40 days left in the hurricane season.
Season goes all the way until November 30th.
Just look at where we've been so far this season.
Remember back at the beginning of the season,
NOAA comes out with their forecast.
Colorado State comes out with their initial forecast.
As the season goes on, they do adjust those numbers.
But what we're looking at here is those final numbers
that both NOAA and Colorado State settled in on.
Now, NOAA, they predict with a range.
Colorado State puts that exact number on each one of these elements.
So, NOAA predicted between about 7 to 13 named storms,
2 to 6 hurricanes, and between 0 and 2 major hurricanes.
Colorado State putting that at 9 named storms,
4 hurricanes, and 1 major hurricane.
You see where we actually have been so far this season,
right at nine named storms, one hurricane,
that one hurricane that we had, that became a major hurricane
in the Gulf and made landfall in the Florida Panhandle with Isaias.
And when you look at the average season,
and typically you'd see 14 named storms,
seven hurricanes, but in an El Nino season,
yeah, that number drops down, 10 named storms,
and then five of those becoming hurricanes.
So you see what this season has done so far.
Yeah, we're a little bit below on that storm names,
but we're much lower as far as hurricanes
are concerned what you would typically expect
to see during the El Nino. And that's because we have
this not only an El Nino, but a strong, a very strong El Nino in place.
That wind shear in the
atmosphere really inhibits these systems from developing.
So where is one area that we're
watching? This is actually a non-tropical low,
which is sitting off the east coast of the U.S.
it has been labeled as Invest 93
and about a 40 percent chance of development and the reason why
is because models are indicating as we go through
the next couple of days this may start to acquire
some tropical characteristics that's why they label this as an invest
because this may or could
become a subtropical system
but you see the track that it has it is just paralleling the coastline
then eventually moves out over open water
but it is causing some pretty gusty winds along the
northeast coast and some large waves as well
so that's the one area that we're watching now you
also look at this tropical cyclone outlook
and it's shading in this area off the east coast of
Florida over towards the Bahamas north of Cuba
as we go through this time period you see the time
period, October 28th through November 3rd.
So still about a week or so away just watching this
area. You'll look at some of the various computer models.
We're looking at the European, the AI
model from the European and also the GFS.
And you'll watch as we go through time, you see this
just this general idea that maybe some lower pressure.
So we're at least getting a little
signal as we head into the weekend,
maybe some lower pressure forming or trying to form off the
U.S. coastline off the coast of Florida.
But the other thing you notice is definitely some pretty
gusty winds moving back over the state
with that tight gradient over the state. So this is
obviously something that we'll pay attention to.
You look at the Fox weather model. Here's the area
off the coastline of, say, the Carolinas and Virginia.
So that moves away.
At the same time, you look down to our south,
you're starting to see a lot more moisture pushing out of the Caribbean
and then up over the Bahamas as we head towards the weekend.
So that is certainly another model
that is indicating increased activity down in this area.
So we'll watch to see if we have anything trying
to develop as we head into next week.
Of course, we're going to keep you updated right here
