AI GeneratedPlayers and staff from the Brewers discuss their preparations and mindsets heading into Game 1 of the World Series against the Rays. The conversation covers pitching strategies, the emotional impact of fandom, personal development from \"throwers\" to \"pitchers,\" and the team's philosophy on winning.
Yeah, but, I mean, right now all I'm thinking about
is game one, you know?
For me, like, this is the spot we want to be in,
and, you know, we're lucky enough to be here
and have the opportunity with everything
that might happen or could happen.
So, for right now, I could care less about all that stuff.
Go to Adam, right side of the middle row.
Jacob, in the last week or so,
as you've analyzed your first two postseason starts,
without giving away a game plan for game one,
What have you learned about the way that these two great offenses,
great lineups approached you and what might have to change
or what doesn't change going into the Rays?
Yeah, I mean, I don't think there's much at all that needs to change.
You know, obviously the Padres and Dodgers both had a good approach
of just fouling stuff off.
You know, I bet the Tampa Bay is going
to do pretty much the same thing,
you know.
So, I mean, I think I just got to stick
to my strengths and pound the zone.
go to the third row on the right.
Miz, I don't know if you saw it or not,
after the win in Los Angeles the other night,
I interviewed a young fan with cerebral palsy,
literally cannot walk, and he was overcome with joy.
And I said, who are your favorite players?
And he said, Jackson, Churio, and the Miz.
And I'm just wondering, whether you've seen it or not,
do you give yourself time to think about
the effect you have on these fans
and the joy you bring to a young 13-year-old kid
who can't play the game ever but is so happy for you
that you're going to the World Series?
um uh yeah i mean i did i saw the video no uh
it's honestly incredible just having that
effect on people
so no i mean i really don't have words for it you know it just
it's okay i didn't it's cool yeah i mean i don't know how
to answer that one you know there's a
it's an honor to be in that spot in that situation
to have that effect on a fan and someone of you
know just anyone so it's it's cool it's really
cool we'll come down here to the twin strikers
you must be so excited to start game one of the world series
and everyone knows how big of a
pokemon fan you are so what pokemon energy
are you bringing to the mound on game one oh you
definitely flame definitely
the flame energy you know gonna bring uh what's charizard's signature
move i think it's fireball you know kind of bring some fireballs
so i'll be ready go up to mark on
the far right. You faced the Rays in that series here
the second series of the season their lineup
changed a little bit what do you see as the what
or who do you see as the biggest challenges in
that lineup if you've done your research for this start?
Honestly I mean you know it's the normal
suspects you got Diaz you got Camero
and Simpson I mean all those guys I mean there's obviously
more to go in that lineup
but I mean those are the big three that everyone talks about and you
know those are the guys you have to look after
so you know obviously I believe Diaz got me early
in the year and you know change
a little bit you know don't change much you know if he hits another
one congrats you know that's it's baseball go all
the way up in the right hand corner at the Jordan
Jacob can you talk about your relationship
with Logan Henderson what it's been like to be teammates
some of the minors and you guys kind of leading
the rotation this year yeah um yeah it's wild
it's wild the fact that we're both you know our second year
and being the one two for the team
is, it's incredible. No, Hendy's been
an absolute legend through the minors, and he's
amazing. What a wonderful guy he is. There's a lot to be said
about him, but no, it's cool to see the growth that he's
had with all of his pitches,
especially that changeup, so it's really cool
to build off that. Go to Kurt in the fourth row.
Hey Miz, when you think about
these last two playoff outings, where your stuff has been,
where the execution is, where you feel
physically how would you assess where you're
at where you were at in those those couple of outings
yeah i mean i feel good you know i feel like uh
the first one might have been a little
under what i expected
but the second one was pretty much right where i wanted to be
um no i mean i think i just i finally figured it out
in game two of not getting off my end goal
and doing what i need to do to succeed
and not trying to play their game so i think i need to
do more of that go to the fourth row on the far right hey Miz
when you look at people say oh he's
a thrower not a pitcher and vice versa you've heard all
the cliches for somebody with your velo
how would you describe your development from Crowder
to you know coming into the organization
to where you are now yeah i mean i definitely
was a thrower you know in college high school all that
you know that was the goal to throw it as hard as you can
but um no with the with the guys here
You know, everyone in the pitching lab,
they've really helped me go a long way
and take that next step to be a pitcher and not just a thrower.
So, I mean, I joke around saying middle, middle, and pray,
but that is a big key for me in the fact of just not walking guys.
Like, you know, making guys respect me and respect me in the zone
is definitely huge for my improvement.
We'll stay there with Jesse.
Brandon Woodruff's talked so much about, like, your work ethic.
I'm wondering if you could kind of reverse it.
What have you seen out of him trying to get to this point?
It would be a big boost in that room if he was on the roster.
What can you say about Brandon?
Yeah, I mean, Big Wu is an awesome human being.
He's in there every day working.
If that's just, you know, at the beginning
when he was unknown what was going to happen,
it was tough to watch.
And then you still see this dude day
in and day out doing his thing, trying to get back.
no it's it's really cool to have a guy like that just grinding
and pushing so hard to
have a chance at being being with us
so it's it's amazing but bradford down here on the left
jake uh 1982 before your time mike caldwell started game one
of the world series for the
brewers tomorrow night you will be the second guy
in franchise history to start game one of
a world series have you allowed yourself
to just think what it means to start a world series like
that no it's just another game you know uh it's it's honestly
an honor to be in that situation
and be able to you know go out and try
and propel the team to a win so um no it's it's awesome it's
awesome to be considered as game one starter
so you know can't look too deep into it right now
you know off season then we can start thinking about it jake will
do two more standing up on
the right side in the front hey Jacob how you
doing congratulations on your start tomorrow I
wanted to ask you you grew up a Kansas City Royals fan I assume you
were watching with close attention
in 2014 and 2015 when they went
to the World Series back-to-back years does this Brewers team
remind you at all of those teams
from the mid-2010s how they kind of reinvented the way
teams were trying to find success in the league yeah
of course yeah no I mean pretty similar in
you know ideas so it's it's cool
that you know you don't have to be the team to hit
170 home runs a game
or whatever you know it's you can win a baseball game so many different
ways and i think that's
also the you know caveat of baseball is there's no one way to
win a baseball game you know you can win it
by stealing three bags you can win it by hitting
one home run you know it's it's all different take one last one up
in the fifth row in the middle
Hey, Jacob. Pat Murphy famously gives out nicknames for his players.
I'm curious to know what your nickname is,
and then on a more serious note,
how he's allowed you to grow and mature as a player and a person.
Yeah, I mean, as he was walking out, he called me Forrest Gump,
so that's a pretty common one he's been giving me.
No, I mean, it's funny, and yeah, he's been awesome.
Obviously, second year in the league, so I'm still fresh to all this
and have no idea what the hell's going on, sorry.
But, no, he's, you know, if I ever have any questions, you know,
that's the first guy I'm going to asking anything.
He doesn't care.
He might give me a stupid answer and I might give a stupid question.
So it's a back and forth and it's a lot of fun.
All right, Jacob, thanks.
We'll see you tomorrow.
