Also new this hour, some changes are coming
to short-term rentals in the city of Sarasota.
The city just voted to expand short-term rental regulations.
FOX 13's Kimberly Cuison explains what's happening.
Short-term rental regulations have now been expanded
into the downtown Sarasota neighborhood zones.
This came at the request of residents after complaints of noise,
trash, and a lot of cars from the short-term rentals.
The regulations were already in place for areas like Lido Beach
and St. Armand Circle.
The city will also be working on a new way
of advertising the regulations.
The city says there's about 50 short-term rentals within
the downtown neighborhood areas that will have to register.
The improvements that we're proposing are really
a culmination of feedback that I've gotten over
the last five years of administering the program.
and of course there's it is balancing it's balancing the wants
and needs of every different
person. The commission also wants more information
on the cost of inspections for short-term rentals
and the outcomes of the inspections.
City commissioners asked the city manager to
schedule a round table with stakeholders
and operators of short-term rentals to see how the
program is going. From Sarasota, Kimberly Cuison, Fox 13 News.
