after Byfield do you think Clark is
too big of an asking price i love to hear
your guys thoughts down below in the comment section
