-- Myself and 3 other youtubers spend 3 full days and nights out in Ontario's back country, fishing, hunting, running rapids and having a blast! Check out these channels!
Hey guys, thanks for tuning in. Joe here.
I'm with Sean from My Self Reliance,
Martin from Scramble Doe, and Doug from Doug Outside.
We're here at the French
River
doing a
canoeing
fishing
trip. We're
about to
run some
rapids.
Looks fun.
Yep, bald eagle.
I think the
plan for today
is paddle
for another
hour or so,
find a camp, and we might stationary camp there
for three nights. We plan on
camping three nights. We might stay there
for three nights, we might move a little
bit, but not going too far.
This isn't a distance trip, this is more of a heavy
gear kind
of relax we get to
know each other film
and uh yeah just have
fun i just caught
the first
fish nobody else has caught a fish yet it
was a small mouth bass a small one too nobody else has
got one
so i'm happy
for now what
do you think i
think so too i'm
about ready i'm
ready to go to
camp i'm ready to eat
give it a high five oh
this is beauty look
this is real nice
this is our camp
I'll swim for sure.
I'll swim you gotta wait half
an hour. I gotta eat before I swim
Look at that so nice.
There's like
a little pool pool
of safety beauty
Pretty open I I'm gonna stay here too right
in my grass spot run my spot
Oh grass well because I was here first look at that is a manicured lawn
Everybody's filming food filming food
Good food. We got
Mr. Douglas with his chili.
Sean's got some frog eggs in there.
I've got a nice Angus steak. Come on
Got a nice Angus steak there
No juices and we are not letting Martin eat tonight.
So well, that was a good steak. Everybody else is eating right now
This is my shelter for tonight.
It's my Big Agnes tent without the bug without the actual tent body
this is just a fly you can see I use the footprint with it
then I just clip it on
and that way I don't need bug protection it's
not buggy I'm getting more
ventilation more airflow
and I get a little bit more room in it so I just got
my NeoAir X-Therm by Therm-a-Rest pillow
and my positive three Celsius
sleeping bag which is gonna be plenty supposed
to get not even anywhere near
that maybe I think seven or eight degrees the one night so pretty good
with that. So we're going to go try our hand at some fishing again.
It's getting late. It's six
o'clock at night and the sun's gone by seven.
So it's the golden hour. There should be walleye,
there should be pike, and there should be bass.
Doug hooked onto a walleye earlier and I had a
bass earlier, but that was at the beginning of the trip
and we didn't want to carry them the whole
way here and all that stuff.
So anyways,
good set of rapids out there.
Let's go try. A little beaver
action I took off
and those guys went their own
way and I came into this Cove
so I'm gonna try to sorry I'm gonna try
to show you what I'm doing here oh we
spit it nice it's a decent fish man pound
or two I'm gonna try to take a
picture here I already had supper
and to be honest with you I don't really need
to eat any bass tonight if it was smaller
if it was earlier in the day if
I hadn't had supper yet I kept them brought him back
on a stringer and show
those guys but a picture and video is good enough for me i can see doug
and martin those guys are in
a in uh sean's cedar strip canvas canoe together sean's
in his solo canoe and i'm in my solo boat
this place is awesome guys like
so i'm paddling by right now just cool rock formations the french
river here where we are is an old like uh trade
route lots of history behind it well what's the
It's a scoop.
Walleye on the board.
Really?
You got a walleye?
Good job.
You got one on film?
Oh, look at that bad boy.
That
fish
be nice.
Go and do laps around it.
Oh yeah?
Yeah.
That piece of ear that he's got on his dresser at home.
Sean caught a big old pike, as you can see,
and Martin caught that walleye like you already saw.
We're gonna eat them up.
It's a lot of fish.
You got a nice few fillets of pike.
fillets of pike and walleye there
and uh some nice wow that's a lot of fillets of pike and walleye guys
yes martin can i have a piece
of your walleyes oh yeah thank you how good that looks
we all just tried the pike and the walleye
and we've all i think everybody
thinks the pike is better than the walleye by
far and that's the end of that what's coming back
Oh my gosh,
is it Sam
Squanch?
Well, it's
10.06 right now.
Those guys are still hanging out by the fire eating more pike.
Oh wouldn't be a trip without that
Yeah, anyways, I'm going to bed.
Good night guys. I'll see you in the morning
Go outside everyone
It's making me have to pee.
We're all, Ralph. We're going to,
what are we gonna do?
So today we're gonna attempt a loop.
We're gonna get off the river onto some back lakes.
We're gonna have to portage
Yeah away from the river. So that should be cool.
Maybe those lakes back in there have some fish
We're gonna do a loop and probably spend all day out.
So bring the camera. I'm gonna bring one bag
Fishing rod everybody's just getting ready now to go.
Look at that teamwork
Well boys
just go
that way.
Here we go.
Well,
mr. Martin
just got a
nice little
pike. I'm
not jealous
this scrumptious oh so I got one on I
think it's a pike try and show you guys
I've had two already I haven't got them
into the boat cuz I'm trying to film oh
she's a bass she's
a big one there we go
what size that guy well bam
nice big bass big bass that's
a bucket mouth let them
go fishing and another one back
to back let them run I got
a big bass last time
yeah big I think it was a large mouth to be honest
but this feels like a bass as
well yeah
not as big
too bad gonna let
this guy go
too I don't
think so I'm
not sure
I didn't really look
on that one so we've just
pulled up at the end of the
lake so we started way way down there
and we're on this just one lake off the
off the river but it's so nice here there's just so much boulders and
Canadian Shield scrambling on the rock
and it just goes forever man this place
is awesome like there's Sean way up there he's got
his shotgun and we're
looking for some geese I guess
or some ducks told him not to Dick Cheney us
don't
Dick
Cheney
me bro
you've
done
well
grasshopper
further
down
river
it's
only a short channel up till we
do that at lunch you do that today if you want
It's actually a good creek coming up from here,
right up to it, if you had a little bit more water.
