Police search for suspect who stole BMW from Dublin car wash

We were just a little bit in shock because this community is really nice. J.R. Ibarra in shock after this was captured by a surveillance camera at his local Dublin car wash. We saw that there was nobody watching the cars for a few seconds, and so he walked up to the car, opened the door really calmly, and then just drove away. The thief taking off with a BMW X5 SUV, which he says his wife purchased for his mother-in-law, for more than $100,000. It happened Saturday afternoon at the Autopia Car Wash on Dublin Boulevard, shortly after his nephew dropped it off to be washed. My nephew was sitting here where everybody sits on the left. You drop off your car, you leave the keys like in the seat. It's part of the process. I mean, the car wash tells you to leave the keys in the car. Autopia Car Wash telling KTVU on Sunday that it prefers for its customers to wait with their vehicle until an attendant arrives, but out of convenience, they are also able to leave their keys inside. In a statement, the company adding, quote, during our 30 years in business, our customers and their vehicles have always been a top priority. We are cooperating with law enforcement as they investigate. We are in contact with the vehicle's owner and will continue to support them however we can as this is resolved. It's disappointing. In this community, that has never really happened before at this car wash. So the patrons, the people that come here feel really comfortable and everybody leaves their keys in the in the seat. It apparently happened in a matter of seconds after his nephew left the car. Ibarra says he was told that the suspect had a distinctive tattoo. The guy had a Aztec calendar on his stomach, a tattoo, according to the employees. And so if anybody knows a guy with an Aztec calendar on their stomach. Ibarra also hopeful that his family's experience will serve as a warning. That they shouldn't leave their keys in the car seat, even at a car wash, because it can get stolen. Yeah, certainly good advice considering how quickly this happened. Police are asking anyone with information on this crime or anyone who might recognize the suspect to reach out. Mike? Yeah, hopefully those leads can come in and an arrest can be made. Zach Sauce live tonight in Dublin. Zach, thank you.
