After my last SSD turned out to be a fake Samsung 990 Pro, I bought a brand-new Lexar NM790 1TB and put it in the same UGREEN 40Gbps USB4 enclosure to add fast external storage to my MacBook Pro. First I fix a mistake from the last video: the "double tape" in the enclosure is actually a silicone thermal pad (thanks to the viewer who pointed it out). Then I unbox the Lexar, install it, format it as APFS and ask Claude Code to check whether it's genuine. The PCI vendor ID belongs to Longsys, Lexar's parent company, the firmware is a real NM790 release, the capacity is exactly 1TB and it has 0 power-on hours, so Claude says it looks genuine and brand new. In the enclosure it wrote at 2.77GB/s and read at 3.12GB/s, which is most likely the enclosure's limit, not the drive's. I didn't run a full-capacity fill test. My advice: buy new, from big sellers.
