WITHOUT PRODUCT REVIEWS, SPONSORS, DONATIONS AND STICKER SALES, I’d have to go back to work and not do ANY videos, because you can’t live without any income.
Hey guys, how you doing? It's Henry.
A local subscriber of mine, Nick from Comac, texted me
about a listing here in East Williston, Long Island.
I'm on my way to my mom's house to cut
down some trees, so I figured I'd stop by and pick it up.
It looks like this. So it's one of those
new Briggs plastic carburetor type machines.
They actually mow very well. I think it's Troybuilt
or Yard Machines, one of those. Anyway, it comes with a bagger.
So now I'm sitting outside telling
the person that i'm here and i just want
their permission to go pick it up i see it right there
on the side of the
house it's a Troy
built it's like new
thank you here i
am at my mom's house
i've already trimmed some trees this was out
of control at one time but i think ideally
i want to trim all these bushes away
so it doesn't cover that part of the house so much
and i'm feeling like because this was wild this thing
was like covering the whole house but i've
trimmed it but i have a feeling i want to get rid
of that tree all together so that you can see the
house better and there's this completely useless tree
that's like curved it's not doing anything
but possibly falling over so i want to cut that tree
so first thing i want to do is cut this tall
tree then chip away at this see how i feel
and then eventually there i don't think i'm going to
be able to get it done all in one day
but i had just come here a couple of days ago to mow the
lawn so that doesn't need to be done
but there's like a ton of bush that i need to get rid of
piled over here and some more wood i'm gonna bring some wood home
because it's good to burn
but this is what i just got it is like i said
a Troy-Bilt TB 110 i've had a few of these this is
nice it's an auto choke look at the look
at the wheels good tread comes with a good bagger this
is a score and it's probably something super simple like
a carburetor clean and i could sell
this for like $175.
It is just a push mower but still excellent condition.
So I'm going to go to
town
on doing some
chainsawing.
One tree.
A thin tree
in my opinion.
Took like all
day. Took like
an hour to cut that tree and to clean it up
because even though it didn't look that big or
that tall the ends of it the bushes and the branches
and stuff the leaves on it created a
whole mound does it look better now without
the tree now i have to think do i want to chop down
this tree because that'll clear up the house
a lot more you can see it better got lots of wood here
lots of wood to bring back
so i can burn it for this uh winter i don't think i can because it's
pretty wet especially this one here is very wet
but at least it'll be good for next season i'm
gonna leave
this stump here
because well i don't
know it holds up all this
---- i'm totally dead
this tree is gone wood is in my truck i decided
to leave this for now i still don't know what to
do with it but this side over here you guys saw
in time lapse it's just tremendous but now i got
rid of huge tree that's hanging over my neighbors i had
to use ratchet straps to pull the tree branch
so it wouldn't fall on their property
and break their pots and stuff like that in their garage
so it went, it slingshotted this way towards me
so i missed everything and i got to cut this up
and clean it up, that's a lot of work just
so much crap i'm so overwhelmed but um starting to look
nice now, it's amazing what trimming bushes can
do, looking real good getting rid of that tree over
there was a good idea, i'm dead, i'm going back home now
and we'll uh fiddle with that mower tomorrow
All right, good morning.
It's another beautiful day here in Huntington, Long Island.
And I'm going to unload all my wood into the garbage can
and bring it to the back and stack them against a wall.
We'll shoot this Troy-Bilt that we got.
That's right, free. I have a feeling it's going
to be super easy to fix that thing.
Probably just a dirty carb.
Watch, whenever I say that, what happens?
