A distant nor’easter is tracking well offshore of Massachusetts, but it will still bring strong winds and coastal impacts to parts of the region. High surf, beach erosion, and dangerous rip currents are concerns, with wind gusts reaching 30 to 45 mph and the strongest winds in southeastern Massachusetts.
Here's your Boston 25 weather expert, Chief Meteorologist Sherry Spear.
So we'll have a little more cloud cover in the forecast today.
I'm thinking filtered sun in the Boston area starting in the 40s
and ending in the 50s.
So yesterday we had highs in the 60s.
By comparison, it feels a little cooler and heads up to,
for those of you on the Cape and the Islands,
gusts up to 45 miles per hour, rough surf.
We've got some Cape rain in the forecast tonight as well,
and it is because of this nor'easter, which barely clips us.
So unlike our last nor'easter that came in with the heavy rain
and the significant coastal impacts, this is a mostly miss for us.
What I do want to break down are some
of the wind gusts expected in a few of those showers as well.
Notice by noontime, we've got winds gusting about 30 miles
per hour in Boston, but 45 on Nantucket.
Strongest winds are going to come in from southeastern Mass.
Most of the day is dry with some increasing clouds,
but starting around 5, we've got some rain chances down on Nantucket.
You're going to see overnight we get some rain
for the Cape and the islands.
It doesn't get further than that.
We are going to keep it dry in Boston
and Providence and Worcester and Nashua.
It is Cape rain that lingers into early tomorrow morning,
but I bet you by 10 a.m. rain is over.
Still gusty, though, similar gusts to today.
We've got a north wind for tomorrow and gradually clearing skies.
So high temperatures today take a little bit of a hit.
We'll see highs in the 50s for today.
60s return tomorrow which is nice and we do get some ups
and downs in the temperature department
coming up so even though tomorrow warms up
a little bit you can see there's another drop on
the way friday and then a gradual warm-up heading
into the weekend as well friday saturday sunday
it's going to be nice and sunny out there
with lighter winds as well this is your weekend forecast
saturday and sunday and you can see that we've got
that warm-up in really beautiful conditions
maybe you have to do a little yard work maybe
you're cleaning up the leaves it looks like a
great weekend for that. We're
also going to keep it pretty bright next Monday as temperatures
continue to go up and then we'll see
another drop around Tuesday of next week.
