This makes the Jays absolutely terrifying.
And as we approach opening day now, just a few days away,
not only have the Jays made multiple moves,
including a couple of very crucial moves
as they finalized the roster for opening day,
but there was a pitcher yesterday named Dylan Cease,
who is not only dominating throughout spring training,
but there is something that fans aren't talking about enough
that changes the outlook for how this Jays rotation looks,
and specifically a change that Dylan Cease has made
that absolutely has the MLB terrified.
We're going to break down this new update
and discuss what it means going forward
and why people aren't talking about it enough,
as well as the recent moves
and what their moves are going forward
as things are picking up very quickly
and it's going to be a crazy next few days for this team.
You're going to want to stay tuned
to the very end of the video.
There's a ton to go over today,
but before we get into it,
a very quick reminder to hit that subscribe button, folks.
Just one more week, really not even a week,
just get through the weekdays today,
and then tomorrow, a couple more days,
and here we are, opening days around the corner.
If you're enjoying the Daily Jays content,
make sure to hit that subscribe button
and again Friday opening day which is crazy and let's start
with the moves and we're going to dive into Dylan
Cease here in a moment you're going to want to
stay tuned for it it's very notable but let's start
with this so John Schneider says that
Yeriel Rodriguez, Jorge Alcala
and Rule 5 pick Angel Bastardo have been informed that they did
not make the team the Blue Jays still finalizing
other decisions now let's start with this so
Yeriel Rodriguez of course I had a video yesterday Case Lee seems
to be the guy we'll break him down
now we'll break him down recently.
But of course, a couple of days ago, the Jays made
the big moves of letting Connor Seabold go.
And then people started to think about, OK,
is it going to be Angel Bastardo?
There was rumblings about him. It's not going to be him
either. It's not going to be Yeriel Rodriguez, who,
again, recently got DFA, looked OK in the WBC at
times, broke a little bit this spring training with the Jays.
He ultimately is not going to be
on the team. He's not making the team.
It is what it is. Now, who are they going to be picking
going forward that's the big question
because we do know that Tommy Nance made the team John
Schneider confirmed the sports net
that reliever Tommy Nance has made the team there's still one
bullpen spot open which means
because there's one bullpen spot open that you assume Braden Fisher
is on the team because you can see you count
six Hoffman Rogers Varland Little Flaherty Nance
add Fisher that leaves one other spot to make it eight
who is that going to be John Schneider saying
that it's coming down to the wire a little bit
and for the bullpen it's probably going to be
Chase Lee right if you've been following
the channel here a little bit there's a lot of guys
who are available to actually make uh i mean there
were a lot of guys now it's kind of down
to Chase Lee's been absolutely dominant it could
be maybe an Adam Mako if they want to go with a
lefty someone who's not here is obviously have two lefties right
and Brendan Little Mason Flaherty
so you should be fine but it's gonna come down to the wire
and it's probably going to be Chase
Lee in the bullpen side but on the uh
on the position player side the Blue Jays are still
deciding their final roster spots John Schneider
said two rule five picks and Leo Jimenez out of
options asset management is definitely a part of it
and how does each decision affect someone else
the depth of the organization
and the 40-man roster now there could be a world where again
Mitch Bannin covered it the other day Carlos Mendoza
who joined the Jays from the Tigers system
they could pick him up and he could be a fantastic option
but regardless it's going to be a crazy
crazy next few days next few hours reports came out initially
that sunday was supposed to be the
day where they finalized all the roster decisions they did some
of them but to keep everybody
grounded mitch bannon did tweet that there's going
to be a lot of blue jays opening day roster
discourse over the next few days
but a reminder none of the six pitchers the Blue Jays used in
opening day last year were on the postseason
roster three weren't even in the org now last
year was a little bit uncanny
in that front Jacob Burns Richard Lovelady pitched game three I think
of the year when Max Scherzer pitched whatever it
was game four I think it was three at the end of
the day folks there's gonna be a lot of discourse hate online about
who makes a team whatnot it's
probably not gonna make a huge deal like it's an ongoing thing
but it is a really fun conversation
to talk about but i want to shift the conversation now to dylan sees
but before we do let's look
really quick at uh at an update surrounding trey
savage now obviously talking about the starter
stuff savage is expected to start a game
on wednesday where he bieber and barrios are going
to continue the work at the pdc
