Pavel Sokov's (Russia-Canada 1990) work can be described as impressionistic realism. Specializing in oil painting, he began at the age of 7 and started selling commission portraits at 17. When he was 24 years old, Sokov was approached by Time Magazine to paint the cover of the Time's illustrious Person of the Year edition. Pavel Sokov's work has been featured in many publications and has won several awards, including ARC Salon's Best in Show 25,000$ award, a Bahrain Golden Visa for exceptional talent granted by the Crown Prince of Bahrain, Circle Foundation's Artist of the Year Award, Oil Painters of America's President's Award of Excellence, NOAPS' Best Figure Painting Award, NOAP's Best of Show award and many others. Through working with Time Magazine, the Bahrain Royal Family, United Arab Emirates Royal Family, Saudi Arabian Royal Family, and well known entrepreneurs, his work is found in collections across the world.Born in Moscow, and having immigrated to Montreal at the age of 10, Pavel Sokov discovered early in life his two passions: Science and Art. Cutting-edge scientific ideas from Science Fiction authors, Stanisław Lem and Isaac Asimov were the main inspiration for Sokov's earlier artistic endeavors. Over time Pavel transitioned to realistic portraiture, his current focus, after attending Watts Atelier in California. Working with live models at the atelier motivated Pavel to focus on authentic storytelling. He channeled this desire by travelling all over the world with his art supplies in hand. He is fascinated by the narratives, textures, traditions and people he encountered throughout his many travels, which birthed his series "Stories of the World". Most recently, Sokov spent 2 months in the Omo Valley of Ethiopia, staying with 8 different tribes. This adventure has birthed Sokov's current project "The Stories of the Tribes of Ethiopia".
