Blue Jays make NEW trade... Multiple HUGE Updates | Toronto Blue Jays News
Oct 21, 2026
Some big news to go over today, folks.
The Toronto Blue Jays have made a new trade
as they have officially traded former prospect
and former shortstop, Leo Jimenez,
We're going to break down the trade and discuss who they
got back in return.
But not only that, we have a ton of updates to go over today,
including some injury stuff,
some comments from the players following
an electric weekend as they swept the Athletics.
And now look ahead to the series starting
tonight against the Rockies, folks.
You want to stay tuned to the very end of the video
because there is a lot of intriguing
stats that people aren't talking about that we took from this weekend.
to break down on this episode for you all
but before we get into it if you're part of the
percentage who aren't subscribed to the channel
this is the place to be for daily Jays content
now folks i didn't have a video post game yesterday
but the Jays did exactly what the
Jays do i of course watched the entire game
and it was very very fun and the team is just on fire
right now it is three games but it's time for overreactions
but then later last night we got
a report from Ben Nichols and Smith that started with sources Blue Jays
and the Marlins have agreed
to a trade that will send Leo Jimenez to Miami
and then about a little bit later per Francis
Romero on Twitter of course we know Francis Romero
the return going to the Blue Jays for
Leo Jimenez is double-A
and 250,000 in international bonus pool money now they were
going to trade Leo Jimenez right obviously
his options he didn't have any options so they were
going to move off of him and then ultimately
the question was are they going to DFA him or trade him
and they ultimately traded him
and got a uh i guess an interesting prospect back i'm going to
dive into Dubbleed a good bit here
but first i do want to dive into Leo Jimenez now people are
talking about how this is the Adolfo Lopez situation all over again where
the Jays had a prospect who
was out of options i believe Adolfo Lopez was out
of options at the time correct me down below if i'm
wrong but ultimately they ultimately traded him
and Adolfo Lopez has kind of shined with the Marlins
he hasn't been a leap but he's been pretty darn good
and good for team Canada and of course played
in the WBC for Canada this one is i don't think we're going
to be too too uh leo jimenez he was
between him and Davis Schneider to make
the team once they picked Davis it was clear that they are
you know obviously at Leo Jimenez time was up in Toronto
but he is a patient third baseman with a
knack for pulling the ball he was a ninth round pick
a couple years ago and has produced an above
average rate throughout his career good for 124 wRC plus
in the minors he has limited power upside
so this isn't a prospect that is going
to completely you know change much at the end of
the day here it is good to be able to get
a younger player back now he's 24 years old i believe i may
made that up 23 years old so he's 23 years old
of course was drafted in 2024 so he's not super young
but replacing a good solid prospect at times
in Leo Jimenez with another prospect that you know
that's potential right you never really know a bit
of a lottery ticket is pretty cool right it's
fairly exciting now at the same time we look at kind
of what the team you know what the team needs
right now this isn't a massive trade
but something to keep an eye out from it is of course going to
be that it is some more infield depth philosophy
that the prospect system with the Leo Jimenez
being gone or at least they were going to but he is an infielder
so you can see here again put up
124 wRC plus last season while playing serviceable corner infield
the walk rate is huge but there's
not power he's 22 so i said 23 so he's 22
and he already hit triple A who knows who knows is right
and ultimately here folks he you can have a look
at his stats obviously put up .853 OPS in the
Florida Complex League and rookie ball
this year like he has some upside right he's hit at the
minor league level he's had up and down seasons he's
not going to be someone who hits for any
power two home runs in his what three or four year career
but he's a guy who maybe they use in the
future going forward if they need infield depth
and that's the biggest piece here they got an
infielder or someone at least who can play infield back
and you replace that in Leo Jimenez though i
do think Leo Jimenez is probably
a better prospect ultimately you trade for a guy who's out of
options for a guy who has options let me know down below what
your thoughts are not a huge trade but
a new trade and one that we do want to cover
because of course Leo Jimenez he was pretty
darn close to making the team we saw him last
year struggled obviously at the major league
level struggled in spring training
and just wasn't quite able to put it together even in that brutal
2024 season finished with the .686 OPS that was really
his biggest tryout Keegan Matheson was
on my channel i think a couple years ago saying he's one
of the key guys to watch for a breakout
he kind of almost had it at times
in 2024 ultimately never got it to play a heck of a
shortstop but he didn't uh it won't be with Toronto
and we'll see if he's Otto Lopez v2 for
the Marlins or if he remains kind of a uh you know
the fringe MLB player but speaking of this team
and non-fringe MLB players i want to start
with the stats surrounding Dylan Cease now you can see
this right here he already has a zero
and you're reading this right a 0.4 fWAR after just one start
as a member of the Jays which is more value than
the often Scherzer Bieber You Savage and Bautin
Francis combined in 2025 Bautin got 14 starts last year pitched
to a 6.05 ERA right now i do
want to clarify like Scherzer Bieber didn't get
a ton of starts You Savage like he obviously earned
more than this 0.4 so it's a bit disingenuous to compare those two
or those I guess those what is
it four yeah those four but Dylan Cease did put up
a 0.4 FIP in his first game now in the same vein
it's one start right if he has a bad next start
that instantly goes back down to zero negative
right but at the same time it goes to show
and highlight how darn good this team truly is and
You could have had all the predictions in the world.
