Our hands, a new Sixers era, kicking off in New York City tonight. The first game of LeBron on Philly. King James charging into his first Sixers season. The team ready to crush the defending champs, the Knicks. New York had a good year. I really feel good about the Sixers going into this year. And we are ready to watch the team dig deeper into the process. The Fox 29 News at 5. Go Sixers! Starts now. The start of a brand new season for our 76ers. A live look at New York City tonight. We are now less than two hours away from the Sixers taking on the Knicks at Madison Square Garden. And the King himself, LeBron James, making his Sixers debut. This is the News at 5. I'm Sheba Russell. From his initial announcement back in July that he would be coming to Philly until now, we have been eagerly waiting for this night. throw the ball up one of my big messages this year is what are we going to commit to every single night we're going to get the best from every single team that we play against everybody has the same goal day by day keep getting better earning trust and earning respect we gotta have an unbreakable bond this team is extremely competitive scrap and claw fight leave it all out on the floor it's gonna be electric the sixers posting this hype video on social today interviews with the players the starting five fans just bringing us chills we are ready and philly is in new york city tonight we've got team coverage our chris o'connell is checking in with fans in times square oh no he's moved over to the garden all right so that's where he is but let's start with scott grayson on the court at msg hey there scott hey sheba how you doing Yeah, great night here. The gates just opened here at Madison Square Garden. We're starting to see some fans start trickling in. But I want to get out of the way and let you take a look. Some of the Sixers already out here getting a couple of shots up before some of the other players start coming out. As far as some of the names you may recognize, really just the rookie, Lebron Filon Jr. He's out here, his first NBA game tonight ever, and he will be playing alongside some big-time stars for this. This Philadelphia 76ers roster now includes LeBron James, Jalen Brown, Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, B.J. Edgecombe. We're going to see it all on display here at Madison Square Garden very soon, just a couple hours away. Now, as far as all that star power goes, along with that comes pressure. Here's Tyrese Maxey discussing that. You prepare, you know, that takes the pressure away. You know what I'm saying? And like my dad used to tell me, proper preparation prevents poor performance. So it's like for us, we're trying to prepare the right way. So when we get out there to force to perform, it's time to execute what we've got to execute. All right, let's take a look at our go vote for tonight as well. We want to know which of the Sixers starters is going to have the biggest impact tonight. I think you can pick any one of the five, really, and they're likely going to have a pretty good impact. Let me take a look over here right now. I'm actually leading that vote, by the way. This is Andre Drummond. You may remember him from the Sixers. He now plays for the Knicks, saying hello to a couple of people as well. Again, warm-up started, and we're getting ready for what is going to be an amazing night, the first-ever game for LeBron James in a Philadelphia 76ers jersey. Same thing holding true for Jalen Brown, who was traded here from the Celtics. This is where the Sixers' season ended about five or six months ago. This roster looks very, very different. We'll continue to monitor everything here from down on the floor at Madison Square Garden, live. I'm Scott Grayson. Let's send it back to you, Sheba. Scott, I would imagine you're going to see a whole bunch of celebrities there tonight because these tickets are so expensive. I don't know who else can afford to go tonight, really. Yeah, no, I think that's right. I'm going to keep my eye out for it, of course. I mean, I keep thinking about the ones that are right here by us are like $25,000 tonight to get in. It's amazing. Yeah, you might see. Say hi to Tracy Morgan for me when you see her. I'll look for her. All right. Scott, thank you. To Chris O'Connell now, just a few blocks. Well, he's right outside MSG now. So, Chris, are you seeing any Sixers fans out there? A few, but I will say very few. We did catch up with a couple of them. Yeah, welcome to Madison Square Garden for the NBA opening night where, as Scott was saying, two very different storylines colliding here. Of course, the New York Knicks are going to be celebrating their championship. They're going to be raising a championship banner. They're going to be getting their championship rings. But on the other side, for the 76ers, a new era begins with a new star and new expectations. Yes, it is game one. It is the LeBron James era. It is official. He is in the building here at Madison Square Garden. It really feels like a playoff energy here tonight. Of course, the Knicks will raise their banner, but plenty of attention on the Sixers. LeBron James first regular season game in a Sixers uniform four-time NBA champion beginning a new chapter record-setting career this time in Philly for Sixers fans and some of them did make the trip to New York this is more than just an opening night game it's a chance to be there the beginning of the LeBron era and to see how this new group measures up against the defending champs. I'm just standing there with a bunch of people. I'm getting the looks. I'm being told wearing a Sixer jersey up here is crazy. I'm from Philly. I'm not going to take that out of me. New York had a good year. I really feel good about the Sixers going into this year, so I'm so excited. It's not going to take another 50 years, yo. Okay. How bad is it going to be when LeBron James spoils the night? He's not going to spoil our night. Outside of Madison Square Garden, if you were thinking of taking a trip up here for the next couple hours. You know, pack your wallet, Sheba. We checked. Last-minute prices to get into the game. We're talking about $2,000 for the nosebleeds. Another $20,000 if you want to be in the real expensive seats. So it is a historic night here for New York, historic night here for Philadelphia. And one other thing, NBA announcing that LeBron James will be wearing a 24 patch on all of his jerseys this year. Go Sixers, we got one. Wearing a patch on his jersey and it'll be removed after every game and that will be included in an ultra rare one-of-one trading card with all of his jersey patches on it this season. So a little something the NBA announcing today. Yeah, just one more thing to get the fans excited about. It still feels so unreal. I'm just pinching myself still, Chris, about this starting five with our Sixers. Yeah, it's amazing. We have playoff aspirations. But I can tell you, when it comes to fandom, Sheba, I don't like being up here. I don't. These Knicks fans are just, ah! I thought Dallas fans were bad. But, ooh, Knicks fans are really. We've got to send you to Xfinity Mobile Arena on Thursday then to make up for today. That's all right. I'm standing up here. You have thick skin, Chris. I'm sure you can handle yourself out there. Of course I can. Yeah. All right. Chris O'Connell, thank you.
