More election news for you.
So, Harris County and three other big-time surrounding counties
are reporting record-breaking or near record-breaking numbers
for the first day of early voting so far.
But it doesn't really mean that that will last, right?
Fox 26's Randy Wallace joining us now with more on that.
Randy.
Yeah, Anthony.
Now, obviously, there's a lot of interest in the November 3rd election.
And Monday's high voter turnout raises questions.
Does the high turnout for the first day mean
a record turnout for this election?
not necessarily. Now,
does it mean there's more first-time voters than ever before?
We are a few days away from knowing the answer to that one.
Monday's numbers for early voting
in Fort Bend County are impressive. 31,793 voters
cast ballots. That's just about 500 shy
of first-day voting in the 2024 presidential race.
The 31,793 voters almost doubled first-day voting
in the 2022 midterm and 2018 midterm.
18,837 ballots were cast in Montgomery County on Monday.
Impressive when you compare it to a little more than 20,000
for the first day in the 2024 presidential race.
13,656 voters showed up at polls Monday in Galveston County.
2022 midterms saw only 8,604 early voters.
Well, we're excited.
Yesterday was a large turnout, larger than anticipated.
We had just shy of 14,000 votes at 13,656.
We believe this is a record for governor's races, not for presidential,
but it's very large, and we believe it's a record.
There are especially Democratic voters out there who have been chomping
at the bit to go out and cast a vote for James Tallarico,
Gina Hinojosa, and the other Democratic members of the ticket.
What is normally going to occur, though,
is that after this initial push, we'll see it level off.
Now, it may take a few days for it to level off,
but we'll likely see early voting begin to decline a little bit
and then rise up during the middle of next week
and then culminating on Friday,
which is often, along with the first Monday,
the busiest day for early voting.
So if you're interested in early voting,
the two worst days to do it are the first day,
this Monday, and next Friday, the last day.
Now remember, you can vote early this weekend.
Use the power and vote. Randy Wallace, Fox 26 News.