I'll bring back up my standings predictions from before the season.
I had the Jays finishing first in the AL East.
I'm going to keep these up here as receipts,
but I had Dylan Cease at a 2.95 ERA.
I was as high on Dylan Cease as anyone approaching this season
or heading into this season.
He just looked incredible.
And for him to already accumulate that much
of an effort is crucial, especially when you
have rotation all of a sudden that you pair
with Eric Lauer, who looked really good.
They have like eight starters, or they will soon.
That can, you know, start.
Are they going to have
the first eight-man rotation in the major leagues?
Obviously, jokes aside, they won't.
We can even see this here.
Eric Lauer continued the Jays' strong stretch of starters to insane
strong stretch of starters to start.
That's insane.
Strong stretch of starters to start
the season with nine Ks and 5.1 innings pitched.
Shout out to TJ Stats there.
He had a hell of a start, and he was able
to keep the Oakland Athletics bats,
I guess not the Oakland Athletics, the Athletics bats in order.
And that was something that heading into this series,
like the Athletics are supposed to be very, very good offensively.
I think they will be a very good offensive team.
The bats always take a little bit longer and trail behind the pitchers.
But the Jays were able to neutralize it thoroughly,
folks, neutralize it absolutely thoroughly.
And they did so through a very, you know, variety of ways.
But looking at this screenshot here
from Baseball Savant, look at Statcast.
Look at the exit velocities.
And when we saw Jesus Sanchez get a green light on 3-0 with Vladimir
Guerrero Jr. on deck, that's how much they trust Jesus Sanchez.
he crushed a ball. Springer was crushing balls,
even though, of course, he had the first pitch
home run yesterday, but he also had a line out.
Tyler Heineman, they're getting production from
their 7-8-9 hitters, and now you get Barger,
hopefully, and Vladdy getting fully going.
The team is in a very, very good position,
folks, a very good position, and it's one that
you can't really understate here,
especially with how good they have been. Now, John Schneider spoke
on Blue Jays pitcher striking out 50 in this series
to go back on the topic about how good the starters
have been? I think Pete Walker has a clause
in his contract that may have just escalated or
triggered. And he's obviously joking.
I'm not joking in the sense of like, this is the best
rotation I may have, at least to start the season
on paper ever seen in my lifetime as a Jays fan.
And even Kazuma Okamoto, Kazuma Okamoto,
he said via his interpreter, Vladdy is a guy I really look
up to. He's been teaching me a lot.
He's taking me under his wing. It's been awesome so far.
We saw Kazuma hit a absolute, not even a moonshot,
like an effortless opposite field home run. The
team is just deep they're incredible
and obviously over there in New York they're booing Bo Bichette
already Bo is going to find his stroke right
that was never the question but with more and more
playing time that we're seeing now
from Andres Jimenez playing short Kazuma Okamoto playing third
you can kind of see the vision about why they
were maybe hesitant to give Bo Bichette that big
contract they got Kazuma Okamoto
and man what an exciting time to be a Jays fan we even say
Jesus Sanchez in his first start crush
a ball you can see here from Zach Marshall credit to whoever
gave Jesus Sanchez the green light 3-0 with Vlad
on deck want to build a player's confidence this
is how you do it and Jesus Sanchez
is a player who probably didn't have a ton of
confidence going into this season before being traded
to Blue Jays struggle for the past that
year and plus now he's a Jay things
are right things feel great folks another game tonight
hope you guys all enjoyed stay tuned for more
