AI Generated·May contain errors
happening in the Bay Area. They're going to have
an impact on anyone planning to drive to San
Francisco as well as drivers in the North Bay.
KTVU's Devin Truby is live with the advice
on the detours to take. Devin, good morning.
Good morning, Andre. That advice is going to
be to take public transportation
and get a good look at these detours in advance
as this will be impacting a lot of people during their weekend travel.
Two major closures lasting
the entire weekend. So we're talking about 55 hours
in total for both of these. Let's get into
it. We'll show you the first one.
This is going to impact the westbound lanes of I-80. This is
going to be from 5th to 15th Street.
This all starts Friday night at 11 p.m., extending until
Monday at 6 a.m. Caltrans is advising residents
not to use the Bay Bridge, but rather public
transportation and the other bridges to get into the city.
The work is to complete the concrete on
the freeway decks earlier this year they did
the eastbound side. Oh definitely
avoid the area. If it's work that need to be done
then you know they got to do it.
I appreciate it being done.
The second closure impacts State Route 37 and this
55-hour closure will involve the east
and westbound lanes from Mare Island and
Vallejo to Sears Point.
The median will be taken out so all the flow of traffic
in both directions will be using
the westbound lanes. Now this work is to
prepare for the upcoming El Nino,
where they're going to be raising portions of the road three
feet to address flooding concerns for those big rains and tides.
Now, this all starts 10 p.m.
tonight and goes until Monday at 5
a.m. The suggested alternative route for this one,
if you are westbound, use State Route 121.
Excuse me, if you're eastbound, use State Route 121. If
you are westbound, you're going to do that big loop over the top.
That's 29 to get you to 12,
and then 12 to drop you down to 121 just past the Sonoma Raceway.
So look at public transportation options.
Look at the detours in advance so you can budget the extra time
that you'll most likely need to get around the detours.
But also think about all that residual traffic being pushed on routes
people normally don't take because of these closures.

Devin, thank you.