So we got this mushroom here hanging up in the branch.
And Martin was asking, why is it there? How did that get there?
And I believe...
Go ahead.
Anti-climactic.
Drying rack.
Squirrel.
Fluffy squirrel.
We're done now.
Did you get him?
Oh, sweet.
What's on the menu tonight, eh?
Where is he?
Oh, yeah, yeah.
He's up to my neck or a massive one.
At least you got your fire steel on you.
look at that what
you want hey no
meat room should
be mature enough
to pluck
nicely too
so we can actually pluck it and roast it on a stick
or something go show the boys what's for
dinner there's our dinner tonight courtesy
of Sean and Martin a wood duck hen
and a largemouth bass
the oven ready and bake a cake a cake you say
a cake what kind of oven is that this is a
I'm not sure exactly something like that something like
that from Sweden that's where all the good
things come from oh
I got Bannock too
but that's another
so there's
Doug's fancy
reflector oven
he's making us a cake with M&M peanuts
so that's the bird all plucked can you tell where you got
him yeah so a couple pellets hit there there all the way through
and then there because I
on this side of her very cool i'm looking forward
to that so we got some more food for the table
that's the bass that this guy caught that's
the bass who caught the bass i caught the bass
sneaking off doing your scrambled stuff
we got flies we got flies guys all right check out
this spread look at that spread
check out that spread we got uh duck fish bannock
and cake living large we're just waiting
on the wood duck which
is on the spit super bushcraft style you know that's how i like to
keep it keeping it real keeping it real guys
this is the wood duck wood duck this is the wood duck
what did you just say come on just get getting a
piece of the wood duck we've eaten the merganser
and the bass look at that look at that meat look
at it that was nice and tender yeah that
That is a
good duck.
Some bannock.
Oh, butter,
look
at that.
I think you're all right.
I'm all right, guys.
I'm all right, guys.
I shouldn't have held it back, bud.
Are we having
communion?
What do you think, boys?
This is a pretty good trip, or what?
Best trip ever.
Good times.
Yeah, I can't tell you much better than that.
Yeah.
Can't say enough about the weather.
Can't say enough about the weather.
You're right.
Company could be a little better, but you know.
Oh, piss.
Look what you did.
Got the lid on.
Look what you did.
You little jerk.
You little Kevin.
Is it morning, huh?
We're
gonna
break
down
camp now
and move
closer
to the
car for
the last
night
We've got
a couple
rapids
we can
go fish
and run
should
be good.
You got
a pike?
There he
goes.
Hey, dude
I'm tired guys. We ended up moving camps.
I paddled for a couple hours
Ran some rapids, portaged around some rapids, Sean shot a goose.
So we're gonna eat some goose for supper tonight, which is cool
He's just go over there paddling over to the guys who are on an island
We decided to split up to see which island was which campsite was best
The site I'm on now turned out to be the best one
so Sean's just paddling over there to those guys to get them to come
Over we're gonna set up, hang out, cook a goose
Should be a good time. It's our last night here, so yeah, good times, man
This is one of the better trips of this year
for me lots of new stuff, lots of fun stuff
This place is wild
this place is really cool.
Let's start grabbing some firewood
looking around for some anyway
I think we'll be able
to find something here.
Hopefully some hardwood.
There is an abundance
of dead
Hardwood. Nope. Just talking to the camera
And I've already collected a bunch but here we have
What is it
sugar maple
live and then
dead next
to it timber
seeing
as how it's the
last night
tonight
I don't think I want to set up my tent
I think I want to just sleep under stars
I got this little five by seven tarp
I put it down put my sleeping pad on top of that,
but it's also on some moss
So it's nice and comfortable anyway,
and then I think I'll just lay on half the tarp and if it rains
I'm just going to fold the tarp over top of myself like a blanket
and call it good. Like I said, it's the last night
I'm not worried about getting my gear wet.
I'm not worried about getting wet. It's warm
So that'd be kind of cool good way to end the trip
We've got quite a bit of meat
for tonight off of that goose. That is
That's
gonna
be a
meal.
Me too.
No, that's good.
You're always ruining my stuff bro.
Thin slicing the Canada goose that we shot earlier today.
We had to fight off a bald eagle for this guy.
True story. It's a true story.
No fabrication.
And we are going to stir-fry this and then put it on wraps for a
fantastic Mexican meal
of Canada goose. Yes. We're
making goose fajitas,
courtesy of Sean.
The first one didn't go over well with the audience here,
so I figured, how's it gonna work?
You know.
Taco seasoning?
Yes.
Taco seasoning?
Love you.
I'll have to have another
with taco seasoning.
Well, this is camping
with Doug.
This is the second night in a row
we're eating off the land, as it were.
Pretty
cool.
Just have me take the Olympic
torch out here, Doug.
Well, we're all up pretty early this morning.
It started raining decent last night at around 9, 9.30.
We're all up pretty early this morning.
Started reading.
We're all up pretty early
this morning.
Doug's here, as you can hear.

to keep my distance