why why won't it start, excellent condition
super clean, good tire tread on the wheels
excellent bagger, auto choke
no oil residue anywhere i think
this is just your perfect
example of a regular homeowner
who bought the machine left gas in it, carburetors all gummed
up with ethanol and it won't start
so instead of going to get it fixed just throw it away or give
it away and go buy another one, oh mowing your lawn
is so problematic i'm just gonna go hire
some landscapers
that's my wood supply
i don't know if i
could burn more most
of these and most
of that because it's still pretty wet maybe small ones i can
but i really need a log splitter to
split this stuff so it'll dry quicker
and it'll burn easier that pile almost fell on me twice let's go
check out that Troy-Bilt lawnmower we picked up
for free huh changed into some dirty clothes
check the gas it's
completely dry ski check
the oil it's really
overfilled like double
and it smells like gas
very liquidy which means
that the carburetor
is gunked up needle wasn't
seating when you put gas in it gas continuously flows
into the crankcase filling up the oil
reservoir with a mixture of oil
and gas but let's put some gas
in and see if it turns over that's
enough just for testing what
do you think it's an auto choke
will it just start brake lever is a
little
stiff
but they
all where
you can see
there's a ton
of smoke
that flies
out is it
the kind of
smoke of a blown head gasket could be but also
that signs of the oil being so thin watered down
by the gas that it's seeping through
and burning in the combustion chamber so i'm gonna drain the
entire crankcase of its gas oil mix fill it up with fresh oil
and then let's see what happens
because apparently carburetor seems fine would it
start now on the next pull ton of smoke is
coming out definitely don't have any more mosquitoes
so an oil change on these lawn mowers are very
easy the older models had a drain plug on the bottom
but that seemed to be more of a pain in
in the ass these days just tilt it on its side
and pour like 90% of the oil out or in this case
oil gas are you ready let's go see
see how uh watery that is it's
practically gas coming out
i'll get most of the uh liquid out
of there still coming out
and that could be another reason why
it smokes so much because it's like double the amount of fluid in there
so the excess fluid is
going into the oil vent which goes back into the carburetor
so when the carburetor is running
it is burning gas and oil thus the smoke.
Looks like we're getting most of that stuff out. I'll
let it sit there for a bit.
We'll put fresh SAE 30 in there.
At least now you know that the interior
part of the engine block is super clean
because it's been soaked with gasoline so it should be a
very clean block now which is actually good.
I'm going to pour this into a container and dump it
out. Remember, don't be a dick.
Don't pour this in your sewer or a lake or something like that.
Bring it to a Home Depot or a gas station.
They have to take it. By law, at least here in New York.
SAE 30. Temperatures above 32 degrees.
Summer machines. If you have a snowblower, 5W30.
Let it settle for a bit. Top it off in a second.
Got an old Oregon container of bar
and chain lube.
Yep, this is all gas and a little bit of oil.
Stick your
dipstick
in the hole.
That's what she said.
See if the tip is moist.
That's what she said.
Nothing. A little bit.
Put some more.
Oil's dripping down the sides of the reservoir tube,
so it's not a good gauge.
Looks like I necesito mas.
Now it's
good.
Okay, now we're going to start it, let it run for a bit.
there so there's still gonna be oil gas mix
in the carburetor bowl in the fuel line valve area
muffler so it's gonna smoke
but i'm gonna let it run for about five minutes see if the oil
dissipates
and then
it'll be
fixed not
really
doing
anything
and there
you go it's
just that
easy thanks to my friends over at Super Clean
for always providing me super clean products that keep
my equipment super clean i'll leave a link in the description
so as you guys know some small engine
mechanics actually tell you to take out
the spark plug check the air filter all that other jazz
that's completely unnecessary what did i do took it off
my truck after we picked it off the street
put gas in it fired it up saw
the symptoms white smoke just blowing out checking the oil you smelled
gas so you do an oil change to clean out the crank case once
that's all cleaned out two three minutes
of it running the smoke stopped
that was the problem it ran fine didn't hesitate didn't surge
which means the carburetor is clean no need
to clean a carburetor that runs fine didn't even
look at the air filter why
because if the air filter was bad you would hear hesitation and
difficulty running which it doesn't show
those symptoms why change the spark plug or check it
if it runs fine go ahead do all that extra work
for absolutely no reason at all that's it i cleaned
it up it runs great starts stops doesn't smoke anymore
this thing is going to sell for like
175 maybe 150 it's got a great bag it's
in excellent condition we got it for free you
can't argue with free we didn't
do any unnecessary checks spark plug air filter carburetor all that
jazz because the symptoms don't dictate needing to check it
and that's the problem with those
techs over at shops they need to go
by a rule book gotta check check check check check all
these things but if you're a backyard wrencher like me
no i didn't say a mechanic because i'm
not a mechanic i'm a backyard wrencher we saw
the symptoms added new oil the problems went away
and that's all you need if it runs
and starts good that's all you needed to do actually that's
all i needed to do because now i can just turn around
and sell it for money how much did i put
into it i had oil on hand a couple of sprays super clean sponsored
so i'm in it for nothing
Hope you guys enjoyed the video.
