Big story, 5:30 right now,
two 18-year-olds accused in a group attack outside Harmony High School
faced a judge today. Investigators say the victim
was beaten after stepping in to stop a bully.
Fox 35's Alexis Clevenger, live in Osceola County now. Alexis,
the judge granting bond for both of these teens?
Yeah, Jack, so they won't have to stay behind bars,
but they will have to stay away from the
victims in this case and the other teens that are charged.
They are also not allowed to return
to Harmony High School. You've been arrested
on a warrant for which a court has already found
probable cause. That was the judge speaking
to 18-year-old Brian Alexander Ramirez. He's one
of two men in court today accused
of attacking another student outside Harmony High School.
The other is Quinnell Antonio Reyes-Cintron,
whose attorney argued the arrest report doesn't
establish that his client actually hit the victim.
There's no such indication in here that
he even touched the alleged victim.
The affidavit itself merely states that he is depicted on
several videos. It does not say that he's depicted
on several videos coming into contact with any
person in the video.
But the judge declined to reconsider probable cause, saying the defense
could file a motion to dismiss.
Both cases stem from an October 16th attack that investigators
say left a student needing 11 stitches.
Deputies say the victim stepped in after seeing students
throwing carrots at a girl during lunch.
He tried to walk away with her, but investigators say
nine students later attacked him near a tunnel outside the school.
Cell phone video helped
investigators identify the suspects.
In a statement, Osceola County Sheriff Chris Blackman
warned students throughout the county
that violence would have consequences, saying,
quote, if you put your hands on another student on or off campus,
deputies will arrest you.
Now seven other students are facing charges.
They are all minors and they were taken
to the Juvenile Assessment Center.
