for sponsoring this video now folks let's dive right
into the the Austin Voth stats here so
last year or 2024 sorry
with the Seattle Mariners he pitched 68 games good for a 3.69
ERA 61 innings pitched now again
this is a minor league signing yes he's had some rough years but he
has experience and this is someone
who's pitched over 200 games at the major league level some
successful some not and overall in 2022 even had
a really solid year as well really started a bunch
of games and usually right these signings i downplay them
a little bit and i say okay you
know he might not make a huge deal
but you know every minor league signing is i love talking about
the minor league moves with Cody Ponce's injury folks they uh
the jays might be forced to actually
make a couple minor league moves sooner rather than later
and i'm not saying it's going to be
Austin Voth who's going to be called up first
but you know it could be Adam Macko we can see here
he has pitched more in relief lately than as a starter during his stint
but he has and he did
You start yesterday or a couple of days ago for Buffalo folks.
So given that Bieber, Savage, Brios,
and now Ponce are on the injured list,
both will continue to stretch out to serve
as some experienced starting depth with the Jays top affiliate.
So let me know below what your thoughts are on this signing,
because at the end of the day here,
this isn't one that is going to blow up headlines,
but it's only had to talk about
because we got the updates surrounding Cody Ponce
that he has a right ACL sprain
and that he is going to miss significant time.
more doctors are going to look at the MRI
to determine if surgery is needed and the Blue Jays
still have slight hope that he can pitch again this year
but the next doc will decide that so
folks it is an ACL injury at this juncture we don't know
if it's a you know an ACL tear if he's
going to miss the entire year
but man oh man is this absolutely devastating and there was some
hope that he was only going to miss you know
a few weeks with a hyperextension it is unfortunately
an ACL injury which I mean it's gonna it's less common
for pitchers I guess you know usually the
big one is Tommy John surgery,
but he's going to miss a significant amount of time. And the Jays
do not have a lot of depth in the pipeline here.
Yes, you have Shane Bieber, who's a ways away,
but you have Brios and Savage, who are about
a couple of weeks away from being able to return.
Who are they going to use in the meantime?
They called up Lazaro Estrada yesterday. Are they
going to send down Brandon Little
and maybe call up a guy like Adam Macko, Austin, both who could
provide them some length that if they don't want
to mess with Adam Macko's development, there's a
lot of options here. But Schneider talked about Cody Ponce as well
and spoke to him personally
He said, I talked to him for a while last night.
So there's a couple nights going out at this
point was up until like one in the morning
and he's got a pretty good perspective
and I think he's frustrated for sure, but I think
he has a pretty good perspective on it.
So absolutely devastating folks at really,
really unfortunate prayers up to him and his
family to finally be able to make his return
to the MLB got a hefty contract from the Jays
look dominant in the two innings, right?
Like it looked pretty good.
Maybe not dominant.
He looked really solid to go down with an injury
that might cost him his entire year
is rough.
The same time, all you can do is rehab
and hope that the Jays are in a playoff spot.
Maybe he can come back and be kind
of what Marcus Stroman was back in 2015, even though
Stroman got injured like before spring
training a month before the season.
Let's let's hope Cody Ponce can make a similar impact to what he did.
But regarding the Jays plans now going forward.
So John Schneider said that they plan to keep
their starters on the current schedule and
not move them up around off days.
Ponce's spot Ponce's spot next comes up Sunday.
So they could have, I think, push like Scherzer a game ahead
who looked dominant yesterday,
by the way.
But they don't want to do that.
And I agree with that.
you're way too early in the season to risk any sort
of injury more injury to your starters too
much wear and tear on your starters at this point there's no point
also with the bullpen are they
going to do a bullpen game next uh you know next
go around we're going to have to wait and see it
could be Austin Both it could be any of these guys
but for now it is kind of a play by air situation
and luckily Max Scherzer was able
to give them some big big depth yesterday six innings one run
four hits one walk four k's which is exactly what the jays needed
and for a 41 year old to be able
to do that's incredible you were able to get away
with just using a couple guys out of the bullpen
and obviously got Jeff Hoffman some run
as well yesterday was a crucial game because if you go
out and Scherzer has a rough start right
and you're looking at a bullpen game again it can
snowball very very quickly especially
when you have a not you know exactly a healthy rotation
at this point I mean you're down now Cody Ponce
was projected to start like a bunch of games right
and at this juncture now you have Cease, Gosman,
Scherzer, Lauer as your healthy starting pitchers
They're going to need to bring someone
up, and we don't know exactly who that is.
Spencer Miles struggled there
the other day as kind of the long relief guy.
Usually, Eric Lauer would be that kind of guy
in the bullpen, but because of their injuries,
he's unable to do so.
He has to actually be a starter.
So it's going to be quite the interesting
next few weeks, and that's why the signing,
I wanted to bring it up with Austin Both.
They might need a guy like that.
But yeah, let me know what your thoughts are on that.
A few other things as well.
Yesterday's game was fantastic.
You have Max Scherzer going crazy.
You have Kazuma Okamoto smoking a high-velocity fastball.
But I quickly want to make this note,
Kazuma Okamoto has faced the second best stuff in
baseball.
So best stuff plus, which is basically just
a number to evaluate pitchers, how good a
stuff is, right?
He has went up against the toughest pitches
and pitchers in the MLB outside of Kyle Carroll.
So for him to be doing what he's doing,
struggled a little bit yesterday, a bit indecisive and
a pretty funny challenge there.
At least he finally challenged one.
He looks amazing.
But this team in general, that was a huge
win, bounce back win yesterday.
You're coming off of the bad vibes, the loss,
the bad vibes of the Cody Ponce injury.
You come out, Scherzer shuts them down.
And then beyond that, you're able to get a string of hits going.
You're able to see Jesus Sanchez, who,
by the way, thank you to the Marlins for trading
him.
I think there's going to be an unbelievable asset to this team.
He came out after the game and said how much
he loves this team, that he's never been a
part of a team that has the vibes that the Jays do.
I'm paraphrasing a little bit,
but the electric atmosphere vibes are super high.
Keep Jesus Sanchez in every step of the way.
Keep stacking up wins before the Dodgers in a couple of weeks.
folks that'll wrap it up let me know down below
if you heard about the awesome both signing and
also make sure to check us out um on spotify
and everything like that but check out also autopilot
