It will be a somber day Tuesday across Philadelphia as funeral services are held for fallen Officer Shane Seiber.
The somber goodbye has begun
for a Philadelphia police officer killed in the line of duty.
Officer Shane Sieber was killed in an ambush over a week ago
in West Philadelphia and will be laid to rest today.
This was the scene just minutes ago
that we showed you live on Action News.
Officers escorting Officer Sieber's casket
into the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in Center City.
There from the action cam on the ground and there,
Chopper 6 Live, as everyone prepares to say their final goodbyes.
Action News reporter Catherine Scott has been watching
this herself right from that view outside the cathedral
and joins us live with what's going on now.
Good morning, Catherine.
Good morning.
The procession arrived here shortly after 6 a.m.
Officer Sieber's casket was taken inside as officers saluted.
The public visitation is set to begin at 8
a.m. and the funeral is set for noon.
But let's go to that video from early this morning.
The funeral procession started early
in Northeast Philadelphia at the funeral home,
and you could see Officer Sieber's casket being carried out.
Officers stood in salute as his casket was placed
in the hearse for the funeral procession.
The hearse left the funeral home,
made its way down to police headquarters,
where the casket was placed in a caisson
and escorted on foot to the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul.
A solemn salute to Philadelphia Police Officer Shane Sieber,
who lost his life in the line of duty on October 10th
while responding to a call in West Philadelphia.
Officer Sieber's partner was also shot and is recovering.
This morning, officers walked shoulder to shoulder,
led by the police commissioner,
ultimately made their way up Ben Franklin Parkway to the Basilica.
Officer Sieber grew up in Bucks County
and was an Air Force veteran who served two tours in Iraq,
a member of the Philadelphia Police Department for 10 years.
He was married to Lisa, a fourth-grade teacher, had two children,
fathered a seven-year-old Finn and three-year-old Emily.
Apparently, Sieber never stopped smiling.
Those who knew him called him Colgate because of that.
Apparently, he just had that big smile.
He would flash everywhere.
It is a solemn, somber, devastating day here as his friends
and colleagues are laying him to rest.
Again, the funeral is set to take place at noon.
We're live at the Cathedral Basilica.

Yeah, Catherine, he will certainly be missed.
I can just keep thinking about his family this morning
and praying for them as well.
Thank you, Catherine.
