Ballet Tuesdays are making a return to the Landmark Center today.
Yes, and it's free. The free show.
It's all about making the arts more accessible.
Shane Wells has more for us from St. Paul.
Good morning from the Landmark Center in St. Paul, where we're
giving you a little preview of Ballet Tuesdays, which returns today.
We have Amy Minow with us with the Landmark Center.
Take us back. This has been going on for quite some time,
this collaboration of bringing in a professional dance company.
Yes, since about 2012, so over 10 years, 10 plus years.
And what's the idea behind it?
Well, Landmark Center is all about accessible,
free programming for the arts,
so making it possible for people to enjoy and experience the arts,
especially some that are a little more elusive, like ballet.
It's a very popular one, but not always accessible to people.
What are you holding?
Hi, I'm holding, this is the craft
that will be going on for the program
after the dance performance
and then there's a dance lesson with the little
kiddos so always fun to watch they'll
be making these little dance characters
yeah that's happening from 12
to 1 today about once a month yes once a month not
every month there will be one in November
then they start up again in the
spring and landmarkcenter.org our website
is the best source for getting
that information thank you I appreciate it
Zoe Henrose with us as well.
She's the founder of Ballet Collaboratory and her
dancers are putting on a show behind us right now.
Okay, so I always think of little kids as
I was a dancer and the way they see ballerinas
and they see dancers and they just kind of light up.
You get to see that front row,
you're not in a stage where it's all dark around,
you get to see everything. What is that like?
Well, you can never know exactly what's
gonna happen. Sometimes they come on stage with us.
We are kind of used to
working with younger kids in our school
because we start at age three and then here a lot of them
come and they dance with us at the end of the program
and then the dancers do crafts with them
as well so it's really a way to break
that fourth wall between the professional artist and then
aspiring young artists
and it's a nice short concise like like a concise show for kids too
who we know have short attention spans yes
and it's only becoming shorter so we try to keep the
dancing portion to like 30 or 35 minutes
and then after that the dance with us is inspired by
whatever ballet they just saw
so they get to be the different characters and then the craft is
also inspired by the ballet so that's why we're doing little dolls
because there's a whole toy
shop scene in Coppélia. Thank you
so much for the time I appreciate it thanks for getting the
dancers here early this morning too as they have
a long day ahead this show again happens from 12
to 1 today it is free here at the Landmark Center
and next month they're doing their version of
Nutcracker as well, but that will send it back to you.