and will likely join the jays for opening day festivities the
reason this is super important now is one fantastic news
that he's uh you know expected to start a
game but b there is pressure right now on the uh on the bullpen
and on the starting rotation
specifically with Trey Savage being out to start the year
and you look at some of the standouts you
see Pons you see Scherzer Brendan Little randomly zero ERA
and six innings Ershel Berger all
everybody's been insane not on this list
is Dylan Cease now in the intro i talked about how fans
aren't talking about a couple things enough let's quickly dive
into how he looked yesterday and he
wrapped up a five inning shutout appearance where he showcased
his new change up and it performed
well he generated 15 whiffs on the on the day
or generated sorry 15 i think changeups in the day
and looks ready to roll for the regular season
now he recently came out in a podcast talking
about how he has a new change up he's been working
with Pete Walker a new arm not delivery but like
looking away from the catcher
or something crazy he is and feel free to search it up if you want
to you know find what exactly we talked about
but Dylan Cease is going to not only surprise people
but the key to this team is the starting rotation
and it can be the bats it can be all that if you
don't have good starting rotation you're going
to be in rough shape but Dylan Cease came out and
said and was asked about is he pleased
with the spring training even my last year he had a bit
of a down year he said honestly I'm
in an even better spot than I was expecting I like where
I'm at mechanically I'm mixing in change-ups
and throwing a bunch of different pitches for strikes
I like where I'm at this is incredible news out
of all the positives we could have gotten outside
of of course some rough injuries you would want
your ace the guy you just paid seven years you
know a ton of money to yes people are going
to talk about how it's just spring training you're
not always going up against MLB hitters and vice versa,
not always going up against MLB pitchers.
None of that really, you know, is, I mean, it's relevant, of course,
but Dylan Cease is focusing on his mechanics.
And if you're into advanced analytics,
you can feel free to pause and zoom
in or go to TJ stats on Twitter to see
the tweet. His stuff looks amazing. He looked amazing yesterday.
The Jays looked amazing yesterday. I mean, we saw Kazuma Okamoto,
you know, what was it? A force out ground ball, 110.5 miles an hour.
He looks insane. He's handling high velocity,
But you have Dylan Cease out here throwing a new changeup,
which is newly developed, at least when it comes to him.
I think he's thrown a changeup in the past, like briefly,
but he's actually going to use it now in his arsenal.
He's coming off of a down year where the Jays were able to,
obviously, some people touted this is like the worst signing of the offseason.
Insane, right?
He finished with 168 pitches last year, or innings, sorry.
Imagine, 168 pitches.
That would be nothing.
But 4.55 ERA.
Whip was pretty good.
He underperformed, ultimately, his advanced analytics.
You add a changeup to the mix.
You add his confidence to the mix.
You add the bullpen, not the bullpen,
the pitching coaches, all these different things
that they developed from, I mean, the ground up,
of course, but also coming off of last
year, you have Max Scherzer in there.
It's terrifying.
And this team looks really, really good.
And I don't want to get too hyped yet.
We're going to have tons of videos to be excited.
But like yesterday, we saw Vladdy go yard.
We saw George Springer go yard.
They're hitting the life out of the ball.
Barrios has a 1200 OPS this spring.
Jesus Sanchez looks really good.
Barrios looks insane hitting lefties.
The team looks so good.
Okamoto looks incredible.
Again, it's spring training.
You want to kind of keep your expectations somewhat tame,
even though they did win the Grapefruit League last year,
which they're not going to win this year,
but the Cup and they ultimately almost won the World Series.
This is going to be an unbelievable season,
I truly believe, for the Jays.
But people aren't talking about Dylan Cease enough.
And yes, we talked about Kazuma Okamoto, all these guys.
Dylan Cease is going to be starting game two.
He is going to be absolutely dominant.
I truly believe he's going to have an insane season.
This is a Cy Young caliber pitcher that some people,
especially outside the Blue Jays fandom,
kind of just grazed over saying they paid too much
because he had a couple of inconsistent years.
He's changed his mechanics around.
You can see here, again, mechanically,
he feels better and different.
You have your change up,
you kind of a wipe out pitch now,
something that he added on top of his 99 mile per hour fastball.
The MLB should be horrified.
They will be.
And this Jays team, they're ready to go.
Let me know down below who you want to see out of the final.
You know, roster spot, do you want to see Chase Lee?
Do you want to see Carlos Mendoza?
Who do you want?
Thank you guys for watching.
We'll see you later.
Cheers.
