-- JULY 18-20...NOT AUG. Myself and a friend set out, each in our solo canoes, for a 3 day, 2 night adventure that would take us through a couple small lakes, and two long stretches of the Nipissing and Tim Rivers.
Two friends, who met through YouTube, embark on a three-day canoeing and fishing trip in Algonquin Park. After a day of portaging and paddling, they spend their second day focusing on catching various fish species, preparing a campfire feast, and enjoying the wilderness before heading home.
More manly than
chocolate chip
oatmeal in the woods.
Hey guys, I'm in Algonquin Park with my buddy, Sean.
We're doing three days.
Yesterday was our first day.
We got in early, paddled around.
Do you admit what we're doing?
Portaged.
We didn't fish.
Didn't fish at all.
So today, today's not a big day.
Yesterday we put in a little bit of distance to get here.
Today's not a big day at all.
We're gonna devote the day to fishing,
even though I'm here.
we'll see what happens
so it's a good day yesterday it was uh not too buggy not too
hot and it didn't rain it was supposed
to thunderstorm we got a couple drops
yeah looking forward to today looking forward for some fish in my belly
when we get
our boats we
left them
at the other
end of the
portage
i tried
out some
fishing last
night so we don't have to do the portage
with our with our boats just this morning just our gear
that's a that's a nice thing
and then i think we've only got maybe five or six hundred meters
There's a portage broken up today,
if not even that.
We tried some fish and Sean lied to me
and said don't bring food, we'll eat tons of trout.
I had
rice.
Some blueberries left over,
surprise they're still around.
Tasty.
Yeah,
no doubt.
You made that look
so much easier than me.
It's
not
over.
I got a decent sized perch here, throw that guy in the pot.
We've got three smaller than this trout,
a couple of chubs, a small perch, and then this guy.
Pardon?
No.
No, no.
I'm talking to the camera.
I'm not gonna get much meat off this guy,
but combined with the other five or six fish we have,
they're all relatively the same size.
We'll get a meal and put it with some bannock
or something too.
That's done.
I'm getting hungry.
We're gonna cook up those fish now.
So I'm just gonna get some firewood.
I'm gonna do
a couple of
different
methods.
This is how I'm back here.
Protect my eyes from these twigs.
Last thing
I want,
the old stick
in the eye.
Fire pit so that we can actually cook on it
instead of big thing that we're gonna have a bonfire in,
which we're not gonna do.
Nice level spot for the grill to go on.
You get a fire going behind it and then push the coals in.
And then the chimney rock at the back,
higher rocks that draw the smoke
into the back of the pot
so it's more like cooking in an oven
instead of just in the frying pan.
You're making me hungry.
So here's our pot O fish, menage a fish.
There's a perch, fall fish, fall fish,
slippery fish, perch, and then there is,
did you, what are these ones?
That's the, Sean caught a monster fall fish, like,
I don't know, not even comparable to the other size ones.
And then he's also got two little brookies in there.
I caught two brookies as well,
but that's what everybody likes about me, you know.
Yeah, there you go.
Fish, fish crisp,
fried fish to do.
Stuff one of these fish.
We've got some stuffing here, breadcrumbs, onion, garlic, pepper.
We'll see which one we like the best.
Something you don't want to try at home
when you're cooking for your family,
your wife, because she's probably not going to like it,
but these little parasites in their flukes, I think, they're
You can pop those out easy enough, get rid of them.
They don't do anything to harm the meat,
but they also don't do any harm once you cook them to eat them either,
so generally just leave them in there.
That and the little black parasites.
So I'm just cutting it open so I can stick a little bit
of the stuffing right directly inside the fish
So it cooks all nice
with some flavor.
So we're just gonna stick
that right at the edge of
Edge of the
fire not over
the coals so it
cooks slowly.
Otherwise
it'll burn.
Tender. Mm-hmm
Yeah, that stuff really falls apart.
And that's the fall fish. Fall fish. All right.
And test out the fall fish. Cheers.
You know the good thing about it
is that trout in Algonquin,
or trout anywhere,
they're at risk, somewhat,
especially by the time you can put pressure
on another fish that can take it off the trout.
Algonquin, bass, perch, fall fish, great target.
Yeah, those perch eat the eggs, eh?
Yeah, brook trout fry.
Now I'm going to open up the perch, which is like a stuffed perch here.
And then we have our fire roasted fall fish.
I wanted to do this just to get a real sense
of what it actually tastes like without spices
without spices and fish crisp and stuffing
and stuff on it so to me that's something if i was
hungry forgot food or didn't bring
as much food like i've done on other trips including this one
and that that's probably i got how i'm gonna have
to eat i'm not gonna have spices but
i'll see how that tastes i'm sure it's fine
but also sure it's not as good as trout
perch and stuffed fall
fish steam coming off
of that that smells good
look at that monster perch
she's tasty
though that's
a real deal
full moon too
beautiful
morning
actually got
pretty chilly
last night and the most dew i've ever experienced i went i went without
the tent fly and the inside
of my sleeping bag or sorry inside of my tent
and the outside of my sleeping bag drenched there's a
puddle in the bottom of my tent
so if uh if it wasn't the last night i would have put my fly on
when i saw the dew or when i realized it was going to be dewy night
but no more sleeps out here so
i'm not too concerned about it we've got
a pretty decent day ahead of us it's uh 7 20 in the morning
and he'll probably be going until about two i think until we get
to the car and a nice long
drive home
it's been a
good trip
we've had a
lot of fun
all right
folks i'm
in my own
car now we
We got done canoeing back to the car at around 3 p.m.
It's now 7 p.m.
Sean and I drove to his house in his vehicle.
And then strapped up the canoe on here, and I'm heading home.
So I had a great time.
