I found this old nightstand on the side of the road
and it was free and it's in bad shape.
But I tell you what, I think I have
a perfect project for it. First thing I've got to do
is get those wheels off the bottom.
I don't need it to roll around anymore. I can just take a
screwdriver, take all the screws out.
There was only three on each one and off the wheels come.
Next, I need to move to the doors.
Again, those are just a couple of screws. I use my screw gun
to take it off. I'm going to start with one side
and then go to the other. And then once I get all
screws. I can just pull that thing out
and all the hardware comes out at the same time.
As you can see, it's so bad, but there's a solution.
Before I prime and paint, I'm going
to rough it up. I'm going to go 80 grit.
Don't go any higher, like 100 and 120. Just use the
sander and go back and forth.
As you can see, the color's going to start to change on the top.
We're not looking to get it smooth.
We're roughing it up so the primer has something to get
adhered to and get rid of some of those stains.
I'm going to go with a gray primer because the
paint I'm going to use is also like a gray color.
You can tint your primer. Now, the reason we use
primer is you don't want to just put paint on bare wood.
It'll peel. Primer is that one thing
that allows the paint to stick and adhere to.
Once I let that dry, I'm going to go with a good
quality semi-gloss paint.
You can use a cabinet paint, but I just went ahead and used some wall
paint. Again, it was semi-gloss and it's a really good quality.
Once I put this on, I'm going to
make sure I get two coats and as you can see it looks really nice,
really smooth. Let it dry. Now
I brought it inside and my cat's already
a little curious about what I'm doing but the next step is
to take some hot glue. I turn this upside down
and I'm going to put some little rags that I got and
I made them into like little curtains.
Be careful you don't burn yourself with the glue. Let that
sit on there for about a minute and then I can turn it back over.
Take a little ribbon and I'm
going to tie a nice bow with it.
It's going to look really cute on both sides. Then I'm going to take
some pictures that I printed up, some tape,
double-sided, put it right on the sides there.
And then I went to my 3D printer and I printed these wall sconces.
They look really cool. Again,
just a little bit of hot glue on one side, put it also on the other.
I think it looks awesome
how it turned out. Put it in place.
And then I'm going to put a little blanket, a little carpet
piece on the bottom. The cats are already, again,
curious about what I'm doing and they love it.
They just went inside. I think this will make the nice,
perfect cat bed. That tells me that
Anytime I want to take a piece of furniture
and upcycle, it's easy to do.
